15:14 is where my favourite part starts. So many Vehicons could've been so unique and different from each other, *despite* all looking the same! I think that would've been a fun dynamic! To keep the audience on our toes, to see if we recognize which Vehicon is which in a certain scene. Not exactly giving them names or anything, but like have "the two badass Vehicons" be in the middle of a bunch of _"useless Vehicons"_ and catch the Autobots by surprise, like "oh scrap, it's *those two."* They could show up occasionally and distinguish themselves by clearly being more confident, professional and "badass" compared to the rest of their peers, not by different looks or even names. Then they'd be the only two who manage to escape when their whole squad goes down. Or have the "tree Vehicon" actually be the most creative of the bunch and we'd recognizing him by seeing him deploy the most out of the box tactics in battle. Like, I dunno, hiding behind a storeroom and throwing a steamroller on the Autobots. Or shooting down some building's pillars so it falls _on top_ of the Autobots Or just say "screw it" and grab a rock and start beating an Autobot's face in, I dunno! XD

12:45 I'm a bit late to the party, but this makes me wonder if the Vehicons are not actually clones, but instead just a mass produced chassis model, since if it were possible to create artificial sparks, it would have been brought up already within the show, or any of its cannon. (I may be missing some key information here, but this is just a small idea/theory.)
@mickyflint Жыл бұрын
in most continuities it seems that most bots were forced into castes based on their abilities back before the Decepticons and auto-bots formed. I haven't read the comics, but I've seen discussions of them. as such it's likely the vehicons were made to be a generalized workforce while heavier built transformers were used as demolitionists and heavier construction roles hence bulkhead having a wrecking ball in his hand instead of using a mace or hammer that he could carry around like the sword Optimus sometimes wields. both Optimus and Megatron who both had different names back then tried to change things. Optimus wanted peaceful reform, but Megatron felt such a plan doomed to failure after many protests and other actions were suppressed and started a revolution only to fall to the same corruption. the name Decepticon was even an insulting label the cybertronian government used for them that they embraced in a similar way to Tyrion Lannister embracing being called dwarf.
@eggroll5510 Жыл бұрын
I rember hearing something similar about this.
@wd3185 Жыл бұрын
Well, the sparks themselves wouldn't be artificial. "Armada" gives the implication that all Vehicons are cloned from protoforms, Cybertronians formed from the Well of All Sparks without identities or personalities (and we know that the large majority of Cybertronians being born for many centuries prior to the Great War were like this), and that the Vehicons are clones made from these protoforms. The sparks are genuine, it's the bodies that are mass-produced. But your theory of a chassis template as opposed to a genetic template is very interesting. It actually makes sense if a body type was the basis for Vehicon cloning instead of a specific individual, as it not only explains their different voices and personalities, but also how there can be different types of Vehicons, like cars, jets and Miners.

Hm... I believe the reason why the Vehicon Miners in the Show are seen to be killed by the Autobots, despite the fact they are not allowed to hurt servant-class decepticons, I think has something to do with something similar in our reality. For example, Medics in WW2. During WW2 its a war crime for both US and Nazi germany as they are forbidden to kill Medics, but Medics are also equipped with firearms for self-defense purposes. When a Medic starts using their weapons (i.e. firing their weapon), they are now considered as Soldiers, not medics. In the Prime Show, whenever the Autobots invade any energon Mine, the Vehicon Miners always pulls out their weapons and fire upon the Autobots without hesitation which gives the Autobots the excuse to kill Vehicon Miners without second thoughts. But that’s just my speculation.

I'm honestly surprised they didn't add a few defector Vehicons into the Autobots' ranks. And it's not like it would've been hard to write, with the Autobots being far more merciful and caring then the Decepticons. Just have, like, one scene of Optimus pulling up and saying _"stand down and do not resist"_ and then have a few Vehicons (like 2 or 3) actually duck with their hands covering their heads and surrender when the smoke clears! For me, Vehicon OCs are almost always the highlight of any fanfic that has them. They are a goldmine of potential for good writers and I just love them to bits. Considering how the Decepticons in at least some continuities started as a rebellion among lower class disposables, it becomes a cruel echo when the Decepticons themselves develop their even more faceless disposable class and I cheer every time a fanfic hints at the vehicons gearing up towards their own rebellion - even if it starts as something as seemingly insignificant as choosing their own names (and sometimes gender identity). As for why the vehicons have different voices while the Starscream clones all have Starscream's voice, I'm blaming it on the Starscream clones being brand spanking new, with no time to separate their identities from Starscream's identity and modding themselves. While the army does have a "dress code" of sorts to maintain a uniform look, a voice isn't *seen* and is unlikely to bother a superior as long as no one goes too far off spec. A voice to a robot would in all likelihood be some kind of synthesizer, and anyone who has played with vocaloids knows that you can get a pretty good range out of those. With limited identity options, I could imagine some vehicons spending quite a lot of their free time modifying their voices just to get *something* that is all their own. Also, while all are clones, it's unlikely that they are all cloned from the same person since they are as different as they are. There'd have to be at least two (a grounder and a flier) but I'd guess somewhere in the range of five originals, unless there really is some CNA mutation going on. Perhaps it was used as a reward to particularly skilled warriors that they'd be used as blueprints for one or a few batches of clones.
@shcdemolisher Жыл бұрын
It's less like they're clones and more just easily mass-produced machines to serve as cannon fodder, it's why in the Fall of cybertron, lots of grunts sound the same but have slightly different parts, emphasizing the Mass produced to make the war longer angle. Of course they do have personalities and emotions as we do see that in the game with the autobots mourning the fallen, and putting the wounded into stasis pods because they can't spare the energon/resources to patch them up, reminding you that they're losing... badly.

