Colin shared some wise words in this week's episode. My own father didn’t say a kind or encouraging word to me until I was in my mid-30s, but I was fortunate to reconcile with him before he passed, despite a difficult upbringing. As Colin said, it’s never too late.

My Dad passed away 5 years ago. He was never one for overt displays of affection but his way of showing his love was through doing things for the family with his hands (for me it was mainly fixing my very unreliable old British sports car that I bought as a 17year old). Seeing your Dad making you shelves for the boat hit me in the feels. Treasure every moment.

the comments about your dad, i can totally relate to especially now that i am 53 and my father is 85. There is a saying that i found initially a bit difficult to understand but the more you think about it, the more it makes sense and its really so true. As you get older the days get longer and the years get shorter.

Dude I'm missing Dave so much lad he got a shout out. If you are having this epiphany at 40 just imagine where your dad is. I'm 63 and totally agree. Spend time while you can, my dad is gone. Miss him everyday. Thank you for another great video Colin. Carry on

So very true what Colin said. I am 45 now and have been away “touring” the world for 24 years. Having really hard time trying to get to know them again. Living a “Nomadic” life as beautiful as it is, comes with a big price.

Your circumnavigation of New Zealand has been stunning, and Colin's personal reflections in this episode kept things nicely grounded, but there's nothing quite like a new passage plan and new crew to rekindle the excitement. Really looking forward to the next stage of your global adventure. Safe travels Parlay !

Colin, Loved this episode. Your comments regarding time with your dad hit the nail on the head. I lost my dad when I turned 48 before I started building our Catamaran, and I know he would have taken so much pride in helping me build our boat. I was blessed to be able to achieve some massive projects with him and I was was so happy to see you and Grant working together and having a good laugh, thats the stuff I miss. Thanks for the heartwarming video. Rossco

Colin, you and as a result, your channel are so very sincere, honest, insightful and inspiring, I'm so blessed to have both my parents fully supportive of my sailing aspirations and of everything I've undertaken in my life, you only have 1 family and regardless of everything else they're what count, 2 years ago as I was doing the last refit work and final preparations on my boat (hard chine steel Van De Stadt 34') for a single handed Atlantic crossing I had a fire break out below while I was doing a small welding job on deck, all necessary precautions were taken with several wet rags directly below where I was welding, fire blankets, extinguishers and a mate below keeping watch, somehow a spark or a something hot got into the polystyrene insulation and before we knew it the quarter berth was on fire, the extinguishers were hopelessly inadequate and it ended up gutting a large portion of the interior, brand new refrigeration, all instruments, inverter, autopilot, clutches, 2 self tailing winches, all portlights and so on, along with quite significant burns to both my shoulders and arms, my insurance company payed out about 50% of the total damages because I was under-insured on several items and hadn't yet added several upgrades and new items to my insurance policy, long story short, my parents were there for me all the way, they stood by me at my lowest ebb, and that's what families do, I didn't ask for their support and help, but they gave it unconditionally and it's only brought us closer together, I'm now in the final stages of rebuilding/refitting my boat after putting in basically my entire cruising budget to make up for the insurance shortfall, they've given me a place to stay,, fed me, just basically been there for me and haven't asked for anything in return. Point I'm trying to make is that when the shit hits the fan, you can always count on your family to back you up. Regarding seasickness........I'm one of the fortunate ones, never experienced it, not even upside down in the engine bay, with oil and diesel, at the nav desk at night doing chartwork, cooking, groveling in the bilge, and I've been in some really shitty conditions off the South African coast and offshore, many hours of night watches, many miles of offshore passages later and not one chunder😂😂😂. Keep up the great videos, they're entertaining, inspirational and insightful❤❤

As for my real dad well after my baby brother (37) passed last year I got to see him for the nasty toxic man I had always seen but being family you allow them to be around. I have to choose my path without the toxic it’s hard very hard and sometimes no matter how many times you try you gotta choose yourself. I’m so glad you got these moments with your Dad and he’s carpentry skills are now forever on your boat 🛥️ very heartfelt and brought all the feels 🫶🏼😢your New Zealand trip and the camera work and editing should win awards outstanding 🙌 praying 🙏 for safe passage and travels it’s awesome to see patrons involved and creating once in a lifetime experiences ❤❤❤ grateful for the opportunity to watch and enjoy the journey with you all.
