Album: " Dolly Parton - My Blue Ridge Mountain Boy"
Utgitt: 1969
Låtskriver: Dolly Parton
Dolly! was an American variety show starring Dolly Parton that aired in first-run syndication during the 1976-77 season.
In the mid-1970s, Parton was approached by Bill Graham, president of Show Biz, Inc., the same company that produced The Porter Wagoner Show (on which Parton had costarred for seven years), and soon afterward the syndicated variety show Dolly was born.
The show boasted a budget of $85,000 per episode, an impressive sum at the time for a syndicated series. (It was, in fact the most expensive show to be produced out of Nashville to that point.) A variety of Nashville and Hollywood stars were scheduled to appear, including Karen Black, Tom T. Hall, Emmylou Harris, The Hues Corporation, Captain Kangaroo, Lynn Anderson, Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis, Jr., Ronnie Milsap, Anne Murray, Kenny Rogers, Linda Ronstadt, KC & The Sunshine Band, and Anson Williams. According to her 1978 biography, Dolly by Alanna Nash, Parton spoke to Bob Dylan and he initially agreed to do the show, but eventually bowed out due to his discomfort with the television medium at the time.

Lyrics: (Dolly Parton) From a shack by a mountain stream To a room in New Orleans So far from my Blue Ridge Mountain home The men I meet ain't warm and friendly Like the one in old Virginie Oh they ain't real like my Blue Ridge Mountain boy I was just a little past eighteen When I came to New Orleans I'd never been beyond my home state line There was a boy who loved me dearly But I broke his heart severely When I left my Blue Ridge Mountain boy Life was dull in my hometown Lights were out when the sun went down And I thought that city life was more my style But nights get lonely away from home And it's easy to go wrong The men ain't kind like my Blue Ridge Mountain boy New Orleans held things in store Things I'd never bargained for And every night a different man knocks on my door But late at night when all is still I can hear a whippoorwill As I cry for my Blue Ridge Mountain boy Oh but I can never go back home Since the boy I love is gone He grew tired of waiting for me to return They say he married last October But I never will get over Oh the sweet love of my Blue Ridge Mountain boy Blue Ridge Mountain boy

I'm glad Emmylou took up music instead of Drama. I'm afraid there will never be another EmmyLou when God some day takes her from this world. But her voice will always be there for world to listen to. I hope she will one day sing for me in heavan. God bless Emmylou.

God, the singing. This singing that always make me cry like a baby. And the rhythm changes, Hank's crying pedal steel guitar and how it interacts with the guitar licks. The smooth but driving groove of bass and drums. It simply cannot be any better than that. God bless Dolly for writing and owning this beatiful and sad song. But Emmylou with her effortless grace and with the musical power of the Hot Band elevated it upon higher grounds. One of my favorite 10 country tunes.

I saw Emmylou at Wolf Trap in Vienna Virginia right after her album "Blue Kentucky Girl" was released..Leo Kottke opened the show and is an excellent guitar player.... Then Emmylou walked out on stage and you talk about a beautiful woman with the voice of an angel. Good thing I was sitting down when she started singing Beneath Still Waters because my knees would have buckled. Emmylou Harris is still a beautiful lady with the voice of an angel... How can you not love this woman?

Every time I think I'm running out of good things to say about Emmylou, a comment like yours jogs my brain and I think of something else. I almost kinda sorta hope she outlives me.

This might possibly be my favorite Dolly Parton song. Dolly Parton didn’t just write music and songs she wrote philosophy. This song is truly incredible. The more you listen to it the more you will appreciate it. The lyrics, the chord and key changes in the music, and the voice of this young Emmylou. Dolly knew how to write them! The Dolly Parton version is excellent of course, also. I love the 1970 version with Dolly Parton on Hee Haw! Of course their voices are a little different and the interpretation differ slightly, but it is such a work of art when either of them sing it.

Emmy Lou Harris has been a favorite of mine since I was in seventh grade in 1975. I have listened to her for my whole adult life. I have never waivered in my apprecation of this woman's talented voice and musicianship. When it comes time for her to leave the stage as she ages, I am afraid she will be a hard act to replace.

The new age folks often speak of ascended masters, and beings from other dimensions who drop in once in awhile to help us out, and sometimes give us a kick in the seat of the pants. At times I have entertained the idea that perhaps Emmylou is a visitor from Alpha Centauri, or perhaps somewhere in the Andromeda galaxy, sent here to give the music a little nudge in the right direction and show everyone how it's done. Then the mushrooms wear off and I realize that Emmylou Harris is just an exceptionally talented and hard working lady with lots of class who cares deeply about the music and loves to perform and record. We are all extremely fortunate to have her on the earth.

That video looks like it's from Dolly's old television program in the mid 1970's. It looks like the same show where Dolly, Emmylou, and Linda Ronstadt sang "Applejack" and "The Sweetest Gift", which was on Linda's "Prisoner in Disguise" album and that's when I first got turned on to Emmylou Harris. That same album had Linda's version of Dolly's "I Will Always Love You", which is my favorite version of that song. It's a good album. One of Linda Ronstadt's best albums.

Also, I was was wondering why there is this bump in the time line at 54 seconds. And unrelated to that while repeatedly listening to the song, I found myself waiting for this steel guitar transition that covers the end of one line to the beginning of the next line. Just to find, that there is other people out here who appreciate and heavily repeat a 3 second short part of the song. I also love how the quiter parts of the song only have the steel guitar as a lead instrument, while the more upbeat ones only have the guitar with shot licks or subtle riffs. And then some part have both of them and they beatifully intertwine when the camera briefly shows the two musicians.

If u look close, in the lights, u can see the slow changing color of her hair. Three or four strands, showing thru. And what's that u say Emmy Lou? It's all an illusion. A confounding fusion. And even at the apogee of real sweet youth. There stands the Emmy Lou of now, and her mountains of white hair.
