Yeah, they tried to go very healthy with these instant ramens (except for the salt amount which is a whopping ~37%), which is why they don't taste very nice. For example, ingredients for the noodles: unbleached wheat flour, sea salt, vital wheat gluten. It says the noodles will be cooked in 6 minutes, but realistically it can take up to 15 minutes.
@justinedwards50474 ай бұрын
There was a lot of talk about the noodles not being all the way cooked and raw and not the right kind of noodle for a 3 minute soak, but I feel like it was forgotten that the instructions called for a 6 min soak, maybe going with half the soak time was part of the problem
@hallecious4 ай бұрын
Her comment about a 3-minute preference notwithstanding, she did end up waiting a full 4 minutes between preparing the last cup (Spicy Miso) and tasting the first cup she’d added boiling water to (Chicken). I would say that took her at least 6 minutes while she took her time to sample each one, - seeing as she went in order of preparation (1, 2, 3) and there is a lot of time lost while filming before final edits. These noodles appeared to have been parboiled then air-dried, but were not pre-fried before packaging like the squiggly ones typically are. That might taste more raw as the wheat flour hasn’t really been cooked before the boiling water hits them. Fun fact: there exist companies devoted to testing and selecting the perfect wheat strains with the optimal gluten elasticity to be worthy of mass-produced ramen noodles. There exist very serious critics worldwide on the valor of different noodles on the traditional ramen front.
@DumbestDumbFool4 ай бұрын
she was talking about the noodles being different than the other 3 minute noodle in texture, not about the lack of time as she did stated she let them soak for 4 minutes and the soup is barely steaming unlike normal 3 minute soak. Context clues aren't that hard to see

The last thing I tried from Trader Joe’s (TJs) was their vegan tikka masala sauce (comes in a clear plastic pouch next to other sauces/soups). I found it a bit too mild and too bland (“one-noteish”), so added extra spices (garam masala, sugar, cayenne pepper) and a little half & half and it was much better to me. Had it with chicken. So not bad, but having to doctor it up makes me feel other options are better.

One decent americanized ramen is sapporo ichiban (the company, sanyo, is about 3 miles away and looks like a really big warehouse with nothing going on). Even the American version of shin (and shin black) leaves much to be desired when compared to the korean one. I have one recipe that makes top ramen good: Three packs of chicken ramen (boil just over 2 minutes, not 3), two seasonings, three tablespoons honey, two tablespoons spicy mustard, one dozen chicken nuggets. No water, it's a dry recipe. Add some hot sauce to give it a zest. That's honey mustard chicken ramen. If you want to upgrade it, use sapporo chicken flavor. Do not use maruchan, the noodles are too soggy.

I LOVE the dolmas and you should try them next! Otherwise known as stuffed grape leaves. They come in a can and I buy them to keep on hand for lunches. I get the ones stuffed with rice. They used to have quinoa ones but we didn’t like them at all.

I’ve never tried dolmas, I will ask my bf to grab some next time he’s there 🎉

Those are a VERY popular item! People tend to really like the dolmas, and it’s not unusual for them to be running out by the end of the day.

The Princess pastry is supposed to have pearl sugar and hazelnut slivers on top, it’s quite boring without it 😊

Immediately knew when I saw this video how things were gonna go. I was excited to try these when I first started shopping at Trader Joe's and saw these. MAJOR disappointment when everything else I had from TJ's was fantastic up to then. I still can't believe they sell them because idk who is buying them consistently.