I think it's interesting you bring this up, because in the comics we see that there is rampant prejudice on Cybertron regarding those who are forged from the All Spark (born from the energy of the planet) and those who are "cold constructed", meaning their bodies are manufactured by existing Cybertronians and they are embodied as needed. I feel like the Autobot mistreatment of the Vehicons might stem from the same cultural concepts of "do cold constructed bots have a "real" soul or not", which is explored in the comics a bit and you can read more on the TF Wiki if you want. But it definitely seems like a lot of Cybertronian culture was all around toxic; We see the hyper militarised attitude in Ultra Magnus when he shows up in the series, which evidently was drilled into a lot of bots who were deemed "worthy" of service to the Senate in Iacon, which is also where Orion Pax and Ratchet as well as Megatron were all based immediately pre-war. It's especially interesting that Ratchet (while hopped up on an inhibition lowering substance) tortures the Vehicon. It's generally depicted that what he's on is just bringing out the most extreme of what elements of his personality are already there; You'd think torturing a Vehicon might be at the very least a violation of his medical ethics programming, as it is implied in the wider lore that Ratchet was made specifically to be a medical bot with hands specifically suited to spot welding (the equivalent to stitches and suturing), and that there is somewhat of an imperative embedded in bots with a purpose (Functionism was a cultural, social, and political system on Cybertron). But instead, Ratchet immediately starts flash welding the poor Vehicon's face shield, no hesitation. It's worth noting that in the wider lore, empurata is a surgical procedure performed on bots who are seen to betray cultural norms or legal restrictions, resulting in the amputation of their hands and removal of their faces. So if those are the medical ethics Ratchet has, as that is the system he was created into on Cybertron and presumably that has an effect on his hard wiring/ethics protocols, no wonder he just jumps right in to torturing a perceived enemy bot. It also helps show why the Autobots are so revolutionary; While Megatron and Optimus both want the same thing (a new society with wider equity for all bots), Megatron was playing more into the expected role of his class on Cybertron, where Optimus rejected those methods and wanted more radical social change (not just political and cultural change). If Optimus is the lynchpin keeping the team's morals straight, and he has to convince a drugged out Ratchet not to BURN SOMEONE'S FACE OFF similar to the empurata procedures of punishment, it makes you wonder...

Even though he doesn't have a face, Soundwave somehow felt less expressive than even the Vehicons. Not just because of his silence, but the way he postures himself, the way he stares down an opponent. Shockwave might be a compulsive pragmatist driven by logic, but he shows fear and has emotional reactions at times (at least in TFP). Soundwave gives off this chilling, psychopathic energy. Even though he is faceless, the same as the Vehicons, they seem to possess more life and more soul than one of their high-ranking superiors. It's such a fascinating detail that so many faceless characters can exist (Shockwave, Soundwave, the myriad Vehicons) and yet some of these faceless beings are more alive than others. And the fact that these low-ranking drones are more alive than their superior is genuinely frightening. And it oddly humanized the Vehicons. Nameless soldiers at the service of psychopaths and tyrants who are willing to sacrifice all of them for their own purposes.

