Additional Interesting facts about Armenia: 1. Hayastan is the Armenian name for Armenia, derived from the Haya people who were present even before the formation of Urartu. 2. Around the year 405 AD the Armenian linguist Mesrop Mashtots developed the unique Armenian alphabetic script still used today. Հայաստանի Հանրապետություն Hayastani Hanrapetut’yun 3. Classical Armenian contains loanwords from Parthian, Greek, Syriac, Latin and other languages such as ancient Uratian.

@Jamal Gold The Urartu evolved out of confederations of "the kings of Nairi" which spoke multiple languages. The Urartian state language is closely related the the Hurrian languages in the south...but although it was the state language there were several languages spoken by the population of the Kingdom/Empire. I believe the direct link between ancestry and language spoken is a tenuous one. There are numerous cases from ancient to modern times of a people adopting a different language. A great example is Aramean/Aramaic which became an incredibly widespread language in recorded history because of its utilitarian ease of use compared to the more complex languages of the near east that had proceeded it. Millions of people not descended at all from the Arameans adopted that language and abandoned their mother tounges over time. When one tries to reconstruct a language (especially in a time before writing) and ascribe a particular ancestry to that group, this contains a greater degree of speculation than fact.

I admire how Armenians keep their culture alive. Armenian families in Iran mostly came to central part of Iran during the Persian Safavid King Shah Abbas. Every Armenian I knew, after all these years spoke and wrote in Armenian besides Persian. The rest of Iranians in foreign lands lose their language and culture in one generation and melt into the pot. We wish our children could read Ferdosi, Rumi, Sa'di and Hafez but few do. Long live Armenia. Love from a Persian.
@arinnahapatian85675 жыл бұрын
The Iranian-Armenians did not "come" to Iran voluntarily. Shah Abbas wanted a new capitol. Armenians were famous as skilled architects and builders for millennia. Shah Abbas forcefully deported 100-250k Armenians from the Nakhichvan region to Persia in the 1500s, and we built for him his new capitol of Isfahan. As a consequence, Nakhichvan, which is historically part of the Armenian heartland, was depopulated of Armenians. Azeris began to move in and filled the void. By the 1850s, Nakhichavan was 60% Azeri and 40% Armenian. Following the Armenian Genocide (1915-1923) and Stalin's decision to gift Nakhichevan to Azerbaijan, there are no Armenians left in the territory as of today. My family consists of Armenians from Iran. Ones who had lived in Iran for nearly 500 years after being forcefully deported by Abbas. Although Armenians were highly respected and successful in pre-revolution Iran, we never forgot how and why were were brought to an alien land. We will also never forget the territorial devastation Abbas's policies created for hundreds of years following his death.

@CrossWood Productions as an Armenian, this is widely not true...Armenians have lived throughout the Middle East centuries before the genocide
@Ziadalabbady5 жыл бұрын
@CrossWood Productions You have no idea what you are talking about.
@dtab2765 жыл бұрын
@CrossWood Productions You said they "never" lived there. I said, they have lived there throughout history. Armenians have lived in Islamic Egypt for centuries...as an Armenian whose grandfather was born in Egypt. The Fatimid calculations are up to 100,000, and Armenians had relative peace under the dynasty. For example, Armenian mercenaries helped conquer Cairo, and later resettled in the region, and many Armenian princes and politicians worked in the Egyptian court. Nubar Nubarian later became the FIRST prime minister of Egypt in 1876. In Persia, Armenians make up the largest Christian minority. Even if we neglect Persian annexation of the Caucasus, there was a major Armenian population in Persia Proper in Isfahan called New Julfa since the 1600's. Many Persian diplomats to Europe were of Armenian origin. In the 1800's, the Persian Imam called for the restoration of dozens of Armenian churches. I assume I don't have to go into further detail about Armenians in the Levant and Anatolia, since it's a given that Armenians have lived in Lebanon, Israel, Syria, Turkey, and Palestine for many centuries before the genocide, and my Iraqi friend above already made it known that Armenians lived in Iraq. In fact, Armenians lived in Iraq since Babylon and the Safavid King Abbas the Great created a community of Armenians in Iraq since 1604. To further emphasize the fact that Armenians have always been cosmopolitan, the oldest church in Singapore still in use is Armenian, since 1836. Church in Bangladesh since 1781. Armenians have lived in India for centuries (the Mughal King Akbar the Great had an Armenian wife, Armenian chief justice, and Armenian physician) and Kabul. Armenians even had trade colonies as far as Poland, Bulgaria, and, China. Our historical relationship with Muslims have always been up and down. There were times that we were attacked by Muslims and times they have given us peace and even friendship. Usually, the Arabs and Persian Muslims were kind to us, my grandfather even calls the Persians "our most kindest enemy." Under Turkish Muslims, we had a harder times, but even under Ottomans we had eras of prosperity and peace prior to 1800's. We have always been friendly with Muslims when they offer friendship, and enemy if they declared war on us. But I think this is true for any minority who has lived in any empire ever. There were times in Europe when Jews and gypsies were accepted, and times when not. That's reality, and I can't be mad about that.

You are absolutely right my friend. Only azerbaijanians tell bullshit about their history. Whole world knows that before 1918 there was never independent Azerbaijan. And current lands of country were Arran and Shirvan. Real historical Adrbadagan(Adrbaijan) was in North part of current Iran. And shouther of Arax. And also the name Aderbaijan was appeared after Arabic attack to these lands. Word Aderbaijan itself is Iranian from name of Kingdom Atropatena. Greetings to our Iranian brothers and sisters 🇦🇲🤜🤛🇮🇷

A few corrections: 1) We never converted to Zoroastrianism. We had our own pagan beliefs. The Sassanid Persians fought a war against Christian Armenia to force us to convert to Zoroastrianism. Personally, I think both sides were silly to fight. Christianity and Zoroastrianism are both peaceful Monotheistic religions. Stupid politics again ruining good things. 2) You failed to mention the events of 1915 as the Armenian Genocide. The Ottoman Turks use the excuse of Armenians supporting the Russians, but the truth is that they wanted to create a Pan-Turkic empire that stretches from Turkey all the way to the Eastern Central Asia, and unfortunately Armenia was the Christian nation that was in between them and the rest of the Central Asian countries. They wanted to execute every last Armenian on the planet and to bring our ancient civilization to extinction. 3) You also failed to include Karabagh and the war between Armenia and Azerbaijan, including the Pogroms of Sumgait in 1988.

But Armenians also supported Russians and made massacres in Turkish villages. You can't just simply ignore that fact. PS: I'm not trying to justify Armenian Genocide, just saying that we should also recognize the other side of the story as well.

@@ArthaxtaDaVince777 well for starter he was raised by greek nuns (because they were the ones who saved him from the purge that was being done to his family), that's why he was a christian. On behalf of his name, he might have been named Gregor because maybe the nuns didn't know his true name and named him Gregor (I mean Gregor sounds pretty western name compared to Armenian names). And on the behalf of him speaking Armenian, my guess is that he became a missonary and started to learn Armenian to travel there. There is low chance for the nun to have known Armenian so he must have learned it from somewhere else.
