I had the rare privilege of being in the audience for this concert. Sissel had also performed with the Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square in 2006 for their annual Christmas concert, and I was really looking forward to seeing her perform again. When this number, “Slow Down,” started, after about 20 or 30 seconds, there was this sensation like electricity in the air. As far as I could tell, everyone in attendance (21,000 people), knew that they were witnessing something very special. At the end of the song, there is the brief pause. It seemed like it lasted for a minute, but it was only a second or two, and there was perfect, sacred stillness. Then everyone leapt to their feet. (Or slowly pulled themselves upright, for us older kids.) But the ovation went on and on. Sissel was very emotional. The audience was very emotional. Her voice is like crystal and chimes. It was a highlight of my life, I can tell you that. Thank you for your reaction to this!

The audio for the recording doesn't do it justice, just how thunderous that applause is. The Conference Center at Temple Square is massive on the inside. 21k attendees all united in applause, in a hall built for acoustics is borderline deafening. It's tremendous. One of the best performances ever at that hall

As a Norwegian, Sissel Kyrkjebø is well known. She became an instant hit as a 16-year old when she sang at TV-show in 1985 or 1986. Not long after she came up with an album with the song "Kjærlighet" (= Love) that became "the Sissel-song" for a long time. The song is a cover of the song "Only Love" by NanaMouskouri, but the text is altered in the Norwegian version - becoming more about the Agape-Love, than the Romantic-Love. Anyway - take a listen to this young version of Sissel: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYqVkqVmjKuUaZo

I had never heard of Sissel before this video, and my immediate reaction was to think she sounded much like Barbra Streisand with the purity of her voice. Another artist with an amazingly pure voice is Alison Kraus. She did a sublime duet with cellist Yo-Yo Ma of "Simple Gifts." The video on KZbin has the audio with the poster's own slideshow of images. They also do a great version of the "Wexford Carol," and you can find a video of them in the studio recording it. I don't think you would be disappointed with either.

James Horner said the following: "When I finished Titanic, I had to decide on Celine Dion or Sissel. Sissel I was very close with, while Celine had known me since she was 18, and for which I had already written three movie songs. But that was before Celine became known and the filmmakers and marketers had not done what they should have done for Celine and the songs. So I felt I owed her a Titanic chance, but I could have used Sissel there. " Sissel would’ve been a big world star if she got to sing that song, but Sissel has later said she was glad she didnt get it, cause she wasnt willing to give up her life and move to America, She had a small child then... and she was happy she got to sing the score through the whole movie.
