I finally got to the end of this video, and please thank Joe - and you - for discussing the supposed fragility of your body. I had similar worries/fears with my wife too. A lil different for CP vs SCI, as it is more about stiffness of parts of her body, but certainly the same fear of popping a shoulder/elbow/wrist out of joint, and worrying about how her arm was placed. I love my wife, and it’s been 42 wonderful years of marriage. Thanks Brittney and Joe!

I saw one of your other videos and wondered how you were travelling through life. I am delighted to see how complete your life is, a beautiful part of a loving family. Every one has ups and down, your 'down' was far deeper than most people's, but your personality won. No wonder, your husband is a lucky man, and knows the fact. Most people have lucky breaks and bad breaks, I was lucky my spinal issues were treated in time allowing me to walk unaided again; my wife's cancers were twice treated in time, the third time not so lucky, but we had nearly 48 years of married life. With your attitude, personality, and energy, you look set for a bright future together. People often dwell on what I shall politely term the 'biological consequences' of eating and living, they should remember those consequences are part of being alive and deal with the matter. You eloquently showed how perfectly you accepted the need for solutions, preventing needs from being a problem. Live life to the full, seek out, and employ solutions to avoid problems, the alternative is worse.

Great video as usual. I love her attitude, openess, and confidence. In response to a wheelchair being an issue in deciding to start a relationship, I can see that it's something that both people would have to discuss as you both said. But when you think about it, or when I think about it, your not dating the chair, your dating the person in the chair. If you have feelings or love that person the chair should not matter. What if the injury occurred after marriage. I would hope the other person wouldn't leave because of the chair. And as we get older we are all going to have some condition that will require our spouse to help out. That's just part of aging being married. Hope this makes sense.
@EmpoweredPara Жыл бұрын
Makes complete sense! I think you're right, the chair shouldn't be a factor. The difference with dating and marriage is that if the injury happens after you're married you have already made those vows. With dating the person gets to decide if they want to make the vows. I would hope that the wheelchair wouldn't scare someone away but in reality it does. luckily there are good people out there that don't get scared away.

Looking at my own situation and experiences, worrying about what to do 30-40 years down the road is useless. You can both start out perfectly healthy and “able” but, as we all know, excrement occurs and before you know it one of you is in special circumstances. A friend of mine who is not very healthy to begin with, fell down some stairs, shattered her knee and has had her leg amputated above the knee. Her husband is a really great guy who loves her to bits and he now has a lot to deal with but love conquers all (more or less).

The farting thing had me laughing so hard! That was great! The second or third time my girlfriend spent the night with me(8 years together now), I tried making browned butter with garlic. I didn't get the garlic cooked enough, and as a result we both had the most tremendous garlic gas. Wake up in the middle of the night to pee and the bedroom smelled of garlic farts. We laugh about it now, but it was a really good way to break the ice on that particular subject. Bodies are bodies, they all have bodily functions.

I used to be a bit awkward around "handicapped" people until I became one. Before my injury I was completely "capable" in a physical sense. I'm a mechanic, carpenter, outdoorsman, etc, and really loved participating in sports, especially tennis. I used to ride wheelies on my Honda CBR900RR just for fun. I happened to be on that bike when I crossed paths with a careless driver that changed my life big-time. That was 21 years ago, the same year the towers went down in NYC. I'm no longer awkward around "handicapped" people because I'm quite experienced at being one now. I guess what I'm trying to say is that we shouldn't look at others with disabilities as though they had the plague, because you could easily find yourself in this position at no fault of your own. Take care you two! Hope you have many happy fulfilled years together, supporting each other no matter what comes your way. God bless!!!

I was sooooo awkward around people with disabilities before I was paralyzed. And even after I was paralyzed I was awkward for a few years. I didn't feel like I belonged in the disability world. So glad I got over that and made disability a part of my new identity. Game changer

@@EmpoweredPara I didn't learn until my injury that I'm not the fallible shell that can no longer defy gravity, but I'm the eternal being (ghost in the machine) that's living a temporal experience in this Physical realm. Billions have physically come and gone before we were born in the flesh and this will continue indefinitely, but none are lost as we all return to the Father upon our departure from this tabernacle. I can't say that I understand what happens at that point, as I don't yet have experience in that realm, but I'm certain that we all return to the Being that we're made in the image and likeness of. I learn more each day of how awesome we are and also the lengths that some will go in hiding these Truths from us. The TRUTH TRULY SETS FREE! God bless you and your family Britney!!! ❤️
