Hi! You're in the recommended tab now. There is a lot of mis-information beimg spread so let me set things straight. Level 1 port gives 30 goods capacity, level 2 give 60, level 3 gives 120, level 4 gives 240. Taxes on the rich will lower your wealth which in the long term reduces your taxes. Taxes on the lower class slows down city growth which means you can't build new workshops, universities etc. Government tab: as a constitutional monarchy you will have elections every 10 turns. You can fire ministers to get a random replacement. The ministers shown at the bottom are the ones you will get if you loose the election. You can move your ministers inbetween the different branches of your government. If you want to know more just ask ahead. I read quite a few guides and have 1000+ hours on the game.

Each time I make 2 large fleets, one to block the channel, and 2 to choke Gibraltar. Limits most countries from accessing trade areas. Then I buildseveral fleets of Indiamen and control all the trade areas. Also, it's important to at least blockade the pirate ports, as they can wipe out your traders easily with Galleons. Becaus you have a navy stopping France from invading England, you can save money on troops and have smaller armies. When Spain eventually declares war on you, take that opportunity to capture and hold gilbraltar. You can also blockade and raid French/Spanish ports to prevent their flow of money. If the dutch are defeated, Ceylon will become a rebel Island, so you can capture it easily, and gain a foothold into invading India. With Pirates under control, that's the time to start gaining control of the caribean and gain access to resources and trade there. You can average pretty large net profits per turn at this pace, so when you decide to start invading Europe, NA and India, you can afford pretty much anything. It's pretty difficult to be beaten with this strategy

You asked for tips about the government tab- do NOT increase your taxes, especially on the middle class! Increasing the taxes on your middle class will, among other things, stifle your growth, which controls how quickly your provinces/territories create new towns. I usually LOWER my taxes on the middle class on the first turn, and if you have the town info tab opened on any town where the province/territory still has a town to produce, you can see the "next town developing" in the bottom left corner of the tab go down drastically when you lower taxes on the middle class. For instance, on Turn 1 when playing GB, if you open the town tab of any town in England province, you will see that the next town developing is Liverpool in 27 turns; if you then open the government tab and lower taxes on the middle class 1 notch from 3 of 5, down to 2 of 5, you will see Liverpool is now developing in 11 turns; if you turn the taxes up 1 notch instead (as the video suggests) from 3 of 5 up to 4 of 5, you will see that the bottom left message is now "villages are not growing." The sooner that you do lower your taxes, the better, because growing your provinces to have max towns gives you the most powerful economy possible for each nation. If you do what I do, you won't even miss the money that you would lose by lowing taxes. For the first several turns (4-8) do your best not to produce any units, and to focus all spending on building up buildings; you can usually move your starting units around quickly enough to reinforce the needed areas without having to build more troops for a while. Just focus on first building and upgrading economic buildings (farms, smiths, weavers, fur, plantations, etc.) and then schools. The first few turns you will lose some money, because you lowered taxes, and the economic buildings you are building take a few turns to complete; once they do, however, you will begin to see your money creep back up. If you build units, you will lose money every turn, and it will be that way until the die or are disbanded; at least by building buildings and lowering taxes, you income recovers after a few turns, and you will start to also have new towns popping up much more quickly. I also usually make sure to have at least 2 schools operating, even if that means destroying some other building to do so (usually a church). After you have upgraded your economic and school buildings as much as possible in the provinces that you own (2-9 provinces to start), usually 4-8 turns have passed, and your income has recovered to its starting position, even though you lowered taxes on the middle class in every theater. Now is the time to build a small invasion force, to conquer the pirate islands; I usually avoid declaring war on a country in the beginning, so they are one faction I can invade and conquer without having to worry about upsetting allies or creating enemies. If someone declares war on me in the beginning, I try to get out of it quickly. It is only after I destroy all the pirates that I declare war, and only on small nations (1-3 provinces) that I can quickly conquer. Throughout the game, I usually try to avoid wars that I do not declare, and only declare war on nations that have at least 3 less provinces that I do at the time. Also, once I've played the first 4-8 turns and have built up my buildings to max, I usually have a pattern of 2-3 to 1 turn set up, with 2-3 turns spent upgrading buildings, and then 1 turn to build troops- unless something forces me to adapt, like someone declaring war on me and not being willing to negotiate out of it. By turn 45, you should have continued to lower your taxes on both classes; the middle class should be at the lowest (1 of 5), and the upper class should be at the second lowest (2 of 5); as you lower them, lower middle class first, then bring upper class down to even with middle, and then lower the middle again. Usually, I lower taxes when I reach 10k income- if you follow my system, that will happen over and over again, even though you are continuously lowering your taxes. Basically, you are always adding new provinces, creating new towns in the province, and upgrading those towns, so it is constantly raising your income; if you do the 2-3 to 1 system, you won't build too many units too quickly, before the buildings have a chance to complete and provide income enough to be able to afford the troops you are building/maintaining. I am usually going to war every 7-10 turns; once my armies are in position, I declare war, and usually destroy the faction in the first 1-4 turns; I usually conquer their provinces, build them up for 4-7 turns, then build each their own defense force (up to that point, I leave the invading forces there to maintain Public Order), and finally I move the invasion force into position to attack the next country. The invasion force starts as 10 troops, but then grows to 20; I also start with one force, and by mid-game I usually have 3 or 4 forces. Also, don't take more than 4 provinces at a time in war, because that will also help regulate your income vs spending/upkeep. If you take too many provinces in 1 turn by ending a war, it will take a long time to build up those towns (like if you take 10 provinces at once), so you won't be able to maintain your war schedule of conquering, building new provinces up for ten turns, and then move on to the next war; you also likely won't have enough troops to occupy those province capitals while you build them up, so you will then face rebellions. My system is all about balancing/moderation, and steady but staggered growth (the number of provinces/towns, your income, your military/navy, etc.). Anyway, you asked for tips because the thing you know the least is government tab stuff, so I wanted to correct you on how raising taxes is actually a bad idea, and lowering them is much better- the rest was just me explaining how you are able to lower them without going bankrupt. It is very rare that I increase taxes, and that usually still only involves raising them back to 2 of 5, or back to the starting position of 3 of 5; and I only do that if I am several turns into a war with one of the 3 major powers (GB, France, Spain), and they wont negotiate out of it. Otherwise, if you use the strategy that I do, halfway through the game you can earn over 10k a turn, while maintaining the lowest taxes.

