Hey guys look at the testing of this device by itself not attached to a car. The device can pass through a charge. Does this testing show that it works to protect a car in the application it’s being sold for?? No.... clever marketing. Your commoner will look at a report and be like ok 129 pages and some graphs it checks out. Someone who reads it realizes the device isn’t being tested in its intended application. Lots of DOD engineers in the comments that know what makes their planes EMP shielded. I’ll take their advice. I also ran it by my dad. He was a crew chief for the F15 for 22 years and he laughed and said “yeah... no” 🙄

Love the channel. Retired Electronics Warfare Officer on AC130s here. This will not save you from an emp. Take it from someone who shot electrons (RF) at ir/radar guided missiles for a living. You need a metal cage. Circuitry in the computer chips will fry even if your battery survives. The effectiveness of an emp depends a lot on the distance and power of the detonation. Best bet is to get an older backup car with minimal electronics (none-at least when it comes to the basic functionality) and throw an extra battery in an old microwave shell. You can store backup radios/batteries/anything you care to have at the end of the world in a microwave. Old metal garbage cans can sometimes work as well. If an emp is ever detonated DO NOT I repeat DO NOT immediately turn on your backup crap. A second or third attacking is coming to shut down backup systems. Wait at least a week or as long as you can to maintain your shelter in place strategy. Peace!

Most sensitive electronics even a car would be protected. You'd probably need to hide it or better still, get it buried as many survivors will want it.

In case you didn’t know, the negative pole of your car battery is at chassis ground. The EMP will induce a high current into any metal product; including the computer chips in your car (there are a bunch of them). There is no physical way that double grounded black box can protect your vehicle or your house. If you could put it in a Faraday cage, that would work.

I'm an electrical engineer getting my PhD and I highly doubt this thing would save the electronics. The only thing that would help would be a faraday cage or a metal box without any holes or crevices around the vehicle. I mean come on, the warranty is worthless, when are you going to really put it to the test? And if an EMP or big solar flare does happen and it fails (it will fail), the warranty is the last thing you should worry about.

@@LastLineOfDefense I personally don't really care about the warranty. I just don't think, from an electromagnetics perspective, that this device is enough to protect a vehicle against an EMP. The truck has too many crevices where high power would get inside and create high currents that would burn electronics no matter what. I would love to see a device this small work though.

This is really good advice for everyone, no need to do otherwise, nothing else will work. An EMP component E1 is very fast, so I'm betting on my 1972 Monte Carlo car to be my EMP proof vehicle. I will not be driving it during an EMP so it will be just fine. The wiring is an antenna,. so when there is a complete circuit, things get hot and wiring is not a fused link. I have a spare alternator, if I need one, with the battery disconnected, which is the way I store it, it will be fine. QED

Hey Mike, maybe I'm mistaken, but it looks you have the device installed with the hole for the wires pointing up. As a former automotive wire harness engineer, i highly suggest you point the opening down. I'm guessing it's a sealed unit, but water (almost) always finds a way in eventually. With a device you can't test, it would give you the best protection from water intrusion.
@chris38663
@chris38663 4 жыл бұрын
I'd say you got swindled. I worked on aircraft that were EMP hardened. Every harness was shielded. All critical electronics boxes had diodes to block the energy that came in on the wires. All the wires in your truck form antennas in an emp. You'd need to either shield the harnesses and have em tight housings or put arresters on all wires in and out of critical boxes, plus have em tight enclosures. Good news is government testing found about half of new cars might survive the event anyway. They also found you could pretty well protect most cars by shielding all critical wire harnesses. The bigger concern is the electrical grid which would fail outright. So do you have a couple years worth of gas stored away?

