Any advice for a 4-year old that's heard almost exclusively "Be careful" and is now struggling with the effects you mentioned?

I still remember those days and im 35. Mom tells me to go to bed, she starts reading a book or watching tv immediately after and my thoughts are, "shes distracted hopefully she forgot." So i just continue to play 😅 Most people forget what its like. I never did.

I don't believe physical punishments are entirely bad (of course they should never ever be severe), if they are performed by a person who truly loves the child, and wants the best for them. There is a difference between punishment, and simply being cruel. Physical punishment can be exactly the consequence that is there in the moment, so that the child can connect it to the behaviour.

Hi emma. Thank you for these videos. What about walking harness? Are they safe to use? Holding baby by the ribcage is a bit difficult on the caregiver's back so i am thinking of getting one.

“You’re probably gonna say yes anyway so just say yes right away.” I finally get it now. I had passed this video so many times because the title and the thumbnail looked strange to me to read together. But the idea is that you don’t train them to tantrum because you bypass the first no, haha I can’t believe it. I somehow have trained my girlfriends and family and nephews and cousins and friends to know that when I say “no thank you” you should then save your energy because I won’t even open my mouth a second time if you start repeating yourself. And I’m 25. But parents can’t avoid training their kids to throw tantrum la any other way besides giving in to their requests immediately?

New parent here! I think that’s not how this technique works though…aren’t you supposed to help the kid process their feelings in the moment? Not “I see you’re upset” but “you are angry/sad/scared because so and so, right?” and I’ve seen how kids respond well to this. In the long run the emotional rollercoasters wrap up quicker because the child better understands what emotions are arising in them. The parent actually needs to be able to recognise the emotion, which makes it so difficult to use in a heated moment (or when you don’t know how to navigate these emotions yourself).

Toddler parenting is the most difficult thing in the world because no matter what IT"S NEVER THEM.. it's always you. What YOU can do better, what YOU can train yourself to do more of, less of, none of. It's the most exhausting journey I've ever encountered. The amount of emotional regulation we have to pull out of our asses, because many of us were never taught that skill, it's astonishing. We have to constantly be better so that they may or may not pick up some of those traits. Can you tell we are in the thick of it? Can you tell that I'm over trying so hard? There's no solution other than do better parents. UGH.

Actually, according to CDC, proper babbling like “bababa”, “dadada” is a 9 month milestone nowadays, but babies should be able to conect some consonants with vocals at 6 months. My baby doesn’t do proper babbling or clear vocals, but occasionally I hear a : “ba”, “ma”, “am”, “bue”, “de”. One of the milestones at 6 months is that they take turns making sounds with you…which my baby doesn’t and I find concerning…he is often irritable for no aparent reason (actually, mostly he wants to be held up) and is not as social..more serious baby. Could it be temperament instead?

thank you, Emma🌹 conversation was especially helpful as i prepared my daughter for naps/bedtime. our routine was feeding, bath, brush teeth, read books, top-off feeding, and lots of cuddles throughout. she knew what to expect next, and this consistent routine helped her settle into a good nite's sleep. i also talked to my daughter ALOT during my pregnancy😄 she was very familiar with my voice by the time she was born. also familiar with the music she heard while still in my womb. Those are really good instructions. They build on the relationship with the child. It also helps prepare children in good time for what is to come. When a child is painting, like in the movie, they can finish what they are doing. You can say: It won't be long before it's time for you to go to bed. You can paint for a moment and then clean up. It helps if the child can complete what they are doing in peace. This makes the next step easier.

7 weeks and he's already mimicking sounds and gestures freakishly well. We are doomed 😂 after sleeping his 6hrs at night, he quietly babbles endlessly to himself until breakfast comes. Same with his random 3am awakening, it's like he's telling himself a bedtime story to go back to sleep. I let him be at night unless he calls for me.

My son had open heart surgery at 6 weeks with a month of NICU afterwards. He started sitting at 8 months old with physio etc. He is turning one end of the month and still not crawling. The other mom's advice and their kids achievements do concern me but as long as we educate ourselves and stay positive and patient I know he will do fine.
Haha i think maybe ive been too goofy with my little one when he talks to me and hes expecting something silly now 😅 ah well at least he is showing a lot of interest to try lots of different sounds and gets a good laugh out of it.

It's I'mportant do say yes occasionally, not just because you're gonna give in anyway. You can always delay dinner by 30+ minutes to give your child a treat. Will it throw of the evening, maybe, but its a moment for them to get something they asked for, maybe if they've been especially good that day.

This is brilliant advice. I just recently started a job as an ESL teacher for 3-4 year-olds, they're a little older than toddler age but its still useful to know this stuff to manage their behaviour and get them to listen and follow instructions in effective, gentle ways. For example, the tip about telling them what to do as opposed to saying "don't do that" is surprisingly effective when I use it!
