I think Hao Shuai's bigger problem was that he kept smashing the ball directly at Maze instead of moving him around. Maze was an excellent lobber, and you aren't going to wear him down or get an error from him that way (just like you aren't going to win by continually looping straight at a decent chopper's pips). When a player is backed up like that, they can't possibly cover all the ground there is if you play angles instead of trying to win with brute force alone.

Just some random thoughts here. As others have said, Michael Maze was a good lobber. His lobs were deep and he would move back to the center to cover the angles. Smashing a deep lob is harder to end the point vs a short lob. Example: Ma Long's smash in this video va Ma Lin was an easy one. It was right by the net. Then there's FZD's smash vs Vlad in the video. Samsonov at that stage of his career was older and didn't get back to the middle making that down the line smash easy. Hao Shuai should have finished but he didn't. Maybe mix in a drop shot if you cannot put it away with a smash every once in a while. I don't know. I'm sure he has replayed that moment over & over back in his head. Truth of the matter was that he just wasn't on the same skill level as Ma Lin, Wang Hao, Ma Long, Xu Xin, ZJK eventually went. So I think he would have been moved down to the B team sooner or later even if he had finished off Maze.

Maze also gave some (side) spins on his lobs which increases the difficulty to smash the ball. I saw the other version of the video which shows the match from Hao's back side. The lobs insanely kicked out.

Maze is the best lobber in the world. We all know that. it's a bit unfair to say it's Hao Shuai's fault. I got the point you want to make however, as always thanks for the video and you're teaching. you're the best coach.

Yes, Hao Shuai should have been demoted if he did not know how to properly smash. Thank you very much EmRatThich for the "80%" comment, I'll give that a try. Also the leg movement okay the whole video is important! Hao Shuai -- learn and get back to A!!!

Hi there. I am currently trying to figure out what types of rubbers and blades I should be looking for for my first setup I've ever done. Though I have played Table Tennis for a while now and I thought it was time to invest more time into the sport. So, my general parameters I was thinking of was a flexible blade and hard rubber. However, there is are so much different variations of blades and rubbers out there, that I'm kind of getting lost. So, I was wondering if you or anyone could give me some recommendations for the type of rubber and blade I was thinking of getting. THANKS!

true! it's difficult to smash with Chinese hard rubber due to the lack of "springiness" softer rubbers give.

The blades perform the same, but the handles are different. A shakehand blade has a longer handle and has more variety (straight, flared, etc) whereas penhold blades have a short handle.

@canicetang8837

Lobbing can be extremely deceptive. In particular when extreme sidespins are imparted. From the regular angle, it looked just like another topspin lob. Only when they land on the table, the ball started to swerve to the side. This spin actually fools a lot of people and even the professionals at times will either missed the ball completely or delaying their smash as they hit too late as the ball is dragged to the net just like what Hao Shuai did. When you are doing this with extreme under and sidespin (under the table) like Xu Xin (called the snake). It is even more devastating because you simply didn't know which way the spin will be because the contact with the paddle is completely hidden, until the ball lands on the table. By then, it will be too late.

Canice Tang thanks! But It doesn't answer my question. I asked about what happened with Wang Hao in the national team
@canicetang8837
@canicetang8837 7 жыл бұрын
Wang Hao is more consistent than Hao Shuai. At the very least, he didn't blew a 3-0 lead and leading 10-8. Then gone on lose the match 3-4 like this. Let's gave the credit to Maze for not giving up. But seriously now, Hao should had won the match easily. Choking like this is a capital punishment for the Chinese Team. Moreover. Wang Hao has much more weapons than Hao Shuai. Being a penholder himself and still has the best RPB, he was much more versatile in his choice of tactics and variety of shots. Also being a 3 times World Champion, ranking at Number 1 and medalists at the Olympic Games. Those achievements alone just meant that Wang was much more accomplished that Hao. Which is also why he is one of the head coach of the Chinese National Team after the unexpected departure of Liu Guoliang.

You have excellent videos, the technical details you highlight are always extremely useful and very helpful. I would however appreciate if you would refrain from translating WT.... because I find it vulgar and perhaps many others do too. It's plain to see what you mean and cloaking it with an an abbreviated acronym doesn't make it less offensive. Other words could just as well express the astonishment of the coach.

EmratThich has several videos on this. In these he suggests an all+ or Off- blade. Ideal stiffness should be 2.7 to 4.0. Thye stiffness rating will give you an idea about how flexible the blade is, He has suggested the Stiga Allround Classic $40, OSP Expert $120 with shipping, Nittaku Violin $170. He suggests a flexible blade if you want to properly learn to loop. Here is some research I did after I watched EmRatThich equipment videos three times each. Then I went to tabletennisdb.com to research allround blades. Yasaka Sweden Classic 6.9 speed 9.2 control 3.0 stiffness rating 8.8 80 grams all rated 5.4 thickness About $35 plus shipping at Donic Appelgren Allplay 6.8 speed 8.7 control 4.1 stiffness Composition Limba Limba Ayous Limba Limba 5.4-5.6 thickness ALL This blade always gets great reviews except for it speed. But it could be perfect depending on a players technique level. About $38 plus shipping Butterfly Primorac: Materials-limba-limba-ayous-limba-limba Off - Thickness 5.5 - 5.7 mm 86-90 grams 7.7 speed 8.8 control 4.5 stiffness 8.7 overall rating 90 weight blade dimensions 157 150 ALL+ Great Blade sold 10s of thousands or more but little bit less flex than OSP Expert, Stiga allround, etc. OSP Expert 5.42mm thickness (flexes with a big pop)7.6 speed 9.2 control 3.4 stiffness 89.2g weight (feels lighter due to neutral balance) 160 x 151 (longer than average head) ALL+ but can really blast it off a powerful stroke. About $120 with shipping. Forum suggested rubbers by guys with a lot of expert experience tg3neo/sharkII Stiga Allround Classic: limba - ayous - ayous - ayous - limba 6.7 speed 9.0 control 3.3 stiffness 8.8 rating One of the blades EMRatThich has mentioned. 80-90 grams. I have noticed Stiga blades vary quite a bit in weight. If I buy one I will request a specific weight. About $40 plus shipping. Yinhe W6 $30- 8.9 rating 4.1 stiffness 7.9 speed 8.8 control 90 gramsHere is a note from the yinhe facebook pade-YinHe W-6, 5ply wood OFF- "Yasaka Gatien Extra Alike" [RPB King] - Rm130 (pen/shake available) It is a 5 ply blade, that's supposed to be a clone of the YASAKA Gatien Extra blade. It uses similar outer plies to the T series. The Handle on all the Yinhe Blades feels very similar to the handles on Butterfly blades, with the dimension nearly the same. It feels more like a blade double the price. It is rated by the Manufacturer as an Offensive. - Fitted play: medium fast attack, loop Plies: 5 plies wood He has 30,000 followers on youtube.