That's completely useless against an EMP. It'll maybe help against lightning and a CME. But an EMP has multiple phases -- E1, E2, and E3 -- and the E1 component is much faster (5 nanoseconds) than the response time of virtually any surge suppressor designed for lightning. Lightning is very similar to the E2 component of an EMP, which is a pulse in excess of 1000 nanoseconds. The E3 component is similar to a coronal mass ejection (CME) and can last tens to hundreds of seconds. Most lightning surge suppressors are voltage-limiting devices -- zener diodes, TVS diodes, varisters, spark gaps, gas discharge tubes, etc. -- which respond faster than current-limiting devices like fuses and breakers, but they're usually not fast enough for the E1 pulse. It will have done its damage before they can shunt the voltage to ground. The E1 component of the EMP can also destroy lightning protection devices, thus allowing the E2 and E3 components to do additional damage. The "EMP Shield" appears to be a spark gap arrester. Spark gap arresters have a relatively slow response time (microseconds) and high let-through voltage (3-6kV), which makes them wholly inadequate for EMP protection. They can also cause fires with ionized gas released. I don't believe their claims whatsoever. No shunting method works in half a nanosecond. None. One way you can help suppress the E1 component is by using ferrite chokes with the Fair-Rite 61 material mix, which has the greatest coercive field, giving it a super fast reaction time. Ferrite chokes convert common mode voltage transients into heat energy through both resistance and reactance. They won't necessarily stop a strong EMP, but they'll attenuate it, giving other protection devices a greater chance of working and also possibly providing sufficient protection on their own if you're at the edge of the affected area. I'm not sure an air choke (popular with HAMs) is effective against E1, but ferrites should be. Another way is with bypass capacitors in parallel to your protected circuit, but these can blow out at high voltages, so you'd have to find capacitors that can handle the 50kV/m (multiplied by the length of the wire acting as an antenna) generated by an EMP. Capacitors can be used with ferrite chokes as well. You can also add shielding to any wires that aren't meant to act as antennas using grounded metal conduit. I think the conduit should also act as a choke in addition to a shield. But you have to be careful that you don't accidentally cause your conduit to act like an antenna. These "EMP Shield" guys can get away with selling you snake oil because if there's ever an EMP, they can just declare bankruptcy and walk away (assuming they survive the EMP). You'll never see a dime of their so-called warranty. This thing is just a really expensive lightning surge arrester (e.g. Siemens FS140 Whole House Surge Protection, doubled in price) and a fancy sales pitch. I invite them to discuss the true internals of the thing to prove otherwise. Siemens isn't going to claim that their surge protector stops an EMP because they're a real company and have real credibility. A whole house (or vehicle or boat) surge protector isn't a bad idea, and it might help along with other things like ferrite chokes, bypass capacitors, buffering batteries, Faraday cages, etc., but it won't stop an E1 pulse on its own.

@@hodlfast1104 An EMP cannot penetrate ground at all if the space is completely enclosed because it's effectively a Faraday cage. However, any openings larger than a fractional wavelength will allow it to enter. The maximum intensity of a nuclear EMP is at approximately 100 MHz, which is the same frequency as 100 FM on your radio. If you drive to the bottom of the parking garage and tune into 100 FM or channels nearby, and you still get a signal, then you're not protected. If the signal is gone or extremely weak, then it's offering decent protection.

Cool information, though I have questions just as you did when you called the mfr. Just as I was about to write my ???'s about this, I looked down and saw Edgar Bustamane's comment, which I agree with and have my electronics degree to guide me about my concerns. The first thought is the mfr would have to have a good idea how much current/voltage comes from an EMP and looking at the wiring of that device in no way gives me confidence in what I would expect to be large gauge wires, such as one would see attached to the vehicle's battery (the largest ones) which are usually 6ga or so. Roughly, the electrical current/voltage has to go somewhere else if not through your 'exposed to the air without grounded insulation' electronics and wiring and this device, being a stand alone box can't just store the energy like a capacitor or coil and release it safely somewhere other than your vehicle WITHOUT a path to that 'somewhere else'. Our vehicles ride on rubber tires which act as an insulator (so they won't allow electricity to go to ground and dissipate). Now if a vehicle had multiple braided grounding straps dragging on the ground all the time, there's a chance and EMP pulse could be directed THROUGH exterior conductive path of a metal body to ground without affecting electronic devices, but even that has it's variables such as the ground surface itself being conductive when (at the exact moment) an EMP occurs as well as your vehicle's electronics being isolated from the flow of electricity. If you were driving the conductive strap equipped vehicle on a rubberized track at a school, there is no place for the electrical current to move to, what then? If you were struck while walking on that rubber track, unfortunately the electricity would go into your relatively conductive (because of the water content mostly) body and exit the most effective path possible. This usually ends up being feet on the way to the ground and worse, the path through your body could include your heart, your brain...If no path, your body would be where the attempt to store the high voltage would occur and since you are not designed as a high capacity component, it would fry many internal organs, whatever is most conductive, until it escapes to another place. There have been people almost vaporized when the current/voltage is high enough. Admittedly, I'm not an EMP expert, so what happens in reality is beyond me. I only have educated guesses to go on. Sorry, dealing with this objectively means being realistic. I'll be more than happy to eat my words if by chance a new technology I don't know about proves me wrong, but until I see it with my own eyes and in person, I'm not buying it.

