Emmy Song does the admissions officers count the online non-credit courses as classes taken outside of school? are they impressive? (I live in turkey and we can't take classes from a local uni)

Thank you for the video, really, but I just have a quick question. Sadly, I have always slacked off in school, and up until my last year of MS (8th grade) I started caring. Now, as a Freshman, and as someone who just started caring about mathematics only last year, I am in Pre-Algebra and obviously very behind. I hate it, but it’s over and down with, nothing can change that. I was wondering if I would be considered to much of a failure to get into Princeton (by their standards or acceptance). What are your thoughts? i’m thinking about taking more math classes towards my last two years to make up, but it’s not guaranteed, and honestly I feel like I messed up my chances and future. Many people say don’t get obsessed with the idea of getting into the Ivy League, but honestly it’s what I want, and i’m not changing my mind for someone else’s opinion yknow? it’s also a downer on my ambition:/ Edit: do you think a really good essay could make up for that? I just read about how essays are the biggest part of getting in (besides all the other big things like scores and grades). Sorry for the long paragraph, I just really want to get into this school:)
@shreyadudeja44322 жыл бұрын
hey! so I’m a junior in hs so idk how much this will help you but if you can, take some math courses over the summer so you can get ahead or take them online during the year and you can always self study for ap exams! but don’t stress too much because if you don’t plan to do something math related then I don’t think it will hurt you too much. also a great essay will 100% help you A LOT on Ivy college applications but make sure it’s not generic and something truly emotional or meaningful. hope this helps :)
@taichai53462 жыл бұрын
Omg we relate so much but I slacked off throughout a lot of elementary and middle school and I just started caring. My parents are gonna enroll me in online math classes and probably science over the summer so I can get ahead and be in honors next year. Try that. Best of luck and In’Sha’Allah we will both get into the Ivy League. I believe in you❤️💅💅

@EmmySong4 жыл бұрын
test scores don't hold as much weight on your application as you may think! think of them as just getting your foot through the door-beyond a certain score, schools will be placing more consideration on your classes, extracurriculars, and essays

is it possible to improve your SAT score a lot by studying more? I’ve been studying so hard for months and I improved from a 1420 to a 1530, but the last practice test I took dropped back down to a 1480. I really need a 1570+ for the schools I want to apply to-is it possible to make that score if I’m not naturally scoring as high as it seems like everyone else is? 😅 I don’t know if I should adjust my expectations or keep trying....
@phantomsniper10832 жыл бұрын
For even Ivies any higher than 1500 makes no difference… what kind of school did you need 1570 for??
@ancients64982 жыл бұрын
So it really doesn't matter at that point? Just aim for above 1500, a few points will not make or break your application. Also, yeah ofc it's possible to get any score on the sat-- it's a college readiness test, not an iq test. Of course some people will struggle much more on it for a variety of reasons, but it's not something you'll cap out on. Would not reccomend putting all your time into it, though. Trust me, any super competitive school isn't going to be more interested in those extra 100 points on your application than in extracurriculars and showing that you are an individual. Test scores aren't the most important part of an application.

I have a really good GPA and SAT score but I have fucking terrible leadership skills and my extracurriculars don’t even come close to what you did. I was in like 3 clubs in high school and I did a good amount of volunteer work but as far as leadership goes I’m very lacking. I’m going to apply to MIT and I really hope but seriously doubt I’ll get in.

Hey how did you self study for Physics C? I am taking it next year as a junior with no prior physics knowledge and will concurrently be taking Calc BC. I am planning on studying during the summer. Is there a specific textbook I should use?
@EmmySong4 жыл бұрын
Using a test prep book (I personally recommend Princeton Review's AP Physics C book) is very helpful and it teaches you everything you need to know for the exam. If you want to dig deeper into the material and gain a more solid understanding, though, you could ask your high school's AP Physics teacher for a textbook and class resources
