I'm from Vietnamese and now study abroad in Germany; I love your channel for years and I'm so glad about this video, it's really fun to see a foreigner taste Vietnamese food. I believe the snacks and sweet you have in the video were sent from northern Vietnam, and I'm from the South so we have a lot of other good stuff there too. Maybe next time when I go back to Vietnam I'd send you something more to try out :D Love from Vietnam/Germany ~

I lived in Vietnam for 5 months and it was no doubt the best time of my life so far. Country, cousine, people, the chaotic traffic... Hard to think of anything I did not love there. I think my favorite treat was Ice cream with green sticky rice flavor. I am german, so I had never even heard of green rice before, but the flavor was wonderful. I'll remember to check some of the food in this video out, I am pretty sure you can get a lot of it in Germany. Especially in the Dong Xuan centre in Berlin. Basically 3 huuuge warehouses with hundreds of vietnamese shops and restaurants inside. Great place to visit, it's always almost like being in Asia again :-D

morbvsclz oh i think i know that flavour, it's called hương cốm, which is immature rice that they add pandan for the wonderful smell and colour, so they call it green rice

that shredded pork stuff is awesome. it's basically like a pork jerky that seems like itd be really dry but when you put it in your mouth it moistens up and has a really strong flavor. i remember when I was a kid they sold this shredded beef jerky that came in what looked like a chewing tobacco can that was basically the same thing.

I love ruốc or chà bông. I hear most of the Vietnamese people around here refer to it chà bông rather than ruốc. I think it has to do with a dialect thing? In the South they call it chà bông and in the North they call it ruốc. Khô bò aka Vietnamese beef jerky is also really good. Should try mực khô. Which is dried shredded squid. It has a very strong fishy smell though and tends to linger for a long time. It's can also be heavily spiced or spicy. Sometimes I get out some sriracha as a dipping sauce. XD
@pokefesterJr10 жыл бұрын
Yeah I believe it's a dialect thing since my family is from Hanoi and growing up, my family has always referred to it as ruoc but I've heard family friends who grew up in the south call it chà bông

Hi Emmy, The brick looking biscuit thing you had, are usually parts of field rations. They say it keep you full for a long time if you eat it and then drink lots of water. Usually used when they're on a journey or mission of some sort.

Are you going to make part two to taste the rest of packet? The one you say that looks like an energy bar is "lương khô" and is translated as "dry food". The dry strawberries cover with sugar are called in Vietnam as "mứt dâu" (strawberry jam). The Mung bean cake is really good and is better when eat with green tea (eat in traditional way).

If you get the chance you should really go back there. It's a really great experience to go back, especially if you have family that still lives there. The culture there is really interesting, there'll be BEAUTIFUL countrysides and mountains as well as VERY busy and crowded cities. It's helpful if you can speak and/or read Vietnamese as some Vietnamese merchants will try to rip you off as they can tell your a foreigner if you do not speak Vietnamese but overall great experience!
@Flastew10 жыл бұрын
That was a cool variety and you still can not hide how you feel about something you taste. We can tell pretty quickly by your reaction in your face as to how much you like it. Thanks Emmy that was fun as well as the ending.

Oh Emmy I wish with all my might that one day someone will be able to send you a nice selection of Taiwanese treats! I won't be going back in a while and I have no access to the treats I have in mind, but there are an array of snacks that are more common in Taiwan than in China (like convenience store snacks) that I'd love to see you try!. Many traditional sweets that don't have a long shelf life will overlap with China, but there are snacks like crunchy curly pea snacks, cheese flavored lays that tastes nothing like any other cheese flavored chip I've had anywhere else, and very specifically Taiwanese instant noodles! (Though once customs took it out of a box my mom mailed to me cuz there was beef in it, but it's cooked beef! It was unfair. Those instant noodles are amazing.)

The first cake is basically a moon cake imo. I love that stuff. I like freezing it and cutting it in small pieces to eat as dessert. It's really rich and sweet though, so I try not to eat that much! I love the shredded pork on rice porridge. I used to also put them on toast with cream cheese when I was a kid too. Mung bean cakes are super nostalgic to me, too. So many yummy snacks. Mmmmmmm !!😋
