Morning guys! Thank you for tuning in to today's video. It's a longer one so grab a cuppa and some biscuits and settle in 😘 I ran out of characters in my description box for that list of pre-loved brands I mentioned so I'm just going to pop them here for your reference: Shopping pre-loved is the best way to get more for your money. It’s definitely more time consuming and won’t be for everyone but it’s always worth a look. The following brands (additional to the ones featured in today’s video) are good brands to search for when looking for high wool content coats on pre-loved market place sites/apps like Vinted, eBay, Depot etc for a reasonable price: Massimo Dutti Cos John Lewis & Other Stories Me+Em Jigsaw Jaeger Reiss Banana Republic Hobbs Whistles Gerard Darel LK Bennett

I quite recently bought a DAKS Signature coat in a charity shop for £15. It’s in immaculate condition and is 80% wool, 20% alpaca with a 100% viscose lining. It’s in a dark khaki/olive green and has a 10-inch vent. I’m only 5’3 and it’s the perfect length for me. I’m so thrilled with it. As you suggested, secondhand is a great option.

My late mother had many DAKS pieces from skirts to coats back in the 50’s I know when I was born in 65 she still had these and wore them but as I grew up she ‘got rid’ of them somehow 😢😢😭😭👎❤️

@@joanne26 I’d find my coat pretty difficult to date. It looks as good as new and it has no particular style giveaways. If I had to guess I’d say it’s possibly 1990s or 2000s. it sounds like your mum had great taste.

@@pamelaatkinsonscats2873 my mom also had a real black astrakhan cape that she bought herself in the 50’s. I'm so excited that coat season is back! I am a major proponent for thrifting outerwear (and just about anything else, tbh). Recently, I found the most gorgeous oversized vintage coat on Vinted - it's 80% cashmere, 20% wool, with brass buttons, and I got it for only 15 euros! 🤩 And literally yesterday, I also found an incredible wool and cashmere men's blazer in impeccable condition at a local charity shop. I googled the brand, and apparently, similar models retail for around 1300 euros - but I only paid 3!

Hello Emma ! Many thanks for this video, which is very helpful :) Just a note to share that, as a person who started looking at their coats composition back in 2020, and then targeted their purchases with a higher percentage of wool content (from 60% at least), I'm noticing quite the shift with H&M's Premium line. I mean, back then, I was able to get hold of a coat from them that is a wool and cashmere blend (100% natural fibers, no lining) and for around 150euros, without any discount ! Also, their coats used to have a higher percentage of wool content, higher than the 50-55ish % they offer now and for a very much higher price tag. The price range, before, was around 150 to less than 200euros for 60 up to less than 80% wool content. I do agree that Mango offers a very interesting value for money with their coats. Also, I'd recommend checking out Mango Outlet, which is their official Outlet website and provides with their past collections (starting with last year's) items, at discounted prices.

Very informative review. I buy my premium coats secondhand (for obvious reasons!). My best buy ever is a Gerard Darel coat retailing new for about 500£ and I got it for 8£. I bought it in a small shop in Greece where I guess this brand is not really famous and it was next to a Primark coat selling at 8£ as well!

Hi Emma, wow you’re working hard with all these mammoth comparison videos lately 😃. I hate poppers too as I rarely do up a coat so hate seeing them, cheap and nasty. Last year I bought the Mango sort of ‘cocoon’ coat you have in the brown but in a very light beigy colour although I think they said it was light grey, doesn’t look grey at all, love it as I can fit jumpers under it. I wish I could have a few different style and colours of coat but I just don’t wear a coat enough to justify it. I park right outside my office and if I’m going shopping I find a coat too warm so I rarely feel the need for one and if I’m going for a walk I’ll wear my puffer coat. Hope you’re enjoying the warm sunshine, it’s beautiful today, I was in the garden in a vest earlier! 😳 xx

