Dont forget the Sachs /BMZ RS can give 800w and 112 NM without overheating too. The only real, and surely defintive difference are those sensors and DJI really put the foot down, using all those for everything... the read time on the sensors and all other factors make an excellent drive system, and all factors could be channged in future updates... Its their first software... it will change dramatically in the next years.. to the better, and can be more flexible as all others. Hats off

I can’t help feeling the future is the Pinion. I’d love them to refine that further. I think the Bosch has ample power, not sure you need more. The parts wear is a big issue and I can’t help thinking Pinion is solving some of that as opposed to just adding x% more power with the DJI.

The question we need to o ow is how many metres of climbing will the DJI do using the same amount of watt hrs as the opinion and Bosch . I think the only fair was to range test them would be to shuttle the same hill maintaining a consistent heart rate . Then publish the amount of vertical metres climbed and in what time I think that would be the most Interesting test for me 😊

I rented a bosch gen4 and did 23miles 5831ft in around 5hours (37km 1772m) in the swiss alps going up ski slopes in autumn I initially started in tour but quickly went back to eco when I could because even in tour I saw the battery go down too fast for what I had planned, pretty much anything below 10% slope I did in eco 10-20% in tour and 30% more in emtb I did quite a bit of walk assist going up a ski slope I couldn't ride which apparently costs a lot of battery and ended up with 25% of 750wh left (keep in mind it was cold snow at the top no sun) sadly the rental had no recent display with the stats so it's all guesswork but it gave me an idea of what I wanted and could do, the main benefit is time, my record on muscular is 1852m D+ but that was a day long session with an ebike I could do that in half a day and be ready for another one tomorrow, p.s. there's an actual DH black track there the Champéry Mountain Bike World Cup but I didn't dare it I'm a casual biker with no protective gear with a rental bike >

Pls don't say the Pinion has 160NM, it's not comparable, it's wheel torque which says nothing about the motor, it has 160NM wheel torque in the first gear and probably like 10NM in the 12th gear. Pinion just can't measure the motor torque because the gears are inbetween Motor and shaft, you could probably get 300NM wheel torque out of a Bosch CX if you put a 20T Chainring with a 80T Cassette in the rear. The "comparable torque of 85NM" is more fitting

@onemanandhisdog9 I cover around 240 miles a month on mine, off road in all weather conditions, and shockingly even some of the best branded components don't last long on it.. (and what's even more worrying is - my bike lives in eco mode). The point of my post is, EMtb parts need to be tougher before adding more power stress, at the moment they're only built to withstand analogue bike standards. More power will be like a hot knife through butter.
@onemanandhisdog93 ай бұрын
@@dirtyoffroader2093 Depends what you mean by "best branded". Shimano XTR is expensive, Shimano LX cheaper and will last longer as it isn't made super light which isn't such an issue with an eBike but you can bet your last £ there will be a lot of parts snobs putting XTR (or other makes equivalent) on because thet think it looks good in the pub garden.
@dirtyoffroader20933 ай бұрын
@onemanandhisdog9 I agree that the most expensive isn't always the most durable, but the same can be said right through the price range on mtb components. Personally, I think the Dji will be pushing the boundaries of current components no matter what make or model they are. I suppose only time will tell. Last Friday i was climbing up bike park Wales and only went outside ECO into trail on a few parts if I didn’t the battery wouldn’t have lasted very long. On my local trails riding with mates i am regularly exceeding the limit racing round after them or them after me and its how it transitions between power and past the power. Measuring torque on the Pinion in specific gear makes no sense, gears multiply torque, if you measure the torque on a fixed gear motor then torque is based on motor output multiplied by fixed gear ratio, then cassette in rear multiplies again to hub, which you are not measuring, IMPORTANT. Pinion is switching gears in the motor and fixed ratio to rear end, so obviously Pinion should have higher torque coming out of motor but it doesn't change to rear end since thats fixed, GET IT? This is why you don't measure wheel torque in cars as a comparison because the transmission affects the torque value, you measure engine torque BEFORE GEARING. E-bikes are more difficult because all motor units have reduction gearing built in, but the Pinion has gearing that changes on the output so is not comparable! Torque is bad measurement overall because of these issues, watts (power) is better because of this, but you need power over rpm to get a good picture (power curve).

my experience of 3 rentals of emtb (ordrered one since) bosch gen4 by default I found eco helped slightly not enough, tour(non+) too much bike was trying to go full speed as soon as I pedaled and emtb was more than enough I never used turbo once if it was too steep for emtb it was time to use walk assist, the tuning bosch flow app offer is definitely a plus, I only had the 2.6 27.5 rear (mullet) slip once on damp dirt going up a grassy mound (no trail I was in hiking not biking territory) whatever motor you use it needs to have tuning for your conditions or you'll end up like my 1st rental, a hardtail emtb that did burnouts as soon as the slope was too steep and forced us to push more than we should have (hard rear is bad on emtb do not regret the loss of a lockable shock if you come from an XC bike like my float dps-fit4 muscular)

If the bike operated on a 48v system like the SL series bikes a 700w battery only gives you 14.5ahr. Typically what I see is the higher voltage motors, for example Bafang have 36,48 and 52v motors and if they all have the same 20ahr battery works out to 52v/1040w, 48v/960w, 36v/720watts of usable power.

