What I love about this is that Tennant is a Scotsman from the west coast playing a time lord who has an English accent but is using a fake Scottish accent, and it is a fake accent it's not his actual west coast Scottish accent but has been given a Highland lilt to it rather than the more harsh and guttural west coast sound. He could so easily have just used his own accent for this episode, but he instead went that extra mile, giving us a Scotsman doing a fake Scottish accent. Genius!

Others have already pointed out that David Tennant is from Scotland* - but it's really impressive how he manages to switch between his own Scottish accent (and an exaggerated version of it) and the Doctor's English accent, without skipping a beat.

Fun fact: The actress playing Queen Victoria had appeared In a six-part Classic Who story back in 1967, and had the option to continue on the show as another companion of the Doctor. But she declined he offer, became primarily a movie actress and over 20 years later was nominated for an Oscar.

This is the origin of the Torchwood mystery that would circulate all of Series 2, if you are going to watch Torchwood (which you should as Doctor Who does do a crossover with it) just consider that it’s very much an adult show and that it takes place during series 3 of Doctor Who

Owing to crossovers and potential spoilers, if you do decide to watch Torchwood, it's best to go with the following order: Doctor Who series 2 (many fans use 'season' for the 20th century run, and 'series' for the modern era) Torchwood season 1 Doctor Who series 3 Torchwood season 2 Doctor Who series 4 Torchwood season 3 Doctor Who 2009 specials Season 4 of Torchwood came out the same year as series 6 of Doctor Who, but I don't remember any connection between them, so it doesn't matter so much how you watch them in relation to each other.

"I won't rest until I put that thing's hide upon my wall"!! Couple seconds later, "ahhhh ahhhhhhhhh" as he's being torn apart. Welcome to Doctor Who folks, family-friendly sci-fi. And yes, you should definitely check out Torchwood, one because it stars a certain favorite character of yours and two it's a bit more serous and grounded than Doctor Who (almost too edgy for its own good to be honest but when it's at its best it is some of the best sci-fi drama ever produced). It's also best viewed alongside David Tennants run as the Doctor, during his 3rd season since there's a little crossover between the shows during that era.

As many have told you, David Tennant is Scottish. However, his own Scottish accent isn't quite what he used in this show. Here he used an exaggerated stereotypical Scottish accent, more like an Edinburgh accent in this episode. (Scotland has multiple accents). David's own Scottish accent is from the west coast, similar to Glasgow as he grew up in Paisley, a town south of Glasgow. (Accents in the UK can vary even within a city and also vary by social class.) However, if you watch David in interviews, his accent has become quite light, probably because he's lived in London for many years and his wife is English. If you watch his early work (like Takin' Over the Asylum his first major role filmed when he was only 22) his own accent was heavier then. He doesn't get to use a Scottish accent very often depending on the project. For Doctor Who David was told to do an Estuary English (south English London area accent) as Christopher Eccelston had used his own Mancunian (north English, Manchester) accent and Russell T. Davies didn't want it to be a "tour of the regions". I wish David had been able to use his own Scottish accent as I prefer hearing the variation of regional British accents and they make things more interesting.

You might recognise some of these people if you've seen Game of Thrones. There's Ron Donachie, who played the Winterfell Master at Arms, Ser Rodrik Cassel; there's Jamie Sives, who played Rodrik's son and Nerd Stark's right hand man Jory Cassel; and there's Ian Hanmore, who played the Warlock Pyat Pree when Dany went to Qarth. You only need to look at the recent portait of King Charles to see a certain . . . connection . . . with blood. Amazing they put it out there so openly. You're a Doctor Who industry Emme, these reactions are great fun.

There’s 2 spin off shows for Doctor Who . Torchwood which is more adult oriented . I think it’s worth watching overall but can be a bit hit and miss with some episodes . If you’re going to watch it finish t his season of Doctor Who first before starting season 1 . The second spin off is the Sarah Jane Adventures the main character coming from classic Doctor Who . It’s really more a children’s show if you’re alright with that kind of level of sophistication but some people like me like to see all the tie ins.

On Torchwood, yeah it’s more “adult”, however I would qualify it with this, the first season is like a teen boys version of adult… or what they’d think is mature, sex and violence. It’s has some really awesome episodes and some good story arcs, but it’s kind of a mess as a whole. And others have rightly said that Doctor Who is more kid oriented, I wouldn’t say it’s a kid show, but it plays it more safe and aims to be a show they the whole family can enjoy. It did however start out as a kids show for sure, as that’s how it was even pitched to the BBC, that they could teach history to kids by having the Doctor visit different time periods, that idea eventually faded however as they started doing more emphasis on the fictional side of things and it transformed into what it still is basically today.

I want to say, since everyone always comments this myth, as a Scottish person: while David Tennant is Scottish, that isn't actually his real accent. He does a more Morningside or possibly Highlands accent in this episode, while his real accent is Paisley. There's a video here showing the comparison: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKGcgIF_lqxmb7s It might be difficult for non-Scots to hear the difference, though. It's actually quite interesting, because the accent he uses in this episode is kind of exaggerated and a bit off, which I think might be intentional, since the Doctor is putting it on, after all. You might have recognised the monk leader as the warlock Pyat Pree from Game of Thrones.

