Babyface produced some of the best R&B ballads to ever exist. It's a shame that kind of music seems to be lacking in the charts nowadays.

Love old school Toni so much. So smooth and soothing. I gotta listen to her first couple of albums more. She's so underrated these days. Everyone remembers Whitney, Mariah, Celine as the vocal divas of the 90s but Toni often gets forgotten to mention. Tbh i think she might be my favorite. Her music style suits me the most.

This song was the second single of her self-titled album. This song was her first international hit in 1993-1994 and introduced her in Europe and the rest of the world (japan, Australia, etc.) and was her first top 5 in Billboard Hot 100 in 1993. Because she was a already know in US with few hits (Love Shoulda Brought You Home and Give U My Heart) before she released the first album and the first single ''Another Sad Love Song'' . But the worldwide discover her with this second single of the album who this song was one of her most successful singles of her career. This song was produced by Babyface, like the rest of the album. The self-titled album was very danced oriented and RnB with many ballads in this album (like ''Breathe Again'') and like very well this album with many gems like this, ''I Belong to You'' and ''Love Affair''

Any track Babyface is on just has that signature touch of his. He was on a roll in the 80s and 90s with nonstop fire bops 🔥 Of course, all things lead back to Madonna 😂 The following year after this was released came Madonna's song "Take a Bow", with Babyface yet again on production, writing, and background vocals. Madge's longest charting number 1 hit 💖

I like to call classic Toni Braxton ballads like this "Uptown Soul". To me it sounds like, smooth, sophisticated, soul from the city, proving that attractive, successful, professionals can have the blues.

At the time this song was recorded, Jane Austen films were popular at the box office. This song was done in the tone of the overly dramatic Regency period characters. Some younger people aren’t being taught about the regency period or Jane Austen in school so a lot of them don’t pick up on the reference. This was her highest charting song from her debut album, but that album did not have a bad song. Just about any song from that album could’ve been released as a single.

Wow, I forgot how great this song is. My mother was in LOVE with this song when it came out, so I always associate it with her when I was in 7th grade. But re-listening to it, it made me fall in love with Toni's vocals all over again. We all love to praise our high belting divas (as we should), and Toni can definitely belt, but her lower register is just something else! Smooth as butter, especially in the verses. Now I wanna go back and listen again too!
