The judge gives a summation of the verdict meant to leave a lasting impression on the subject. There can’t be any question on record, or in the guilty party’s mind. This is not a random opinion. This is coming from his probably years of criminal law experience…. If anyone has ever wished they could shake a murderer and tell them exactly who they are and what they’ve done, or question ‘why?’-this is the judicial system doing that. There are so many reasons, I could continue for a while. Even comparing his character and apology on a scale of other criminals with similar characteristics. There’s a small population that can boast of that range of knowledge. As a layperson, I’m annoyed when people don’t think things through. I didn’t even bother googling it, but I’m sure you could and it would GIVE you a reason the judge remarks at sentencing.

I think the judge was very deliberate in what he said. Firstly, his length of time in the justice system which allows him to make judgement about the psychopathy of Murdaugh being empty of sympathy for his prey. His mention of Murdaugh whooping it up at a party only a few short months after he killed his family. Likening Murdaugh to a cop killer who received the death sentence, suggesting perhaps that is what Murdaugh really deserved. He mentions that Murdaugh will have many years in prison to help his inmates. Very clever judge to say much more than it seems. Even undercutting the good image Murdaugh was trying to make for himself in his soliloquy of love for his family.

The law firm let it slide when Alex was caught having stolen his brother’s check. They could have looked into things more closely after that. That is a lesson for all of us. Many years ago, I was fooled by a work colleague, I didn’t think to look past some minor transgressions, which proved to be the tip of a sordid iceberg of crimes. I will never let that happen again.

I love that Judge Newman does not draw a distinction between this and violent crimes. Because of Alex a family lost their home at the threat of violence. If you can't pay your mortgage or rent law enforcement will come and remove you with force if necessary so it's the same thing as being robbed at gun point. In 2019, another lawyer of a prominent S.C law family was suspended & charged for tax crime. He actually died 3 weeks before the Murdaugh murder trial. His own father, and sister, were judges. It’s only rumours, but it’s been speculated that like Alex, he struggled with addiction. That lawyers is Judge Newnans son. And yet, in all their wisdom, Alex, Harpootlean & co. have sought appeal on the basis judge Newman was not impartial. Judge Newman is as sympathetic as it will get for Alex & his financial crimes. Anyone with half a functioning central nervous system recognises that if any bias is present, it’s _favourable_ to Alex. May they fall upon the sword on which they live. I’ve had the enormous privilege of watching Judge Newman throughout several cases now, including Murdaugh, Nathaniel Rowland, Christina Pangalangan, amongst otbers. His insights into the character of others & quality of their heart never misses. Judge Newmans retirement is an enormous loss for Americans, but it’s a retirement well earned & long overdue- especially after dealing with these 3 muppets the last few years.

Nice comment and as much as I’d love to agree with all of it, I feel compelled to point out no Judge can possibly serve the people or follow that oath they would have sworn to uphold. Just as no “Lawyer” who needs a license to “practice” could either. They don’t and never did work for us, the people. The entire judicial system works for a foreign corporate construct run by banksters and world acronyms, who are the ones really in charge. All these actors purportedly holding lines of authority are just that, acting. The public must believe and it must be seen that justice is upheld ONLY. Anyone who comprehends what “money” actually is and where it comes from would know that there isn’t any real money. It’s all credit and backed upon your future income & taxes. Banks do not loan anything of value and we finance our own “loans”. So how does this Judge or your “favourite judge” look now, when taking into consideration he and all the rest of them have sworn secret oaths to serve the BAR first ??!!?!? You can’t serve two masters yet all of these pirates who “practice law” whist masquerading as honourable, unbiased, moral members of society, supposedly seen as having reached the highest of accolades and therefore demand our respect. Ummm 🤔 Wait a minute ….. All of them including your pirate politicians keep the most epic scam hidden from public knowledge. It’s impossible for this scam to continue without the entire judicial system and government actively participating, colluding and being totally complicit in the fraud. Yeah sorry, this man is no different. He knows that no court or statute or code or constitution even even applies to a living man or woman. Only persons, defendants, tax payers, rate payers, individuals, drivers, residents, citizens…. Citizens of all countries are debt slaves. If you have a state issued Birth Certificate then you’re more enslaved than your mind could possibly imagine. The saddest part is most of you haven’t the faintest idea or can comprehend you don’t owe your bank anything.

I hope the judge has protection/security in his retirement. Personally, I would probably be looking over my shoulder knowing AM's attorneys feel the way they do about him and that he knows AM is still pulling strings behind bars. (Maybe I've watched too many mob movies, but hey, if the shoe fits....lol)

Murdaugh is not an enigma; he's just a garden variety psychopath. That he can do evil is only one side of the coin - the flip side is his practiced ability to convince others that he is the opposite of that. He is unable to feel empathy or remorse, and any genuine tears are for himself, never for others. Emotionally he's not human, but mimics human behavior and emotion by watching others. The higher one climbs the ladder of wealth and power, the more likely he or she is psychopathic - we've all known examples.
