I go over any plastic pallets with a magic eraser. Not only does it keep my paint from beading up, I can go over the pallets with one to remove any of the obnoxious stains that tend to be part and parcel of using plastic.

i use a superfine sandpaper just because i always have that, i think its the same idea as the magic eraser. to rough up the surface a little bit. some palletes just doing rubbing alcohol will fix it, because alot of plastic processes use oil so that repels the water and paint, even when you cant see it

I started watercolors back in 2016 thanks to Lindsay's videos, and it made me happy to hear you mention her! It's really nice to hear another perspective, though. I've been looking at pigments a bit more lately, mainly because I keep getting paints that wind up being basically the same. 🙄 In general, though, it's not something ive paid as much attention to! Anyway, thank you for another video! I always enjoy watching people test new paints! ❤

I personally don’t mind the beading on a palette, but that glue trick is awesome! I didn’t expect it to work that well that quickly 😮

I bought the 36 set from China for about $40 US. I like it very much., and have been reaching for this set a lot recently. The color is beautiful, lots of single pigments, blends nicely. I am more of a illustrator than transitional watercolorist, it works just fine for me, so far no complaints at all, highly recommended.

These were the first “artist grade” tube paints I got after (chalky, jelly like watercolors) just full of (cement)! I use them with Da Vinci “artist grade” and only a couple like burnt Sienna cracks but re-west easily! Ty for this review!

@@joanasaad915 I just scrub the palette down with it and some clean water. It just makes the surface a little bit rough so that the paint doesn’t bead any more.

I think these are my favorite set , I have these and the neons on one pallet and when I have this the only colors I would trade out is the black for pbk11 and add a colbalt turquoise but even without that they are still my go to palette , for on the go and at home, and I have qor, sennellier, schminke, Daniel smith, and these with the fluorescent ones just is great, there are a lot of times lightfast is not a big deal when I paint for myself and having those bright colors just makes me happy, and you cannot beat 14 colors 5ml tubes for 20$. And they are by far the best neon colors on the watercolor market.
@joymiller9668
@joymiller9668 Жыл бұрын
Idk I always find myself reaching for that colbalt blue more than any of the others, I would at least glue in a little quarter pan and see if you don’t find the same thing happening, i always used ultramarine b4 this palette and now i realize how pretty the colbalt blue is lol, and another thing that I noticed is that you were worried about them cracking, but i haven’t had that problem with these at all, I had a problem with just the very first yellow in the box, it was very runny like honey paints. But ya these were 70$ for 36 and if you want to add neons that’s 20$, so 50 5ml tubes for under $100, for professional grade paint, sign me up, maybe that’s another reason I use them more too, I know I can replace them relatively easy, not that I’d need to very often, they are really packed with pigment and go a very long way.

I got the 36 set, too. But mine is completely different! I got a white and a black, only one purple, and a whole lot of browns and other neutrals. I think it was around $35 on Prime Day in November. Also, the leaflet was completely in Chinese, no English in it anywhere! The pigment names were barely legible in English on the tubes, the printing was so tiny.I think they are good paints, but haven't used them yet, only swatched them.The glue stick non-beading hack is great!

Loved your painting! Yep, palette beading is so annoying. I sometimes brush on some gum arabic, let it dry and wipe it clean. Because watercolors have gum arabic too, it is quite a good transition. On other palettes, I have used resin, which dries very smoothly (but takes a few days to cure). Good to see your take in Paul Rubens -and nice to hear yiur shout-out to Lindsay. She is a Paul Rubens exoert -and a watercolour wizard. Thanks!

Tooth paste ... if you rub over a plastic pallete with an old tooth brush and some tooth paste, then wash it, it stop the paint from pooling, and will possibly help stop the dried paint moving. It also works for staining too.

Have you ever tried Dr Martin pallets? Hope they are still made, I had to mix colors in separate little pots to keep individual colors separately. Working for the textile industry I had to think ahead about color separation for an engraver.

Thank you 😊 💓. Yes the tube paints would be better to use and they do look very vibrant. I have the half pan Paul Rubin but to sit down and just paint with the pans it's harder to do. You don't have enough space to mix and do things that you want to do. The tunes and a palette is the way to go. I have the same brush and I agree it's great for washes and landscapes. It to soft for me also for details. I have to try one of your craftamo brushes one day. I got the snap brushes and I love them. ❤️ I do have one question. When your paints get really low in your palette do you wash the old paint out then refill it or just refill and not worry about the older paint left in it? Thank you again and have a blessed day 🙏! see i dont ever do that tbh. i just use what i need for a particular picture and if i have a particularly good combo i have a staywet palette i put it in. I never thought of doing my paints into a palette like that because i thought they would dry up and be ruined. Also i tend to favor ceramic palettes would that glue trick work for that to?

Regarding the beading in plastic wells, What I do (and actually what I demonstrate in my latest video of the Ragged Robin painting) is using a VERY fine sandpaper pad and buffing it into the well. No more beading

I’ve decided to make my paint choices based on more than just performance and price. I’ve found some great paint brands, offering professional paints at excellent prices that are produced in countries I’d rather support instead of countries like china and Russia where democracy is non existent and the abuse of its citizens (and other nationals) is rife. Personally I would (and should) feel guilty supporting such regimes by buying their products. Particularly when the Chinese mock the intelligence of westerns by giving their products western names like Paul Rubens, Meeden or the Russians use White Knights. Windsor & Newton Cotman paints are now apparently Chinese too and proving to be average quality compared with Roman Szmal Aquarius watercolours, Rosa Gallery Fine Arts watercolours or Daniel Smith. Haven’t tried Holbein yet. Roman Szmal & Rosa are a fraction of the price, BWS mostly 8, strong pigments withs dozens of colour options! Just made huge savings I can put towards quality paper. I implore all artists to have a conscience and vote with your wallets by buying from and supporting countries with democracies.
