Don't Switch to a Stroller Until You Check For This

Sitting a baby up in a stroller before they're ready presents some significant safety risks. It also leads to a baby who's uncomfortable, which means they're probably not going to enjoy riding in the stroller.
So, when can a baby sit in a stroller?
There are a few things they need to be able to do first. Once they can, you can use a few simple tests to check if they're ready to make the transition to a stroller.
In this video I'll walk you through what those tests are, and how to do them with your little one. This will help you know for sure if they're ready to sit up in the stroller next time you go for a walk.

our daughter grow of her basinet ( and all on the market) before she was ready to sit in a stroller. we let her layingen in the stroller until she was ready, or when she want to sleep in it.

Hi Emma! Thank you for this, may I ask if my baby (3 months old) has good neck strength but isn't sitting up himself yet, is it safe to transition him tp a stroller seat but kept in a flat-ish reclined position? I'm conscious it his bottom is still not lying flat and am unsure of any unintended consequences. Thanks so much

A bit unrelated, but I just wanted to say thankyou for the recommendation of the Oball - it can literally entertain my almost-4-month old for sooo long. She loves holding it and sticking her tongue between the holes 😅 it is so entertaining for her, she loves to play with it when we are going on walks, in the car, or when I am cooking dinner. Also I was wondering if you could do a video about pets and safety please, or just general baby-proofing the house? (Not sure if you have done one already). Thanks 😊

I knew about the slumping but not the tests thankyou. We just put out 4 1/2 month old in a stroller, he’s 99 centile for height and completely outgrown the carry cot

Random question for mom’s out there….. would it be odd if your mother in law decided all on her own to put ur 8 month old in the stroller without the car seat even thu you didn’t tell her to yet? We have two under two and we use the double stroller our youngest has to be in the car seat and now bc she’s introduced him to the front facing sitting in the stroller he always gets fussy when we put him in the car seat stoller. Idk just found really strange she thought this was okay for her to decide to do when I asked her to take him for walk, neither me or my husband said to her ‘hey we aren’t using the car seat in the stroller anymore for him’ and also she walked out older one when he was this age and we didn’t have him out of the car seat til 9 or maybe10 months old, so it’s not like she didn’t know to use the car seat for him. This is just one of many things thu that I felt she’s over stepped her boundaries with 🙈🤷‍♀️🙏

Hi! In this video I go through the signs that a baby is ready for solids:kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnLJn2epba-WptU. In general it's recommended you start solids at 6 months of age. At this age most bubs can sit with with support (rolled up towels in the highchair and foot support). Hope that helps!

Is there one for a high chair ? My baby was slumped for a while to one side at 6 months old in the highchair (despite sitting up at the beginning) but sits up properly now at 1 years old!

To go into a high chair you generally want them to be able to keep their head up (so have good head control) and be able to sit with minimal support. Generally though highchairs are way too big so you always have to add in some rolled up towels at the side for some additional support.

Can an infant car seat that locks into a stroller still be used (with supervision of course!)?

An infant car seat stroller tends to be very supportive and helps a bub sit in the reclined position. So that should be fine. Just look out for the chin resting on the chest.

My newborn has been in a doona stroller since birth, she is a month and a half. Our apt is small and my husband works as and an uber driver which requires him to use the car frequently and we can't leave the carseat in it (we only have one car) we went for the doona since its very compact and it's a stoller and carseat all in one. With that said is that stroller not good for her? She sits up reclined but it's not a bassinet/flat basket type of stroller... (She doesn't really recline to the side because it has a great head insert but now am concerned once I take it out 😢)

If it is a stroller which has a carseat capsule then that is fine for your little one to use. In Australia the recommendation is that baby's do not sleep in these capsules, if a flat firm surface is available. So if you are at home then I would recommend you place her in a cot or bassinet for her sleeps. I hope that helps!

I am big fan of yours and follow your suggestions. My son is 6 months old.He tilt his neck on right side most often.I keep on practicing him tummy time when he was 1 week old. Is it a red flag. What I have to do.

It's hard to say! If he is able to turn his head to both sides (when lying on his back) then it doesn't indicate that he has tight muscles. But if he cannot turn his head in both directions so that his cheeks make contact with the ground then he may have muscle tightness which a paediatric physical therapist will be able to assist with. Either way if you are concerned I would check in with his doctor who can see you in person.

Hi! At this age we would be expecting that they can sit up. Crawling is a skill they can learn anywhere from 8 months to 13 months so still lots of time to learn this skill.

Please don't ever take your kid to a chiropractor. I got severely injured by one in 2017...I should be dead. NY doctor says I'm lucky I'm not paralyzed. Please please dont ever use one on your children.
