I started to lean back toward original hardware. Got a good CRT broke out the og consoles and......after hours of realizing its a pain to adjust the yoke to a CRT, and after all the messing around, and hooking up a sea of wires to an av switcher, using component cables for my ps2, and trying to play original hardware, i realized my powerhouse pc can emulate any game at anytime and it looks amazing. So now Im torn again. Asking myself why did I set up all this stuff? I dont know anymore lol

Thank you for this topic. I feel that sometimes, whatever you prefer is what you choose if it fits you.

Im looking at upscalers to have my whole collection working and the common response is "just emulate". And you said what ive been thinking. I bought the dang things. I wanna play them.
@tunnotron30006 ай бұрын
That's exactly it! There's nothing wrong with going either way and there's positives and negatives to each side. If you've spent the money on buying and maintaining a physical console then you should enjoy it!
@austinfowler27076 ай бұрын
@tunnotron3000 I mean with homebrewing I can dump my physical collection and play on emulators 'legally', so technically I can have a clear conscience.

I luv emulation have 12tb of Roms but that feel of og hardware and crt tv with zero input latency can never be out done
@tunnotron30006 ай бұрын
I'm lucky enough that I'm not super sensitive to input lag but I agree there's something special about holding the original controller in your hands. It was amazing to be able to beat my original Dynamite Headdy cartridge!

Saturn emu still needs alot of work and 64 emulation needs much to be desired but most games play decently and with the games being abled to be recompiled on PC we may not longer need emulation for N64 just have every game a PC native or Linux/android port

That's Parodius on Gameboy :) There's also a full list of games in the description if there are any other games you need to check.

Retro500 give or take 10%, its a joke man it was 646! Also cracking video a regular debate I hear but one I have little interest in joining in and getting butchered for, whilst the nostalgia of the OG console cannot be matched without emulation there would be too many I simply couldnt play

I'm currently burning some ps2 games onto dvds since my potato doesn't handle ps2 emulation the greatest
@HKgaming8617 күн бұрын
but only about half of those burns succeeded and thus emulation is still a part of my toolkit as a retro gamer. Use all the tools at your disposal ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think people who claim “hardware above all else” are gatekeepers. Sure, I’ve got carts that are worth thousands of dollars in my house but you know what? If I ever wanna play them, I emulate them. And it’s not even that they “are worth too much”. It’s just easier. My goal? Lower the barrier between me and actually playing video games.
@tunnotron30002 ай бұрын
Yeah I think once you cross the line of telling someone else how to play a game or that their way of enjoying games isn't the best, then you're not even in it for the fun anymore.
@leeartlee9152 ай бұрын
@ It’s been my experience that people who cross over from “gamer” to “collector” have lost the plot altogether. It’s become too much about…. “the stuff”.
@tunnotron30002 ай бұрын
@@leeartlee915 Well collecting is its own thing I guess; never something I've been interested in but if it makes someone happy and they're not ruining someone else's day then more power to 'em. I agree it's very easy to lose sight of just having fun playing the games though!

@ I’m with in… in general. What people do on their own time is their choice. But I can have an opinion about how those people behave and their general affect. Here’s an example: a lot of collectors start TRULY believing that they are single handily preserving video game history. But the reality is, the chance these people have a 1 of a kind item is so frickin’ low. And even if they DID have something unique, it doesn’t do the world any good with it collecting dust in their virgin lair. The true perseveration of video games, that’s taking place online. With ISO and ROM dumps. That’s where video games will be preserved. Because it can’t be flooded. It can’t be thrown out. And it can’t just child in one dudes house.

@@leeartlee915 yeah and there are definitely some extremely rare games out there yet to be dumped (some of those weird satellite service style games) whose owners refuse to let them go. Kind of sad that these things might rot into oblivion on someone's shelf.
