I have an 8 year old corgi and she has many of the same traits, she always licks my bed when she is next to me and even if i would push her head away or tell her to step she just keeps doing it😂, also the rolling in the ground is very typical, every single time she sees a place with sand on it, if i don't controll her she goes absolutely mad and starts rolling in it exactly like yours did in the video. So cute and cool but it's a pain in the ass cleaning the dog afterwards 😆.

Corgis were bred to herd cattle, that is why they like to follow small tracks, curbs or painted lines. Personal story; the girl I married was from a small ranch in Oklahoma. Our first rescue Corgi that we had was a little on the large size, but was still small compared with the Border Collies that they had on the ranch. We volunteered to bring the cattle in from a field across the road from the ranch house. We took Frodo, our Corgi, with us to get him some exercise. When the cattle started coming together to be herded across the road, Frodo took it upon himself to bunch the cattle all together. You have to realize that Frodo had never been trained to herd. One young bull took exception with the fact that this small "thing" was forcing them to bunch together, and decided to charge Frodo. Frodo expertly waited to the last second, jumped up and barked directly into the bulls ear!!! The bull quickly turned around and headed to where he was supposed to be going.

Love your videos! Growing up in Ireland always had a pembroke corgi in the house....six in total. One of the corgis,a female,was overly protective of anything to do with our Mum. If we went to touch any of her stuff,such as a handbag or even a sweeping brush,she would growl loudly at us! Our first corgi,a male, loved apples! We had an orchard out the back. One day,my Mom noticed the corgi making several trips upstairs. On checking,the corgi had amassed a large pile of apples under one of the beds! We have a Cardigan Corgi, so he has a tail. I notice he wags it at strange times, like when he is nervous or unsure. It kind of reminds me of how a squirrel bounces it’s tail around when it’s nervous. Another strange thing he does is not greeting us at the door when we get home. He will be laying in the hallway looking at us like we never left. He gets more excited about strangers visiting than he does his own family coming home!
@matthewpeterson33292 жыл бұрын
It's been scientifically proven that dogs wag their tails to the left if they are apprehensive, say unsure about a person approaching or a situation. They wag to the right out of joy. It may look like it's a full side to side wag, but if you watch, you will see it's pronounced to one side or the other. I'm not pulling your leg, it's actually been studied and documented as a way for dog owners and handlers to use the physical cues as a threat warning. The left side of the brain controls joy, resulting in a right side wag. The right brain associates with fear, resulting in a left side wag. Interesting, huh?

We've had three Corgis. They all do what you mentioned, except the furniture licking. - In addition, all our Corgis were obsessed with large balls (soccer sized up to 1 meter wide horse balls) that they liked to herd with their heads, faces and shoulders. - They are EXCELLENT soccer goalies - NOTHING gets past them a d they'll complete flips, head over heels, to try and prevent a ball from going over their heads!! - They all sploot to relax on the bare floor or porch to rest and/or nap. - Will often go into deep sleeps flat on their backs with legs sticking up in the air; this is VERY MUCH Corgi behavior. - Bunny hopping and front foot stamping enthiastically bout anything new or exciting. - Grabbing or getting under sheets, blankets, rugs, or large pillows and then rolling themselves up into wraps or burritos (Corgittos) with their heads covered to sleep. - Not letting ANYONE else get to play with a ball they're playing with. - Herding small children and chickens into corners. If not trained to resist, they'll nip heels to encourage this! - Corgi glitter (loose hair) and keeping them from jumping off steps, porches or furniture were the only "concern" we ever had. We got pet steps so they could get up and down off the couch with us. Back injuries can be serious and accumulative.

You can put yogurt, peanut buttter, etc, on the lick pad to make it interesting for the doggie. Yes on the "talking"! Every afternoon after work I listen to BJ talk about his day first. So Cute. BJ does a "dance" move since a puppy. He stands in front of us when he wants us to do something: go outside, find a toy, a treat...if you don't get up right away, he shifts his weight side to side until you do what he wants. BJ is our second Corgi. Our first, Buddy, lived to be 13. We were heartbroken and then my husband came home with this 7 week old ball of fur and we fell in love all over again. My corgi gives such a low growl, but is mostly mute. We are training her to be more vocal with us, without barking. If my dog would be vocal, I would be a lot happier as it would be easier and funnier to understand her.

I used to raise corgis and it was a challenge! They all had different personalities. I had a breeding pair and another female. My nails name was Nick and my female's name was Paddy. Their paper names were much longer but I'm not going to bore you but that. My corgi's had really weird quirks. My male and female slept together like a married couple. And my mail was extremely intelligent. Excellent guard dog and skateboard puller! If you want to know more let me know and I'll be happy to tell you the adventures of Nick Patty and Fergie. Thank you for your video!