I’m so glad you’ve featured and own the brown Mango, I bought it a few weeks ago but had to majorly size down on it as the sleeves on the medium were way too long. I went in store and tried on the xs and that was a lot better. I just didn’t know if I’d done the right thing with it being unlined but you’ve put my mind to rest. Excellent selection of coats! Personally, I'd recommend avoiding direct ironing on wool at high heat, as it can leave marks and cause a shiny, 'pressed' look from the fibers flattening. Instead, using a pressing cloth, lowering the iron temperature, or opting for a steamer (keeping it at a safe distance) works better to keep the fabric looking fresh and smooth.
@EmmaHill6 сағат бұрын
Yes I agree, I only use a steamer on my coats 👍

Hi Emma. This was another great video ,so informative and showing such a wide range of coats from the high street. I don’t know why, but I much prefer a coat undone than done up! I’m not a huge fan of the ones with a tie belt but that’s just a personal preference. I love the long length of the M&S coat and the colour was rather nice and a bit more unusual. I must admit that last winter, I only wore a winter coat once and lived in my trench but that’s often the case here in Greece! Let’s see this year…… 🧡🍁🎃

I don't know if it's just in Portugal but I absolutely dislike the fact that so many items on H&M's website are quickly out of stock. Many sizes out of stock and I feel that restocks are returns, not full restocks. Even "new items" are out of stock. It's annoying because it's one of my favourite brands but I don't feel like hunting down their website everyday.
@JoR00keСағат бұрын
It’s not just Portugal, I’ve almost given up shopping there as pretty much everything I like when I’m browsing is out of stock and then unless you see their pop up restock notification the second it’s sent and buy it there and then it’s out of stock again before you get chance to go on the website and sometimes even if you can hop on it right away it’s already gone back out of stock anyway! Grrrr 😫 x
@CarmenAlmeida90Сағат бұрын
@@JoR00ke Exactly. I had a restock notification for a trenchcoat. I bought it within 10min and after that it was out of stock again, so I'm sure it was a return, not a restock. We're talking about one of the biggest fashion companies in the world. It shouldn't be constantly out of stock the way it is. I don't understand.

Two years ago in Budapest I accidentally thrifted a coat made by Maura by Claudia Sträter for less than 17 euros! The fabric composition is gorgeous (75% wool, 10% cashmere, 15% polyamide). It's single breasted with three buttons and size 42, so a tad bit too big for me, and I have to wrap it up and use a belt, otherwise it becomes too breezy. And it's fully lined (100% viscose)! Once I move back to a colder climate, I am going to ask the tailor put the insulator inside for even better warmth and maybe up the belt situation. But even with tailorings I can't complain for the price like this

The 🤔 2the, i think, zara coat in the very deep cool brown is gorgeous Both tailoring and color = winning combination 😮😍 ✌🏻🍂 Added: i want to say something about Zara, H&M s from this world. I used to buy much more from fast fashion stores bc I wasn't busy with fast fashion and how it destroys countries & the earth (years before social media so much less aware about it) Then when social media became more of a thing & i started learning more about fabrics etc... i stopped buying there , i still shopped there for when my daughter was born (Hema a Dutch multistore for the essentials and H&M and Zara for the cute things maybe 3 to 4x a year) And undies & socks for us was/is Hema and H&M But everything else preloved & vintage until past spring I was just scrolling at the H&M & saw at the linnen section and for the first time in 16y & for the first time ever i bought 4 linnen pants (they called the "pull up or easy pull up" with a tin drawstring) in beige, deep rich brown , dark kaki and blue/while stripe And bc they are so different in color and print looks (and feels when wearing) completely different from each other. And now they are going to tailor to get the seems done for stronger bc these shops haven't got the best finish But when that's done i have 4 gorgeous and very breathable (100% linnen) trousers and when i take care of them the same why like my more expensive pieces i have them for years to come. So fast fashion or not when taking care of these items the right way...... 💁🏻♀️
