I have been going through all your videos over the past few months and I must say that you're one of my favourite people on KZbin, not just for your content but for your bubbly, honest personality. It really is refreshing to hear/see on here, and I appreciate everything you put into these videos, even if I do end up craving whatever you're eating by the end of each video! It makes me want to be more adventurous with my food, as I always thought of myself as the adventurous gastronomic type! Thank you again, keep it up!

I was born in Sitka, Alaska and I still have family in Anchorage and Juneau. My mom always tells me that when I was little my favorite food was whale blubber and berries. I was also very fascinated by the stink heads but I never tried them. I have grown out of my liking of fish but I still love it whenever my dad goes on hunting and fishing trips back in Alaska and brings home Alaskan salmon to smoke. Doesn't get any better than that!!

Never been to Alaska, but brother-in-law goes for a couple of weeks every year to fish. He has his catch cleaned, filleted, vacuum sealed, and flash frozen to be shipped back home. I'm grateful that he shares salmon and halibut with me. Much tastier than store-bought! ;-)

Your food-describing vocabulary is amazing! You would make a wonderful judge somewhere like on the Food Network (who I can't tell you how many times I've heard them simply describe their dishes as "it has a rich flavor." A rich flavor of what?! I must know!) XD

Love your videos, Emmy. They always make me hungry. Lol. I grew up in Alaska and remember Sailor Boy Pilot Bread so well!! We ALWAYS had it around the house. Never knew when we'd be going camping or fishing and pilot bread is a staple food for camping and fishing because it's so portable and if it gets a little damp, it's still good. The only thing I wish you would've had in your package is Native Alaskan foods. Muktuk is a popular one. It's whale blubber, usually eaten slightly frozen, but uncooked. They also had what the white people called Eskimo ice cream. It consisted of seal oil, (rendered seal fat) whipped to a froth and whitish, then fresh wild blueberries are added, along with a little sugar or birch syrup. Unless the people were living on the tundra where no trees grow. Trees don't grow in perma-frost. Then they would use just the sweetness from the blueberries alone. There are more native Alaskan foods,of course, but that's all I can think of right now. They dried EVERYTHING so they could sustain themselves throughout the cold, harsh winters of the far north. They ate a high fat diet, high in energy too. Of course they didn't have to worry about getting obese, they were always working it off, hunting and gathering and fishing takes care of that. Of course this was way back before non-natives were everywhere throughout the state, and before global warming too.

Glad you got items MADE IN ALASKA from an Alaska resident. I made the mistake of buying Smoked Salmon and candies from tourist shops when I went on a cruise to Juneau, Ketchikan, & Sitka. Sad to come home and realize the salmon was not packaged in Alaska, and the taffy I bought was from Vermont! I knew about the Made in Alaska stickers and stayed away from the Made in China products being sold at the tourist shops, but I didn't read the labels on the food. I hope to do another Alaska cruise again and I will know better this time around.

Pilot bread is my jam. It is a quick base type carb for many snacks and quick on the go lunch/breakfast meals for Alaskan. It's basically what we use to eat our homemade jam or butter and we have it with tea most of the time. You can even fry it and put cooked egg and spam lol. My favorite way to eat it is with a spreadable cheese like cream cheese and smoked salmon or as a quick lunch with Chicken salad on top.

Haha! Modern Dwellers chocolate is not for everyone. It's good quality chocolate but, sometimes very, very rich much like the concept of smoke salmon chocolate. Also, chinook is pronounced like shh-in-nook lol not the typical "ch" sound but that's okay lol, it was cute how you said it. And, pilot bread is like a staple throughout Alaska, we put whatever on it for sure! lol I'm glad it seems like you enjoyed most of the Alaska themed foods.

Yea! Glad most of it was yummy. Choc and salmon - I was too chicken to try it myself. Brave soul you are. I hope other Alaskans send you interesting snacks. Thanks Emmy!
