Moodu Pani (English: The Mist) is a 1980 Indian Tamil-language thriller film written, directed and filmed by Balu Mahendra. Starring his then wife Shoba and Pratap, with N. Viswanathan, Ganthimathi, Mohan and Bhanu Chander in supporting roles, it is based on two novels: Idhuvum Oru Viduthalai Thaan (1978) by Rajendra Kumar, and The Collector (1963) by John Fowles. The film follows Chandru (Pratap), who has a strong hatred towards prostitutes and would kill any such woman he encounters. He falls in love with Rekha (Shoba) and believes marrying her will end his psychological distress.

80's was a golden period of music. Somehow well matched and specifically prepared for KJ Yesudas from the master. Nee pathi naan pathi (Keladi kanmani), Eeramana rojave (Ilamai kalangal), Amma Endrazhaikaatha (Mannan), Raja raja chozhan naan (Rettai vaal kuruvi), vaa vaa anbe (Eeramaana rojave). , Senthazham poovil (mullum malarum). Thendral vanthu (Thenrale ennai thodu)...... are some songs have always memory of both. As you said about cinematography, Balu Mahenrda was a great cinematographer and director who was also the director of Moondram pirai (Sadma) with kanne kalai maane from KJY voice.

This music of Illayaraja grows on you when you listen to again and again. You appreciate the subtle things he has done much better like the violin strain couple of minutes into the song. This has over period of time become my favorites, even the cinematography. Yesudas has sung it in such a correct mood, the way he rolls over the words in certain places, like when he en nenjil 2 min into the song.

Moodu Pani (The mist) was a film made by the legendary filmmaker Mr. Balumagendra. He defines filmmaker as someone who writes the script, does cinematography and direction as well. Balumagendra made his films with beautiful scripts, used natural light fantastically as genius cinematographer and ensures that his actors don’t wear make-up (including female lead actor). Art film lovers must watch his movies. The interesting part is, his movies were also commercially huge success. I recommend “Veedu”, Moondram Pirai”, “Azhiyadha Kolangal”, “Moodu Pani”.

His focus is mainly in classical music and devotional songs. Singing so many Hindu devotional songs, he converted himself from Christianity to Hinduism. His voice is known as " terrestrial voice" He has sung many Hindi songs too in the 80s ... Listen to his Hindi songs from movies, chitchor, chhotisi baat, chasme baddoor...etc He has sung over 40000 songs in almost all indian languages, Russian, Arabic. Remember these songs are his part time songs...he is regarded as No:2 in Carnatic music next to Dr.Balamurali Krishna. Has sung thousands of Hindu and Christian devotional songs. His Hindu devotional song is played in Guruvayoor temple in Kerala... which is regarded as God's own voice. As far as ARR...yes he worked under ilaiyaraja for long time and learnt a lot from him. But failed to learn discipline from him.. Ilaiyaraja starts his work 7: 00 am everyday and completes 2 songs everyday. ARR wakes up at 11 am... takes 6 months to compose for one movie....and takes help of all computer software in the world to "create" his music...also music around the world " inspires" him. Nothing is his original. But ilaiyaraja is original...not a single note of his found anywhere else. I am happy you landed yourself in this particular song... Because KJY + ILAIYARAJA = ECSTASY.....lol
