Everyone was so sure of themselves when identifying with a group, and very articulate at explaining things. I feel my generation (26 yr olds) are so socially awkward and worried about not assimilating into a group. We are also very sensitive about judgments compared to those here. I enjoyed the video very much!

Great era. When the world started improving. Doesnt matter what they thought too much, just that they were thinking was good. Love the music of that era too, Dave Van Ronk, Barbara Dane, all good

What month was this filmed and where? I lived in London in 1963-4 and don't remember the hair being that long.

marvy118 - The film was released in 1965, so the date is probably correct. The musicians are from the Downliners Sect.

Love seeing British ‘beatniks’ - these guys are proto hippies, though. They take inspiration from US folk music, but they’re also influenced by progressive thinking from Europe, I’d bet. The fashions are amazing, the haircuts are great.

look at Teddy boys in Britain from several years earlier. They had long hair but they greased it and combed it back. In the USA short hair , the crew cut, was fashionable until much later .
