13 years ago I remember being 15, stranded late at night an hour away from home after the buses stopped running, listening to Edge of the Earth got me through the whole trip home Thank You Josh ❤️

So effortlessly played. Criminally underrated guitarist and band.

I hope to see a “The River” playthrough. Probably my favorite Sylosis song. Guitar tone, rhythm and lead, are so incredible on that whole album

Listen to these sweeps at 0.5x speed … so clean 🤯 Insane that this song has a solo. The intro is already mindblowing 😍

The very first time I ever heard Sylosis, my buddy put on the music video of this track. From the opening notes I knew that I had just been shown something that would forever stick with me. My actual words while listening to this the first time…”Jonny, this is perfect.” Of course dove deeeeep into the whole discography at the time and can say proudly that Sylosis are right there with The Black Dahlia Murder as my favorite bands of all time.

This song inspired me to play guitar again after not touching it for 5 years or so. Started again during lockdown and this song was an inspiration which became a learning exercise for so many techniques. Thanks Josh.

@@Guitarist19887 thanks for the encouragement, bro. covering josh's songs is unforgiving as fuck. makes me rage sometimes, ngl.

@@HaRDc0r3z oh yeah, it takes longer than a month. But if you’re failing that’s the road to progress. I’m sure you’re better than a month ago. They are unforgiving but more satisfying if you finally nail them.

@@Guitarist19887 i got oath of silence, a serpent's tongue, behind the sun, reflections through fire (the right hand is fun af on this one), what dwells within, teras (which was probably the hardest because i had to learn how to triplet and it was a steep climb, but i didnt even try to learn that sweep)... oh and poison for the lost cuz it is easy. i really feel the growth after tackling those, you're right about that. it's like a mountain when you first look at it.
@Guitarist198875 ай бұрын
@@HaRDc0r3z behind the sun is underrated in difficulty. Quite hard if you downpick everything. I’ve learnt the Teras sweep just can’t get it to album speed ‘yet’. Serpents tongue looks like a nightmare for the rh.

This song and album were my introduction to Sylosis; I remember finding Josh's tutorials on KZbin and learning how to play this song. It's a fun one to play, and his tutorials really took my guitar playing to the next level.

Its one of the easiest Sylosis songs. (without the sweeping) That song leaded me to learn these awesome Sylosis riffs. Love it

The sweeping looks easier than teras, that’s a nightmare at the speed lol

First song I heard from you guys back when I was in high school. Got absolutely hooked, and this is still a MASSIVE tune. This was the time I was really into bands tuning lower and lower, and the heavy ass intro made me think you guys were in C# or something.

What?! The 1960TV is my dream cab! It's perfect for a modded Marshall amp (or an EVH 5150IIIS EL34 100 watt). Listen to Stuck Mojo (like "Rising"). That's a 1982 50 watt JCM800 (with a Soldano "V2 Hot Mod" and 6550's) going into a 1960TV. Other than that, i'll take a Marshall MF280(A or B) cab over a Mesa OS 4x12 (or the traditional cab) any day.

I personally love the guitar tone for Edge of the Earth. It suites the "earthy", raw feel that is supposed to represent the record. Plus it is a moment in time that Josh was vibeing with Mastodon at this period. HOWEVER, I prefer the more modern, saturated tone he is going with now these days and during COAA.

I always thought the rhythm tone on eote was too woofy and dark.. especilally compared to conclusion. The music itself is unreal.. I remember finding eote in a local music store just looking for new bands and being blown away by procession. It's still one of my favorite Sylosis tracks!
