I imagine Ramin's version as an alternate reality of Les Miserables as one in which Enjolras manages to survive the final battle, but everyone else but Marius is dead. Grantaire too, lies dead as his feet and somehow, the bullets have missed him because the officer just could not shoot him, the flower that sparked the revolution. :(

Thaheera Althaf Olivia Lemke I actually have written an admittedly shitty version with Enjolras singing it: There's a grief that can't be spoken / There's a pain goes on and on / Empty chairs at empty tables / Now my friends are dead and gone / Here we talked of revolution / Here it was I lit the flame / Here we sang about tomorrow / And their tomorrow never came Tears were rolling down his face, and his voice broken, but he carried on From the table in the corner / We all saw a world reborn / And they joined with voices ringing / And I can hear them now / The very words that thry had sung / Became their last communion/ On this lonely barricade, at dawn... He put his head in his hands. He was sobbing now, voice drowned in tears. Oh my friends, my friends forgive me / That I led you to your deaths / There's a grief that can't be spoken / There's a pain that cuts my breath / And the blood that stains the windows / And the bodies on the floor / The empty chairs and empty tables / All were born from my fault / Oh my friends, my friends don't ask me / What your sacrifice was for... Suddenly his voice lost its force. He just couldn't continue. He collapsed back on the chair he didn't realise he stood up from, and the last words of the song came in a whisper, muffled by the violent sobs which shook Enjolras's shoulders. Empty chairs at empty tables / My friends died and it's my fault

To be fair, many other underrated Les Mis stage performers have played almost all the roles of their gender as well. This is specially true for people who performed Les Mis through many years, starting as understudies/covers for various roles. Killian Donelly for example, has played almost all male Les Mis roles except Bishop, Grantaire, Bamatabois, Marius, and Thenardier. I’m still amazed at Ramin as a singer though. I prefer him as Phantom, Enjolras or Marius over Valjean because his voice fits the other mentioned roles more. A Valjean for me must have a really high tenor voice like Colm Wilkinson or Killian Donnelly. On the other hand, both Colm and Killian played the Phantom as well, but they sing better as Valjean

I do feel the emotion he puts into it. I love his broadgrass style. The strings are eerily beautiful, and the 2 drum beats at "revolution" are dramatic. Ramin's voice and tone are incredible! He is one of the most genuine musicians and hard working actors I've followed.

everytime i hear this song i just cant believe that all les amis are dead. i always imagine their faces full of fear before they got shot. i imagine enjolras dying with grantaire. and it hurts so much. like they are fictional but still. i cant believe that this group of boys is dead. they have never hold a gun. they helped people. they are genuine, sincere people and everyone of them has a unique personality. and they are gone. that line "now my friends are dead and gone" gets me everytime. the saddest thing ever
@persephone52815 жыл бұрын
ann marie fictional, yes. But there were real boys that died during this horrifying event that was La Commune de Paris. We remember them, their sacrifice, even though it was for nothing in the eyes of the state, people remember. France is a country of revolutions and we will stand again.

Cornell Cannon Must disagree. I think Michael Ball's performance in the 10th Anniversary edition is my favorite. Nick Jonas really hammed up the whole show at the 25th, Eddie Redmayne was far too subdued in the movie - but Ball just knocked it out of the park, years and years ago. Tons of raw emotion. You really felt like he had lost his dearest friends, each and every one of them. Ramin is probably the man I adore most in theater, but he can't play EVERY role in Les Miserables.
