Such a haunting and mournful voice - the feeling and raw emotion she puts into every note every song makes her one of the most talented performers to ever grace the stage. A marvelous musician and talented song writer - Emmylou is truly the elder stateswoman of County Music.

Every million years or so, somebody like this comes along. This is the lady that got me to re-think my outlook on country music at about age 14. I will be forever in her debt for that. She opened an entire universe that I might have otherwise missed. What a class act. And it ain't no act! Emmylou Harris is a genius.

So great to see this; she was able to get this honor in front of her Mom, and her daughter. She closed her acceptance speech by using Minnie Pearl's great catch-phrase, which is just right for so many situations, and should remind the fans that Emmy Lou hadn't risen to the top, but had joined a family. Thanks for making and posting this.

I met Emmylou for a song played on the radio in 1978 and I was impressed with that voice that seemed to come from an angel, so perfect ... From then on I started looking for his songs, which was very difficult in Brazil, but I got many through of friends who traveled and even when I traveled. I have never heard anyone like Emmylou in all these years, he is the greatest voice in music of all times. Impressive! Long live Emmylou !!!

After Parsons died, Linda Ronstadt invited Emmylou to sing with her at the Roxy in LA, then took Emmylou to New York to sing with her on “I Can’t Help It (If I Still Love You)” on Ms. Ronstadt's album “Heart Like A Wheel” (which when released in 1974, was, of course, a smash hit). Emmylou credits that exposure to helping her get her first contract. And that, folks, is what friends are for.

If I had to guess, it had nothing to do with Gram's long hair as to why he wasn't posthumously inducted. What it had and has to do with is the inability of some people to see past a person's addictions to the human inside the shell.

Emmylou well deserves this award, I love her and own her whole catalog. BUT WTF? Gram Parsons is still the reason she learned to love true country music and without him may have never found her place. She was just a single mother & struggling waitress singing Buffy St Marie songs before Gram taught her what it was all about. I am so surprised she didn't mention that when she accepted this award? CMHOF needs to give Gram the award he deserves. It's only about 40 years over due.
@cjcarp94389 жыл бұрын
+howlinwolf73 I think writing and recording songs that immortalized Gram Parson if it was only Boulder to Birmingham it would have been enough did you see the look on her face when it was sung but also Tulsa Queen , her 2nd Album Luxury Liner named after a song Gram wrote and recorded the point is Emmylou Harris has done more to keep Gram Parsons name alive then anyone without her he might have ended up a footnote in the music History books it wasn't until the last 15 years or so that people realized and started re-discovering him and realized his Sig. or at least people outside of the music industry, But they already mentioned Gram was her major influence and the reason why she shifted her music he was the whole opening Statement they even had their Duet "Love Hurts" performed I'd say Gram got his due it would have been stupid of her to repeat something that was already said this wasn't Grams night it was Emmylou's hopefully Gram will get his just dues some day if his Nudie suit and Guitar are in the CMHOF why not him? . She mentions him in almost every interview she gives when asked how she got her start but she wasn't exactly an unknown at the time I doubt Gram would have heard of her had she have been.

Emmy Lou was born for the hall of fame. She gives Gram Parsons a whole lot of credit that in my opinion is only partially true, Emmy Lou had the musical talent, timing, discipline and experience that Parsons did not.
@margaretross91504 жыл бұрын
Actually it's hard for most artists to get a break, no matter how talented, and Emmy was still hoping folk would be her route to making a living in music even though folk wasn't making new stars after the Beatles showed up. Gram had already made the switch from folk and had WAY more experience in the biz than Emmy. He'd been in three professional bands, including the Byrds, and was more than his voice; he was a great musical mind. That's why he snapped her up; he knew how good she was. He also taught her country, including the talents of figures such as the Louvins and Buck Owens, and introduced her to people who later helped her get started, like Linda Ronstadt, his manager, music critics, and many other musicians. She attended the university of Gram, so to speak. 🤠 That's why she gives him so much credit.
