Grant Stewart’s sound is to hear molten gold - those clean cascades of notes simply make you want to live right. ...and what he does on tenor sax, Lucy Yeghiazaryan *flawlessly* achieves with her voice.

Okay, found the full set after getting waylaid by the single song post to U. of Tube grooving in and around Robbin's Nest. (Love the nod to vintage radio, ephemeral yet living on in memory or created\shared air time outta times in this here disorienting Week 50 of Pandemic at Emmet & Kyle's joint. What a delicious stew of comfort muses in those first two instrumentals fore the appearance of Ms Yeghiazaryan. That tenor tone by Grant Stewart tasty in excelsis deo. Truly astonishing this is a first actual meeting after Emmet's after hours visit to a place she'd been singing at. As good a story as Armenians on 8th Avenue, that wondrous various artists CD collection (in Armenian language yet paying homage to the hippest midtown after-hours joint of the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's where the Muse Chasers of and off Broadway went to unwind. Lenny B.'s cave to hang after shagging the stiffs of classical) had the pleasure of reviewing in Dirty Linen Magazine back in the days of news print and regional arts 'zines............ Hope this scene from Emmet and Kyle's cave keeps cooking cuz as others here have noted, it sure has helped make the Global Lockdown Quarantine less maddening and as socially warm as is permitted given the new rules for keeping the flame of life flickering....Also much thanks to Meira for tracking down the muses, titles, composers and jazz adio arts lore...........Back to the eternal Purple Grotto back when Bay Area was affordable to workin' stiffs.... Health and balance Keep on doing Year 3 here we comes.......and we're the lucky ones..... Robbin's Nest has two set of lyrics. One Ella Fitzgerald record in the 1940's and another set on the 1963 album "Ella and Basie" which wasn't known until the tune (bonus takes) was released as a bonus track in 1997 by Verve.

...discovered this gorgeous tune was written by saxman Illinois Jaquet & pianist ‘Sir’ Charles Thompson, in honor of radio broadcaster Fred Robbins - (namesake of the Robbins Nest radio show🎙). his reputation in jazz world also led Strayhorn to write ‘Snibor’ in his honor - think: Robbins backwards).
@Meira_A3 жыл бұрын
& Illinois Jacquet was equally legendary in his activism - fueling the desegregation of local performance venues, in collab w/ Norman Granz...to love the story is to love the music 🌎💋🎼
