EMP/SOLAR STORM HOW TO PREPARE?

I get many questions about SOLAR FLARES, SOLAR STORMS and EMPs. I realise that finding information on how to prepare for such an event is tough to weed through. Over the years I have done as much research as my brain could handle. If you want to see what I have done please comment. By no means am I pretending to be an expert on this subject. Let me know what parts of keeping the lights on you would like me to go in to or transportation.www.youtube.com...

Good video. Good Info for the most part. The ammo can is foolproof, great. Batteries are for the most part A OK. Solar Panels are iffy, it depends on how long of a connecting wire/cable connected to them. The longer the cable run, the larger the induced current spike. It could burn out the cells or just the diodes. Having some extra blocking diodes in your ammo can, to replace the ones on the panels, could possibly save the day and get you back up and running.

You do great videos and put out some not only valueable info but interesting topics as well in my opinion. Although I have'nt seen but a few of them yet (will catch up) I'm glad to say I'm from the same state, down the road in Wilson. Looks like you've put a lot of thought, time and effort and spared no expense in your emergency and off grid set up. Thank's for sharing and please continue.

I would love to see detailed solar how to videos. Everthing i find on the internet just seems to be someone showing off there solar system and not how they hooked everything up and how it works. What would a person need to have to be totally off grid (i mean not hooked up to any outside source of electricity) . i know thats not cost effective but thats what i want to do.

For me the interest lies in generators. It's the easiest way for me to wrap my head around a back up energy source. I know i't's short term but until I know where I'm going to live, it's what I need becasue it's mobile. I have a gas generator wired in a separate box so I don't have extension cords everywhere. I have a 200 gallon steel drum to store fuel, but haven't decided which direction to go with a generator. I have a diesel truck but will not survive an EMP. I have a gas Harley that will.

So far your ideas are good. unfortunately, your answers are antiquated. looking at current technology and methods our uses are bad for emp. if you have questions please comment here. I am a multi generational engineer. we have looked at and prepared for more than 25 years. Like this gentleman I don't want to scare but expertly inform. it is easier than most would think, though harder to imagine. this is a one time post. I won't rag on anyone, you know what you know. I would like to help and educate. looking to see if anyone wants more information.

Things are slow in Wilson, business wise atleast. There have been more places shutting down and closing their doors that just can't sustain/survive than new business coming. The mall is even about to be torn down (was supposed to start 1/7/13 but did'nt. Not a bad idea now in my opinion, lol) and there is Very little new residential construction. It's much different here now than even five years ago in multiple ways. On lighter note,I have a connex/international shipping container.Good 4 faraday?

your system looks awesome an well thought out...i plan to add 2 wind turbines as well on a ham tower i bought... would you suggest doing different/ multiple battery banks? or 1 huge one? i may sell some of my batteries i doubt ill need that many..also im going to watch several of your vids tonite, but can u tell more in detail about your set up..it looks more intense than just a charge controller/ inverter/ an battery bank. what else do u have an would u suggest doing it..

a few things: we just built our first hardened/faraday cage from a galvanized full size garbage can, cardboard and that flex seal spray stuff. it works with all radio signals but not cell. Is that normal? I am about to buy a 93 VW Rabbit TDI (50mpg) is that EMP/Flare proof or what would make it so? Also I would like some recommendations on truck models/years that are. A list of items to put in Hard Cage would be cool too. Man I wish you had the time to look at my shop plans.

Nikola Tesla was one of the top five smartest people that ever lived. The ammo can is great, Also you could get those all metal trash cans with metal lids and it will work also. Just get a battery powered radio, tune it to a strong local signal, put it in the can, if you can still hear music, not good enough, need more seal between lid and can, if all you hear is static, you're good to go.

Not true, The outlet/switch/fixture just can't be a direct threw hole box. look at how a hospital X-Room is designed. Just as long as everything is designed at 90 degree angles, and no direct holes are drilled all the way threw both sides, the emp can't get in\out since emp's can't make 90 degree turns. Raytheon builds the same rooms there radar systems and faraday gages.

Just spend some money on lead lined sheetrock and put your electrical/electronic stuff inside. Anything short of a direct hit will survive. As for vehicles, not going to happen they simply have to many sensitive parts, in todays modern vehicles.

everything thats direct current like flashlights would be emp proof but stuff like computers or cell phones any thing with a computer chip in it would be fried and you wouldn't be able to get it to run unless you have a replacement stored in a harden cabinet or faraday cage.

My question is in regard to EMP or major solar flare which knocks out the world wide grid or even the nations grid. It has been brought to my attention that if we lose power for a substantial amount of time. That we shouldn't worry about food, heat, or even water. I heard the biggest problem we would have to deal with is the approximately 110 nuclear power stations in the US. I have read that generators will keep the water cooling pumps running via fuel, but most power stations don't have enough fuel to keep the pumps running longer then 3-4 weeks. After the fuel runs out, there is a good chance that fuel trucks would be almost impossible to replenish the supply to keep the generators running. Then the pumps will stop and the nuclear fuel rods will overheat and create a meltdown. This in turn will allow for masses of radiation to go airborne. My question is, what is the best way to prep for this type of disaster? Where can we go to avoid the radiation? I read somewhere that the best place to go is high in the rocky mountains. I don't know if that is true or why it would be. Any response from someone would be greatly appreciated. I think this is a good topic for discussion. Thanks all!

I have a Panasonic 60 KW industrial generator that I converted to run off of water and anything liquid and I'm building an underground house so before I start spraying concrete How do I make sure that the coper wire cage im surrounding the house with will be effective for a solar flare Do I need to surround the complete structure or just from above? what size square should I make it and will the steel used in the concrete be enough or will only copper work

NO. bullets will not discharge in an EMP. The static charge of a EMP is not powerfull enough to activate the primer or powder in a shell. You would need a static charge 529 times that of the carrington event to set off a bullet. And a solar flare that big would fry the surface of the planet.