I just found out that Corgi breeders cut their tails earlier this year and was devastated. They're just as cute with their tails!!
@gabbyzinkan83854 жыл бұрын
@@BlissfulBluebell i got told by our breeder that they do that because they’re working dogs and the tails can get in their way when they’re playing etc
@BlissfulBluebell4 жыл бұрын
@@gabbyzinkan8385 their natural tails curl up like pomeranians and I've rarely seen corgis with them. Not sure how accurate this is but pet corgis definitely don't need their tails cut Edit: I mean most aren't working dogs and still get cut. I don't see labs or retrievers getting cut either so I honestly doubt their tails would get in the way, but I'm also not an expert. Still a tragedy I think

@@BlissfulBluebell i just had a litter of 7 and didn't cut the tails or dew claws. They curl up like crazy around week 4, the dad has no tail and when he's happy he does butt wiggles, its very different from tail wagging. But the tails are coming back, if they aren't herding I dont see why not.

My Corgi pups do the same thing! We have 2 3 month old pups - brother and sister - and they LOVE to be under the bed or coffee table. And our girl loves to walk on the railroad ties around the park playground by our house like a balance beam. We love our Corgi pups!!!!!

my corgi does most of these. She loves laying under beds and behind the couch. She is super friendly and loves meeting new people and she always wiggles and howls. She has grown out of licking the couch but she did do it when she was young.

Hope you got your baby by now. Welcome to no life beyond your corgi haha!!! As puppy You can leave them alone, but they will chew all the trim and doors in the house to pieces. No matter what age they go manic depressant when their master leaves :( They will make you feel bad about it for hours when you get home.

In 35 years I’ve had 8 dogs, none have been purebreds. The closest was a Malinois mix , but I always had at least 2 dogs at a time. Most of the things you speak of are not “corgi “ specific, all my dogs have done a variety of them. Two of them were known shep mixes and had the distinct ears , bark & howl and would “ talk back” when I spoke to them. The laying half under the bed, two of my first dogs back in the 90’s did that, it was like they were having a secret meeting under the bed. The little dog I have now is a spot licker .

Mine does the sidewalk thing, too! And the pillow thing. She rolls around on the couch, instead of in the floor. To the point that she rolled off the couch the other day, and immediately jumped back up like "I'M OKAY." She also does the talking thing when we wake up. She jumps on me and starts headbutting me to get up, and when I'm like "I can't get up with you on me," She starts sassing back at me. Every time. It's like a 5 minute conversation. 😂 I haven't seen her do the licking furniture thing, but my old German Shepherd used to do that.

Thanks for posting this video. Our Cardigan, Gromit does ALL of them. He is particularly strong in head tilt, talking, and arranging pillows. He constantly licks our bed clothes and he does that snout on the ground wiggle every day after breakfast. I thought MY boy was crazy. You let him off the hook with this video.

Growing up we had six corgis over the years. Our first one,a male called Dusky was very intelligent. One day,my Mom noticed him going in and out,and going upstairs several times. She followed him upstairs to a bedroom. Under the bed,he had accumulated a large pile of apples. (We had an orchard out the back). Obviously,he knew apples are very good for you!

We have a Corgi mix named Charles Chips, we call him Charlie. He is a rescue from the local humane society and quite honestly he could be Chibi's sibling, they look that much alike. I honestly think Charlie is Corgi-Pomeranian mix. He is smaller than Chibi and has a brush tail like a Pom. He does all of these things except the pronounced head tilt and the wiggly body. He talks though, kind of dips his head sometimes. And omg, the licking the couch!! We never dreamed it was a Corgi trait!! And it's so cute when arranges the pillows. You have beautiful furkids!!

My dog walks on the edge of the sidewalk too. I thought it may have to do with the show training that most of the breeders also participate in. I adopted my Corgi at a year old from Ukraine so she came pre-trained in a lot of areas so I thought it was just to do with that. It’s cool that yours is the same way if you got her as a puppy.

Corgis we’re bred long ago to be working dogs. Dogs that could manage a flock remotely in distant pastures and keep them safe from predators. They are excellent verminators, ridding pastures of mice, squirrels, groundhogs, badgers, etc. hence their love of small tight spots. Our Corgi, Molly, would often pursue groundhogs into their burrows requiring me to pull her out by her hind legs. Intelligent, independent, courageous, bossy, and the cutest, most endearing darn dog I’ve ever known. A great dog to go backpacking with too. Nothing could ever sneak up on you with her around.
