Very good idea to split that big hive and use those valuable (like you said $45 dollars for a new queen) Queen Cells to make a new hive. You don't have to tear down the supercedure cells, the bees will do it once their new queen emerges.

It's so fun to sit in the fields in spring with them swarming around & making little ground holes... I don't know if I could beekeep with them though?? I don't know if they even make traditional honey... All very fascinating though!! 🐝
@lanabmakeup5 жыл бұрын
Diana Fronsdahl bees that usually nest in the ground are usually solitary bees that don’t and won’t live in hives. You might have seen ‘bee hotels’ around and they are usually for the solitary bees to use

Every time I watch your bee videos and you’re moving the frames and hive boxes around, I say aloud, “Oh no, baby bees, don’t get squished!” I’m so worried about them getting flattened under the weight and movement of everything. But I guess it’s a risk and a hazard of the job. :( Regardless, I love your videos! The whole process is fascinating and I’ve learned so much. ❤️

Just a thought: Pull and end frame first, then remove the others. One end should provide you with more room to avoid rolling bees if you make it a habit to compact to the same side. The frame removed at 16:59 is how queens are killed.

I have a question.... When you enter the hives and move the boxes around and set them back up, do you end up squashing alot of bees, it seems they are in the way when you are doing this. Thank you
@cypher2375 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure she's really careful & if you're slow enough they move out of the way... There are probably some causalities, & that would drive me nuts!!! But I think there is a bit of a gap between the boxes as well, so they don't get smashed...