Government Tab: You have your ministers but below ministers "in waiting". You can replace the ministers with any of those in waiting by simply dragging the portrait to whatever slot you want. If you pick a guy with the appropriate bonuses you can really boost your economy etc

I haven't played in a while, but I believe you can only "hand pick" the ministers if you are a straight Monarchy. I believe any of the representative type governments, you have to "kick" them and they are randomly replaced. I could be mistaken though.

In every game of Empire I played, the Thirteen Colonies always merge with Britain - same for New Spain merging with Spain and Lousiana merging with France. Having never played any of these countries, I was really wondering how that happens. This is so cool!

So if you aren't playing as GB, France, or Spain around turn 4 their colonies are automatically absorbed into the parent nation as if they had completed the mission you get while playing those nations.

What I should do (other than asking someone knowledgeable) is first check the mission success conditions, to see if they're in conflict with eachother (is it possible for all three nations to achieve their missions); if they aren't, then play a game as another nation and observe if the AI players fulfill the missions.

I'm late but you don't want to raise taxes to much. It will lower population growth. So over time you will earn more tax revenue due to more population to tax. Raising taxes helps only in the short term. When you look at the region tab you will see factors in population growth or decline so you can adjust to accordingly.

Also, population growth leads to the creation of new cities, which is an opportunity to build useful/profitable stuff - for example, some regions (Mysore, Panama, Guatemala, New Andalusia) don't have trading ports, so the commercial goods produced there can't be exported until you allow one of the villages to grow into a port.

I would love this setting but with the improved gameplay from Napoleon. Having the foot soldiers look more like real men when they get hit, hearing the rank and file talking to one another and drill sergeants screaming at the private’s in the ranks, having firing be less awkward and less like a struggle to get the proper ruthless rank fire that made Britain into an empire to be feared. Truly an awesome setting with so much versatility but truly let down by gameplay that Napoleon really capitalised on

I find the British the easiest to play. Start an alliance with the Ottomans and trade with everyone. Build your navy with 4th rates. Start by wiping out the pirates in the West Indies. And wipe out the blue Indians in America and assault India. Toast the religious school in Oxford and build a second University. Don't over-extend. Don't do anything stupid and always fight defensive battles, unless you have overwhelming superiority. It isn't hard to take all of America and most of SA and the WI, and all of India. If you are playing the campaigns the only really tricky territories are Gibralter and Egypt. The only country that is as easy are the Russians.

