Gallienus also had the god of war on his coins mars holding the spear and olive branch symbolic of victory and peace bringing. Gallienus held rome together for 15 years while mostly fighting in wars with germanic tribes and curpt snakes in the grass trying to usurp him in Rome. He did pretty well and advanced soliders in his army and gave them high rank and command that roman political community hated and created resentment.

I agree, and depsit all he did ppl just remember the formation of the gallic empire and say that Gallienus was a "do nothing" while its not true =( i am pretty confident what he did was important and that claudius II and aurelian took the benefit of his work afterward it is mostly true for the gallic empire which fell in pieces by itself, and the Palmyrenian empire was able to broke away because Hallienus got assassinated which is irony when you considere it is claudius and aurelian who assassinated him =/ i really think that if Gallienus was still in charge all that happenned under aurelian and claudus would still happen considering they were part of his inner circles of comanders

In a time of chaos Gallienus with Emperors coming and going eves other year was a Oasis of stability. He was Emperor for 15 years which is far longer then any other Emperor of that time frame (crisis of the 3rd centenary).