Also, regarding power delivery; its not the power or torque, its the calibration, power delivery, and resolution/sample rate of the sensors and the ability of the "tuner" (at this time only manufacture) to calibrate the package for the rider, terrain, motor, and bike. I'm optimistic we will have an ecutek/hptuners, maybe eventually a motec option, for our ebikes so we will be able to "tune" our bikes to how and where we ride, not just a calibration that is setup for broad audience and rider type, which is generally geared toward the beginner on ebikes. :(

I'll start by the disclaimer that newer isn't always better. Now that's out of the way, I am disappointed in brands implementing older battery tech and drive units as recently demonstrated. I have heard directly from brands saying that they chose the cx race motor due to its lighter weight and performance advantages, ceramic bearings, etc. However the older battery negates that weight advantage, and we all know at this point the new bosch motor is a considerable improvement over the last iteration. I have also heard from a brand that the newer 800 wh battery compromises performance due to the weight, which again doesn't make sense to me as the older 750 wh battery is both heavier and longer than the new 800 wh bosch battery. Yes the battery pack is wider, but that enables the weight to sit lower as Crestline have demontrated. Final word, the 1st brand to implement the 800wh battery, make it removable put a 4 bar suspension design, newest boshe motor, and 170 mm of travel will in my option will rule 2025's e bike market, assuming components are of good specs and pricing is competitive. If consumers do want the race motor from the last gen then make it an option on a model or 2.

Of all the newest, latest, and greatest, I think the Saturn is the truest to what the spirit of an EMTB is meant to be. Cheers,

So, one rider would be 15kg lighter. Imagine climbing a hill with a 15kg suitcase?

Regarding both the pinion and the DJI - I'd want at least a year of reliability reports before considering either. Anyone know the IP rating of either?
@_Jake.From.Statefarm_3 ай бұрын
DJI as a company makes very reliable motors. That is one their big selling points.
@jonathangriffin70423 ай бұрын
The DJI motor is rated at IP66. Their display, battery and controller are IP56.

Agree, waterproofing is a major issue with motors. Personally, I want to see how long components last with that extra power.

Do you remember when phones were 600€ and in two years we suddenly jumped to 1.2k to 1.5k€??? I feel that's happening to eMTB right now, they are testing us how stupid we are. No bike is worth 15k, not even latest and greatest, 10k max and even that is insane. I have Several pivot bikes that are in that range, but we need to start voicing our opinions louder. Other ways we'll see e-bikes 18K€ in next 2 years...

Right? Screw those prices. I have an e-bike and a mountain bike and I refuse to continue to get gouged. No offense to Rob, but your business is promoting new stuff and getting people believing they need said new stuff.

The max legal output is 250w Surely the power output shouldn't be swinging anyone's purchasing decision. If you want power a legal pedal assist bike is not the right choice.

I do wonder are these dji bikes actually legal, if there not it needs to be stated as they are going to do more harm than good. And I wonder about drive train longevity

drive train will last like a week.

That Cotic. Cant stop laughing. They've brought out a model T Ford and lauding it as a Great British thing. Surprised they didn't wrap it in a Union Flag. 8 grand.....really?!!

Pinion motor will last longer then the chinese DJI junk

That DJI motor is concerningly powerful. I say this as an owner of 3 e-bikes (and 0 acoustic bikes) who hates e-bike haters. However, the fact that it wheelies off the start and throws dirt while climbing gives me a somewhat repulsed feeling about it. I think that watching this video may accelerate my shopping for my first acoustic MTB. With eMTBs this powerful, I’m afraid we’ll see more strict regulations regarding use of e-bikes in trail systems. I typically ride a Gen 2 Bosch CX in ECO.

honestly i give a rat's ass about the DJI no matter how hard you drum about it. If bosch wants to they can also do a drift machine. I know because I've had an unlocked bosch gen 3 before and god damn it accelerates up to 45 km/h FAST. I'm fairly interested in the Pinion and i'm actually considering it as the next bike.

Steel is fabulous for rigid or hardtail bikes but as most eBikes are full suss I don't really see the need for such an ugly beast. I have a Niner SIR9 and my next purchase may well be an Amflow, but it certainly won't be a an eCotic, I like my bikes to be functional and good looking.

Its not fair that Bosch runs the show.. As soon as Dji arrived they canseld the E ews, but when they came out with their new tech like the over run, then it wasnt any problem..😝😝
