This is an important conversation for Black mothers. I am so proud of Kim. We met when there was only a handful of Black Doulas in the country, and we were among them. I've always loved her work ethic and her energy. I retired from Doula work in 2018, but I'm still an advocate for Black mothers everywhere.

Low income get resources. High income can pay out of pocket. It's the middle class that end up suffering. (Regarding the maternal resources discussed around 30 min)

I think woman prior to having babies need to ENSURE that they have a village or network available to assist prior to having children! It's also important that women of color seek therapy prior to having kids so they can heal their own childhood traumas. As therapy can shine light on their own human experience before bringing another human into this world. Knowledge is POWER ❤❤❤

Racism plays a huge part in the mortality rate of black women in childbirth. Ex: black people don’t feel pain or that we are lying about pain.