Before I spent money on a device like that, I would want to know how it was tested. My understanding is the ECU (or ECM) would be ruined during an an EMP because their would not be a countering electromagnetic field device like a Faraday Cage taking the EMP pulse away from the the ECU/ECM on the firewall or inside the car. If you cannot ground the EMP charge away from your device, they will fail. And some modern cars have as many as 4 or more sub-Control Modules in the vehicle.

I'm a retired Aerospace Technologist and you just wasted your vlog! You have grounded the battery to the device but that's it (if the PVC (94 volt) box isn't shielded inside then even the battery won't be either. Best way to shield the car or truck in your case would be to individually ground each component with either copper, silver, Gold fingers is best or mesh with o-ring gasket. The gasket must be placed on the base and top of shielded boxes that are made of metal or plated like baby shoes (copper etc). Don't forget your truck is sitting on rubber tires which is shielding it too. AND yes you can Die from a SOLAR FLARE too!

Without looking inside the unit and running multiple tests we can only speculate what it is and how it works but looking at the design and description how it works it's most likely some form of surge arrestor. They do work but only in a very specific situation and even than they are only 60-80% effective. The only way that you can protect your vital electronics like ECU is to have them in case in specialised form of Faraday cage and on top of that they need to have ability of being temporary disconnect during EMP. This is the only 100% way to prevent damage anything else doesn't work. It's like bullet proof vest they also work but only in specific situations! If they are rated for 308 and yo get shot with 22 short in the vest no problem it will work perfectly and it will protect you but if you get shot in the head it doesn't matter if you are wearing the vest! If you get massive solar flare it will be equivalent of getting shot with Canon id doesn't matter if you get hit in the middle of your vest or leg you will not going to make it. So stop wasting your money on crap that doesn't work! and even if it was 100% effective EMP will be last thing on your mind if a nuclear bomb explode near you

I have my doubts about this. I think the most foolproof method to totally protect against an EMP is to get an old truck and have all the wires and electrical components on hand in a faraday cage. The problem with new trucks is the amount of electrical components and wiring. Unless you work on them for a living, you're going to be way in over your head. Sometime after the EMP, change out all the electrical parts. There would likely be multiple EMPs so it would not be wise to change them out immediately and it would be wise to have multiples of each component. This is certainly a cheaper option than buying all the parts multiple times over but will it protect against the EMP? My guess is it would get fried like everything else and even if it did manage to stop the first EMP, it would take the full brunt of the pulse, and get fried, leaving your truck vulnerable to the next attack. Nevertheless, it's a good option to have. All I'm saying is don't solely rely on it and think it will get you through.

I would make sure to get the tools to be able to recondition batteries so that when it craps out you will be able to make due. I would also stock up on the cells, plates, and caps from a battery manufacturer/reconditioner or from old batteries. I know with the dry cell batteries you won’t be able to recondition them very easily if at all. It may be wise to get a secondary battery that has regular old acid so that you can recondition that one and use the other battery for other accessories. Getting a solar power battery charger also in case of an alternator crapping out would be wise as well and having extra rebuild kits for the alternator/starter/pulleys. You better be ready to guard your property with your life in an end world scenario when nobody has a working vehicle. Ensuring it is a dark color would be wisest, driving at night, using a night vision camera to avoid using lights, and have tap/bags to cover up your lights inside your vehicle because a lighted up vehicle in the complete darkness would be an easy target for a needy person with a rifle. We don’t want to make ourselves easy targets by any means. If you’re trying to avoid the forced jabs I would start producing your own foods (meat & veggies) because back in September Klaus Schwab admitted that they will start to put the mRNA technology along with nanotechnology in the food & animals that are going to market for consumption. The nanotechnology is considered “GRAS” (generally regarded as safe) because the larger granular sized particles of the same type of elements/minerals/matrix are considered safe without doing any tests with nano sized technology/particles. It is commonly known in the scientific community that nano particles nearly always have properties that aren’t anywhere near the properties of the regular minerals. This can be viewed as Carbon is 6 atoms, then you assemble 6 carbons together into graphite, and when you put 6 graphite molecules together you form Graphene oxide. Graphene oxide is known to have the same properties as water being both hydrophilic, hydrophobic, and electrically conductive. These 3 traits aren’t present in carbon or graphite at all. Just a little extra science for the survivors out there to stay on top of their survival game.