Never played as Britain, but yeah, they start the game already on top of the world so I never really saw the point. I found Russia ridiculously hard to play because of having to resist the Ottoman Empire and Sweden, but that was back when I was a dumb kid so I'll take your word for it. United Provinces is impossible to play unless you get a good alliance with Wesphalia, I found that out the hard way - if you do get that alliance, then you still have to take and hold Flanders against Spain and France while taking and holding Carnactica against the very powerful and determined Maratha Confederacy. The Marathas themselves are fun to play because elephants, seriously.

Lowering taxes on nobles increases wealth per turn for all cities and lowering taxes on the middle classes speeds up the development of new city plots for building churches, schools etc. I know that late game that if I keep my taxes at second to lowest on nobles that my cities can easily make over 10k a piece. As for ministers, I believe absolute Monarchy allows you to drag opposing ministers to fill in your current ministers. Unfortunately Britain is a constitutional monarchy and can only boot 1 minister per turn and the game randomly fills in one of the opposing ministers, unfortunately you can receive random garbage for a minister as a replacement.

You need an even lower tax for the poor, the nobles may go against you, but their armies take longer to spawn, and they are easily pleased, but having a peasant revolt is really a pain, they spawn army after army.

I don't agree, tax the poor! The only provinces where public order becomes a real issue, is provinces with universities, and they are not so many. Clamour for reform only affects school provinces. Growth to get new towns are nice, but after they are all filled out, growth is pointless.

Yeah, but that is pointless in a early conquered province, sometimes take ages to things calm down, and the nobles always give you a list of demands way ahead of the peasants, but at difference from them, if you meet most of their demands, they stay quiet, the peasants, no, it take longer and more work for them began to accept the new regime, so they would revolt and spawn army after army, after army, sometimes take years to finally quiet down a province, having a priest is useful, to get things faster, but not always effective.

heres the thing,rebellions in paris were the exact problem. I had taken the entire region in only one year. but paris seemed to have a nationalism problem.Just this morning I got both the nobility and the poor at neutral.I had to exempt france from taxes for 30 years to get them neutral.

Yes! Whenever you take a region that is the homeland of a nation (France, Spain, England, Austria, etc), the "resistance to foreign occupation" stat will be much higher than anywhere else. There's no trick I know of, just leave a big army in the capital, weather several revolutions and just accept that your buildings will get damaged by riots for a while. Personally, I didn't particularly want to invade France, but they left Paris unprotected so it was tempting... Once I captured it, the resistance was huge as expected, but there also where big french and spanish armies nearby. Not wanting to deal with that, what did I do? Sold France to my ally Westphalia. When a region peacefully changes hands, there is no popular unhappiness, so that was gone; but also, Westphalia at that moment was at war with neither France nor Spain, so all of their armies were immediately flushed out to Savoy. I cackled. Neat little exploit I found to seriously damage a rival while not having to bother with stabilising the conquered region

You set unit size in the options on the main menu. It will then affect future campaigns, not current ones.

When America became independent In my game I immediately took out the nation as Great Britain. I sent gifts so they are happy with me but apparently America’s just a dick. Hey man. Yeah m8 the campaign map runs well it's the siege battles thing running at 60fps but still choppy to the extent it's unplayable. It's a well established optimization issue that CA either didn't have the know how or perhaps the integrity to address. Real shame such a good title, I would love them to fix this I would still play it.

When you are playing with the Western powers ones reach to certain side, most of the European countries declare war to you, ones I finish the initial challenge of my Prussian campaign, Sweden, Austria, Russia and Spain declared war to me, and if you fight as a native American faction in the DLC; non of the western powers are willing to give peace even if you defeat them and conquer most of their lands, because European have huge egos and false sense of superiority, if they grant you peace they want part of your land in exchange, as if they deserve it.

I don't think Empire deals well with multi core processors, it relies heavily on the speed of a single core. So best way is just have a CPU with 3.5 + Ghz.

would be cool to never conquer any major factions home territories, could attack France in late game, take Paris but give it back, dont destroy the faction, only have proxy wars around the world so you always have strong enemies and never just boringly steamroll, also invading small territories like the crimean war or temporarily capture port settlements to force countries to pay you the big bucks for you to leave or smaller personnel objectives would be cool to see, introduce some nice story

Not sure I want the campaign to take longer than it needs to with the World Domination. Your idea I think would better suit a shorter campaign with less objectives for victory.

No worries, its just every single empire lets play goes exactly the same way, immediately dominating mainland Europe countries that were historically big rivals for centuries is boring and anyway who cares about ending the series only once the games set goals are complete, make your own goals.
