I have worked on a bunch of old clocks, so you can believe me when I say some slapstick stuff came out of clock factories the last hundred years. Gluing in blocks for spacers is the norm. Holes for the winding arbors going right through the numbers is a lot more common than it should be. Moral of the story is ...Yours looks pretty good by comparison.

Hi Greg. Nice informative video. I have the same mantel clock with the pendulum type movement that my dad made from an emperor kit. He built several from Emperor including a beautiful grandfather clock in 1972. The movement has been replaced once and it still runs like a champ. I built the Bracket Mantel Clock for my son and his wife as a wedding present in 2011 and am having problems keeping it running. Currently working with Emperor to find a solution. Thanks!

I bought and assembled an Emporer grandfather clock back in 1987. The Emporer clock company is no longer in business. The company was located in Alabama. I enjoy your videos.

I have the one like this with the pendulum. I’ve had it since around 1985. My two bottom low tone striking hammers are now getting stuck in an up position. I think it’s because I’ve had the chimes turned off for years off and on and may be just gunked from no use. I did oil it two years ago and it runs mostly well, but dies out after three days. I think the spring might be getting worn, not sure. I try to be careful winding it. Right now I have it open to see if the troubled hammers will keep working. Not sure how to fix it if they keep getting stuck. No repair shops here in FL.

Do you know of any clock kits that you put all the mechanics together as well as the case?

That would be a perfect idea for a project to do bonding with with the kids. A higher brow alternative to fixing and old car 😁

This is one you could finish in a couple of days. The old car is... potentially... well...