War is the consequence of having different sides who consider that they differ in points of view about a certain situation, and also considerate they cannot live together in harmony, therefore, they appeal on violence to satisfy their objectives. But even in the most gruesome, terrorific and brutal of the battlefronts, I believe that the key to be a good soldier is to not take rejoice in the kills one produces. I also believe that's what makes the ideal of an autobot in war; just someone who is willing to protects others, and even if that involves violence, he or she should never enjoy taking a life. From I have seen here, the autobot who less violates that rule should be Optimus Prime. He takes the war as a serious task, not as a game, and does not rejoice in the kills he produces (because enjoying something like that is like taking a step further towards "the path of the darkside"). Is just became unfortunate he had to resolve things by sheer force. The ideal autobot should only kill when strictly necessary, or in self-defense. War mostly of the time is not just a plain good vs evil cases, instead, more of a scale of grayness, you can surely find really brutal warlords who are really power-hungry and want to conquer everything by any means necessary like Megatron, and in the other side of the spectrum you will find a vehicon who is just doing his duty. Is he doing it because he trusts the Decepticons´s warmonger cause or just because he was forced to accept it?. No one really knows with certainty. That´s my perspective. Incredible video from your part, I'm forwarding to see similar works of your person. PD: I really dislike too that common soldiers with badass designs are wasted as cannon fodder in most times, but, sometimes, I really think the fault comes from the "Stormtrooper Complex" and the typical plot armor, which standardized in most plots of fiction that in order to develop "heroes" in combat and make them capable of archiving their objectives, the opposing side must have a high casualty rate, and sometimes the enemy wins, but more because of external factors that harm severely the "heroes" (like a traitor in their ranks) or just by pure outnumbering. Is more or less a "necessary evil" in order to most stories to function properly, although I don´t believe it should be always the case. If I was part of the writing cast of the series, I would have maintained the conception of the vehicons of the first season and early episodes; not exactly as deadly as high-class decepticons such as Megatron, Starscream or Shockwave, but not cannon fodder a la Stormtrooper (who also suffer the same case but in SW). I would have tried to make them a possible threat to autobots, someone you know that is not exactly the game boss, but you cannot underestimate.

Here's the thing though, Megatron just appears as a tyrant because of Transformers's bad writing and need to try and paint the Decepticons as "villains" by any means necessary. Megatron and most of the Decepticons were from Kaon, where all the slaves and poor people were, and Megatron happened to be one of those slaves. Kaon sucked, there was no protesting and trying to reach people that would care, retaliating with aggression and violence was literally their only option to gain freedom. Cybertron's society was highly classist and sucked badly, and the Decepticons formed to change that. Not everything can be resolved peacefully, especially not when people don't even see you as a person.

I really did always wonder why the Vehicons were treated as cannon fodder and not actual sentient beings. The only time I can remember when it was brought up was when Ratchet tortured the miner-class one.

I have this habit of comparing the situations of TFP (and the Transformers story in general) to real-life wars, and nothing sparks up that thought process more than when I see the vehicons being killed like it's nothing. Whenever we talk about real wars, like for example WWII, we always remember the big players' names - much like how we emphasize that the named bots in the series get more attention and written as fleshed out characters because they *are* the highlight of the show. However, unlike real life, Vehicons that are killed in battle - or fake it - aren't recognized for their efforts in the war. Breakdown has always seemed to me like that one general who actually pays attention to the troops, even when not in battle. I agree when I first watched the show, I found that most vehicons were mostly comedic effect and as a moment to display the Autobot's badass-ery. But it hits different now that I watch the show with that mindset. Then again - this *is* a fictional story, with fictional characters in their own universe. However, if we can spot the humanity (er, human-like aspects) amongst the Autobots and Decepticons - who's to say that the Vehicons don't have the same qualities as the stars of the show?
@autotune18352 жыл бұрын
Very well-written! That’s a very thoughtful comparison between Vehicons being overlooked and real-life small nations being overlooked in real wars. If I remember right, Africa was some involved in WWII, but who talks much about their efforts, or any heroic fighters from that region? That’s just like how Vehicons might accomplish significant goals - like rebuilding an entire SPACE BRIDGE - and still, did anyone pay attention to those Vehicons, or respect them more for their effort? I don’t expect people to treat every single character of a show, or all people in life, with their full attention and great emotional responses. Who is capable of doing that for every person? But it’s indeed interesting to me that this entire group of sentient beings are usually completely overlooked despite any major contributions they provide. Why prestige encourages more attention than the actual effort given.

Breakdown was the only one who somewhat cared about them yet (bear with me) Breakdown was also one of the only main Decepticon deaths in the show. It’d be funny if it’s like Taboo to care about the Drones and it makes you unlucky considering what happens to Breakdown throughout the show all the way until his death.

Star wars. Their basically the same thing. Copy and pasted "cannon fodder" that had personalities, people they cared about, and the will to live. But everyone sees them as nothing more then tools, but once in awhile there's 1 person that befriends them and they respect them. If I remember correctly there was a Jedi in the clone wars that did this and his group of clones named their group after him

15:13 This "silver" Jet Vehicons were released as toys by Takara Tony in japan under a name of "Vehicon General", so technically that makes them better than standard ones because we don't have any reason to think that character description on the boxes are not canon.

@@emperorkumquat Maybe you're right. The fact is I haven't known English at that time. (and probably've already done some mistakes, even though my skills have greatly increased).
