I was born in 1980 so was probably 4 or 5 years old when I was watching this, I just seem to remember it being on fridays. Just noticed this episode was 1983, So I was even younger when this one aired.

As far as I know, five series between 1984 and 1987 were broadcast on a Friday, from the fifth series of Emu's World through to the first Emu's Wide World, and all the live ones in between.

Gotta admit, a lot of kids I remember used to hate their guts, especially the ones from the early series. They hated the Pink Windmill Kids' over saturated manners, the song-and-dance routines they'd randomly break into, and what came across as a bit of an unnervingly inhuman hivemind of perpetually cheery kids.

I don't remember much of this series, but I think this cast included: Catrina, Hugh, Sarah Jeffs (her shirt was labeled as Sarah-Louise), Emma, Spencer, Lorraine, Anthony, Debbie/Deborah, Emmah-Louise, Aysha, Kate, Natalie, Natalie, Daniel, Hope, Sarah Stone, Ron, Anne-Louise, Joanne, Mark, Lisa, Hope, and A LOT of others I can't recall. Oh well :) EDIT: I stand corrected, the girl's name is NOT "Anne-Louise", but rather "Anne-Marie" as an earlier comment said. I rewatched Episode 4 of this Series and the name on her sleeve does indeed say Anne-Marie.

Catrina and Joe both did a fair bit of television back in the 80s and 90s. Quite a few others appeared in things like ads or had small parts in films, dramas or soaps, while many more had careers focused on the stage rather than the screen. Other common jobs include modelling and dance or fitness training. Perhaps the biggest 'showbiz' success story of all the Pink Windmill Kids is Nicholas Pinnock (kzbin.info/www/bejne/baCvZ4mKZcx8a8k) - in recent years he's been in Fortitude and Marcella, and played Nelson Mandela himself in a high-profile TV movie.

6: 30 "This is only 40 centimetres wide and... this is a metre." A little pause there as Rod realises that the props department is struggling with metrification. I actually snorted when Croc called Grotbags 'Your Royal Mail'.

Nah - it's "a meter", as in, "I've come to read your meter." It's a visual pun. :-)

Not at all! A lot of these jokes and references don't translate to today's audience. I think the shows are still enjoyable as a whole, though.

Emu's World! I always thought it was called The Pink Windmill Show! .....was that right too?
@VideotapeFTW
@VideotapeFTW 8 жыл бұрын
Yes, the name changed depending on the format. When it was 20 minutes long, it was Emu's World (like this one); when it was 45 minutes long, it was Emu's Wide World (e.g. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKPZiGqvYp2toJY); and in between when they broadcast live, it was the Pink Windmill Show (e.g. kzbin.info/www/bejne/epmcpamjo6loedU). So don't worry - you're not going mad!

It's the sort of show that a lot of people loved, a lot of people hated, and a lot of people loved to hate (if you see what I mean). Nevertheless, it was one of the biggest kids' programmes of the 80s - so give a few episode a try if you have the time. :-)

Wasn't this "There's somebody at the door"?? That's what we said, did we have it wrong?!
@VideotapeFTW
@VideotapeFTW 2 жыл бұрын
They used both "There's a knock at the door" and "There's somebody at the door" interchangeably in the early years, before eventually settling on the latter.

What makes you say that? The Grotbags solo spin-off show was the 90s, but the Pink Windmill ran from 1982-89.

Not sure if Rod went "all over England" for a nice happy place to build the Pink Windmill on, knowing that Boggle's Kingdom is right around the corner...
