Ich bin als Ex-Berliner, bereits mehrfach mit dem NJ 457 Berlin-Vienna und Vienna- Berlin im Schlafwagen Deluxe mit Dusche und WC im Abteil gefahren, leider durch die Pandemie wurde der NJ vor rüber gehend eingestellt, ich freue mich schon sehr auf die wieder Inbetriebnahme ende Mai 2021, da werde ich wieder diese Verbindung nutzen. Man spart praktisch 1 Nacht im Hotel in Berlin durch die Nachtfahrt. Das Betreuer Team im Nachtzug ist sehr höflich und erfüllt gerne die Wünsche der Gäste. Bevor es ins Bett geht, gibt man sein Ticket sowie die Frühstücksbestellung beim Betreuer des Schlafwagens ab und gibt bekannt wann man geweckt werden möchte bzw. das Frühstück serviert sollte. Ich war bisher mit dem Service rund um zufrieden.

Security (Ochrona) is for safety, belive me there are some "wise" people out there that can rip you off and you won't notice that. Polish Railways also have their own unit called SOK (Służby Ochrony Kolei= Railway Security Service) which wear more like anti terrorist clothing.

There used to be a night train from Munich via Innsbruck to Rome. This one was awesome. Now that service doesn't exist anymore. Connecting some regional capitals with each other might be a good idea to fill up these trains.

@@HenryMulder53 It's partly up to yourself - or do you believe someone else should decide it for you? I am personally living the old normal 90% of the time every day. I'm eating out every day, supporting the local economy here, I don't wear a mask except when I travel by plane. Everything that's going on now is insane, and the only ones benefiting from it , are pharmaceutical companies selling vaccines that hasn't been tested properly, people speculating in buying up stocks too cheap and eco-fasists, who will just be happy if the entire world will be under permanent lockdown, so they can "save" the rainforest, whales or whatever they value. If you want the old normal back, don't support the "new normal" in any way.

So they're still doing that nearly 2 hour stop at Breclav. I rode the nighttrain several times in 2018 and the endless wait in Breclav was always a bit of a drag.

I feel out of date, last time I was on a sleeper was an old CNL service 485 Lupus from München to Roma where like the couchettes your bed was the seat, only once as it was never worth the price simply to get undressed so I stayed with 4 berth couchttes. These nightjet seem a world apart but there is little mention of the bed or its comfort, can anyone elaborate please?

Really excellent video and I wonder why it has to go to Poland in order to arrive at Wien Hbf from Berlin Hbf. The older route is quicker via Nahverkehr Dresden Elsterwerda-Dresden section because DB BR101 can stay until Dresden Hbf where ÖBB 1216 gets attached from Dresden Hbf to Wien Hbf via Schöna Bodenbach Prag Brünn Lundenburg Nordbahn Route. Rare situations ÖBB1216 goes all the way to Berlin Hbf.

Agreed, 7 am is acceptable, but barely. Even half an hour longer would be so much more agreeable to arrive. No business meeting is going to start before 8 am at the earliest... And let's hope this Corona nightmare is soon over, or at least, most restrictions lifted for this Spring and Summer...

I don't think many passengers would mind waiting say half an hour longer in Breclav, the train already has a stop of 99 min there, for decoupling the parts to Bratislava and Budapest and having some buffer. BTW, in weather like the last few days, many flights are also cancelled or heavily delayed...

Question: Is there a restaurant compartment on this train from Berlin to Vienna? Or do you need to bring your own food for dinner? We are in a Private sleeper with shower/toilet. Also in Berlin, is there a lounge to wait in before boarding? Also, do the NightJet people help with luggage and deliver to the room for you? We are on the train in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to it.

Surely a better way of serving the overnight Berlin-Wien market would be to go via Bayern and the Westbahn? Staying on German and Austrian rails would presumably be less complicated than diverting through Poland and Czech Rep. Is this the only overnight train between Berlin and Wien?

@Kyle More the higher track access fees in Germany would make this route uneconomical. But I agree that a later departure in Berlin (or a longer stop somewhere along the route) would be preferable, so that arrival in Vienna would be 30-60 minutes later.

Thanks for sharing. Really enjoyed that video. Would love to do that trip this summer. This trains being the only "hotels" open during pandemic was an eye-opener to me.But in one point I disagree with you. If you had a pleasant and relaxed journey that night it was also because of the Ochrona guys riding this train with you. In the past there were severe cases of robbery and theft in such night trains.Things got much better after they sent security in. Sad but true.

Due to Coronavirus problem with Polish transport is if you cross country by not your own transport (car, bike or by foot), yoy've mandatory 10-day quarantine, so people avoid trains, because after going by your own transport you doesn't have to be in quarantine 😂 It's even quite popular get off train/bus before crossing a country, go by foot through border and get in - the same mean of transport if possible, or now domestic mean of transport XD

"Ochrona" means simply security service and they are hired by PKP IC. I diagree with an author. When I am travelling by PKP IC I feel much safer with them on board. They aren`t doing nothin bad, just helping to improve our saftey.

This is NOT paramilitary group, and have nothing in common with nazis! Imagine that your are going to Mall for shopping. You will see some guys who protect this place. And this is ochrona.

ja, das kostet. da gibts aber wenig andere möglichkeiten um kosten zu sparen, weil der zug im fahrplan aufgenommen ist. solche vereinbahrungen müssen eingehalten werden um nicht verklagt zu werden. währe der zug ein 'sonderzug', gebe es möglichkeiten, den zug einfach einzustellen.

In the seating- compartment you can lift the seats a bit and push them to the middle to make a nearly flat bed. the cheapest way to make this journey. enormaly the ÖBB are famous for the brakefast, sorry 4 you.

When it's empty like this you can save money by booking a bed in a 3-person compartment. It's unlikely you'll end up with strangers in your compartment. I took the nightjet once in 2020 (Linz to Aachen) and found myself with one other person in the compartment who however got out early in the morning so I had the compartment for myself during breakfast. What is Ochrona? Security guys who try to intimidate you and want to keep you from filming?

@@doc7austin In my view, narration makes the video more personal and engaging. It keeps my interest for much longer. I will watch a video to the end when I feel I have a personal relationship with the Vlogger, but without narration, 9 times of 10, I watch halfway if that.

I agree that narration would make the video much better. You can maintain the sounds of the journey and only talk about the important points. For example, you could have gone into detail why you don’t feel safe with the Ochrona on board. We are left confused as to why you made that assessment, but a small narration to explain your views would be helpful. If you feel that people will judge your accent or ability to speak English, don’t let that stop you. If you insist on captions, then can you please post full sentences in the video instead of breaking them up?

Hi there, I have booked OBB Nightjet from Vienna to Berlin in May at Seating cariage, but I didn't chose compartment Coach 2nd class, I chose Comfort Ticket/Flex at Private compartment - exclusively for you or your group(max. 3 adults per compartment). Do you have any idea what the difference is? Is it better? It is a little more expensive than compartment Coach 2nd class(174.5 EUR for 3 seats). We are 3 persons and we want to know if we can enjoy a little rest, bearing in mind that in the normal compartment we can make the seats into beds only if we are the only ones in the compartment of 6. Thanks.
