Thank you for the reaction. "Eyes without a face" is meaning someone who only sees with their eyes the outer shell of a person. But never looks any deeper into a person. Never looks at their character, personality, or their heart. Meaning, they only look at good looks, nice clothes, wealth and possessions. They see nothing else.

Empress great reaction as usual......Les Yeux Sans Visage (Eyes Without a Face) is the title to a chillingly horrific yet classically poetic 1960 film from acclaimed French director Georges Franju. In it, a gifted plastic surgeon is involved in a near fatal auto accident which horribly disfigures the once beautiful face of his beloved daughter. Along with his assistant, he abducts young women so that he may surgically remove their facial features and graft their beauty onto that of his daughter's grotesque countenance........The song "Eyes Without a Face" uses similar imagery for effect. However, he tackles the concept of the modern romance and uses the same metaphors the movie used to show the absence of humanity and how cold and callous the modern world has grown to be. All that we (in the song's case "we" have the role of the narrator) have endured getting here has made us like the doctor. While the daughter has become eyes without a face (she wears a mask a la Halloween's Michael Myers and the only visible part of her face are her eyes), the doctor has become a face without eyes. He has blinded himself to the hideousness that he has involved himself, his family, and his poor victims in. .

Best description I've seen yet about this song, well done Frikster! Let me ask you something about the woman at the end of the video in the tight dress. Obviously this is meant to be the woman he's singing about and the tight dress and smug look seem to be appropriate. I've always thought that her getting hit with what looks like a stream from a firehose is symbolic of all of the bad karma she has created for herself coming back all at once forcing her to finally deal with the consequences of her actions. thoughts??

Hi Pa, here in the US this song was on the charts and got lots of airplay during the Summer of 84, we definitely did not hear it during 83. Were you in the UK in 83? If so that would make sense, UK set the trends for the US back in the 80s.

the part of the video that gets faster when he walks down the stairs he is talking about this girl he used to love and what she did to him; she took a bus to vegas; grabbed some giglos etc. and what he went through; he was on a bus reading murder books trying to stay hip and she was out there and say your prayers like she wasn't thinking of him etc. it's a great song! i'm glad you like it. you should try flesh for fantasy on here or, cradle of love, to be a lover, can't break me down (newer song).

Billy Idol would sometimes emulate Elvis Presley and his twisted smirk. I believe he is talking about a person that may have led him (or someone else) to a life of drugs and meaningless sex... the crazy lifestyle of a rock and roller that some succumbed to.

I think it's been covered, the meaning is twofold. First, on a surface level it's an homage to a French horror movie from the 1960s. A doctor who has a beautiful daughter frets as she is mangled in a car wreck. He takes it upon himself to murder women with beautiful "parts" of the face and he surgically tries to restore his daughter with said parts. On a deeper level Billy is lashing out at unfaithful lover who has jerked him around while teasing him and how she is about to get what she has coming. 5:08 That is meant to be the lying unfaithful girlfriend. Notice her cocky, overconfident demeanor at first but then she is hit with what I think is meant to be a stream of bad karma that knocks her over and knocks her right off of her high horse.
