I had Kraft Mac and Cheese (the blue box) only once as a kid. When my Mom made mac and cheese it was always homemade. One time when I was visiting my Dad, I asked for mac and cheese for dinner, he made the stuff in the blue box, I hated it. I've tried it again a handful of times as an adult, and it's ehhh at best. Now, those flavor packets do sound interesting.

Steps to improving box mac 'n cheese: - Add a little more butter than the box calls for - After you drain your noodles, mix the sauce in the saucepan without the noodles, add the noodles after the sauce comes together - While you're mixing up your sauce, add in extra seasonings: black pepper, garlic powder, cayenne, parsley, chives, whatever you want. You can also add extra cheese to the sauce at this stage. I usually throw two slices of American cheese in there

The US version does not use the elbows anymore. The noodles look more like the Canadian version, but not as big. When I make Kraft, I add a few things and change the directions a little. First, when I add the milk, I leave the pan on the stove and turn on the heat very low. I add the butter and let it melt, then add a handful of shredded cheese. I stir the cheese powder in last. I prefer mine with the pasta cooked 1-2 min less then only mix in 2 Tbsp of milk and 2-3 tbsp of butter and the cheese powder. Then my key rule is it must sit after mixing for 5 min. I have heard that Americans eat it as a side dish and mainly for kids. In Canada we tend to eat it as a whole meal and adults eat it about as much as kids do in my exerience. That's part of why they sell more here. It's very popular. You can even get it in some restaurants and one of my favourite burger places (The Works in Ottawa) has it on one of their burgers. I even know a recipe for pepared then frozen, breaded, and deep fried KD bites.