You *need* to watch *Torchwood (2006 - 2011).* Doctor Who won't properly make sense without it. Start watching it after the Doctor Who Series 2 finale. Don't delay. There are episodes in Doctor Who Series 3 which are direct continuations of plots from Torchwood. You can watch it alongside Doctor Who Series 3. But make sure to stay about three episodes ahead with Torchwood. I'd suggest watching Torchwood Episodes 1 & 2 (they aired on the same night), then watching the next Doctor Who Christmas Special, then Torchwood Episode 3, then Doctor Who Series 3 Episode 1, then Torchwood Episode 4, and so forth. That way you should've completed Torchwood Series 1, before you reach Doctor Who Series 3 Episode 11. And that is absolutely crucial. Do that, and you shouldn't be spoiled. This is coming from a fan, it genuinely matters that you watch Torchwood Series 1 and Doctor Who Series 3 in that order.

Torchwood is a good show, however, fair warning it does get “dark” and thus might not be for ’gentler hearts’. It also takes a few episodes to find its niche. There’s also some crossover in that you might want to plan to finish S1 of Torchwood before the later part of S3 of Dr. Who. Each Dr. Who spinoff is targeted at a different demographic. The main Dr Who show is designed to be “whole family” entertainment. Sarah Jane Adventures was targeted to younger audiences. Class was meant as YA. Torchwood was the prime time adult one (more violence, sex, swearing, blood & gore, psychological situations, etc., etc.)

@@lucariodash4874 yes it was a spinoff but Douglas henshall in the original as cutter was the best no other season or replacement could come close yes still watchable but without henshall just didn't work without him think he actually made the show and why ratings where so good first couple of seasons.

Small point, Albert (her husband) is dead, If Queen Victoria did get bitten and has a blood disease, it would not affect any of her MANY children, because they were already born. It would have died with her.

Unless of course she scratched or bit them during a full moon and passed on the "infection" that way.

"Torchwood" (the name of the place) is actually "Doctor Who"'s anagram. Also, it's the science lab which shot on the Sycorax ship on Christmas special, under Harriet Jones orders (for which the Doctor issues the 7 words to end her political career). Torchwood is also a spin-off series, starring Captain Jack, more intended for adults, which will tie-in to Doctor Who season 3 finale. Never liked Torchwood very much (except for season 3 which is AMAZING and very sad) so I wouldn't suggest you to watch it. The only thing you'll miss is the reason why a certain event occurs at the beginning of DW S3 finale, but you'll live nicely anyway. There are other cross-overs later in the show, both with Torchwood and Sarah Jane Chronicles (which is another spin-off more kids-oriented this time) and probably for those you would need at least to know who the characters are. Then again, if you wanna watch all 3 series I'm there for it 😁

I personally wouldbt bother with Torchwood or the other spinoff. However, it would help to at least watch the pilot episodes at the right time as they introduce things that will play back into Doctor Who

You don't want to watch Torchwood, until after the end of the second season of Doctor Who, or it won't make sense.

Fair episode. Not much to say. It's good enough of a Werewolf, Queen Victoria and surviving it. The Scottish naturally. Torchwood best to watch around S4 of DW. After S3 ends. 1 because of more Torchwood relevance revealed over time in DW sorry for spoiling that but made sense for context and 2 because characters of Torchwood are relevant to S4 of Doctor Who so by S4 of DW S2 events of Torchwood have happened if that makes sense without saying anything else just prepping and no event spoilers. It is also funny seeing characters in DW in other episodes and going ah in Torchwood your this character. S1&2 of Torchwood are fair even if some rough episodes most if not all are pretty good. They do feel like Doctor Who in many ways but just different cast and lives and whatever happens like with this episode of DW establishing them they are to deal with threats that happen to Earth. Without saying more. But by DW S3 it will get to characters in the show and more to what it will be. By S2 of DW they still build up Torchwood without spoiling anyway. S3 of Torchwood to me was just bad you know the threats but they keep dragging it out and making it really dramatic but I wasn't buying into what they were saying at all and 4 I gave up on. To me it got worse and worse. I watched Torchwood way later like about 2 years ago and having been so far ahead of Doctor Who as hadn't rewatched DW till these reactions on YT by others so I only had memory to go off of when watching Torchwood. I haven't seen Sarah Jane Adventures. Probably little bits but that's it. For Torchwood to me the rough episodes are besides some effects or themes make it have a higher age rating than Doctor Who. The one that does a S3 episode Chibnall and later DW episodes people don't like I think made episodes that stick out of characterisation. Also some Torchwood episodes have relevant similarities to S2 DW episodes you haven't seen yet and seeing the comparable episode first to Torchwood as some I find better in Torchwood so context helps, so it's best to watch it around S3/4 of DW.
