The Swedish version of 'Lifetime of War' is called En Livstid i Krig and has a different perspective on the Thirty Years War than its English counterpart. The song is about the many men and women who were born during the Thirty Years War, lived through the war and most possibly also died in that war.

As most of you will know, the Sabaton Album 'Carolus Rex' was released both in English and Swedish. And though we have already covered 'Lifetime of War' on this channel, 'En Livstid i Krig' sings about the Thirty Years War from a different perspective. For this reason, we decided to do a separate episode - in Swedish, about En Livstid i Krig. Lucky for me and all of you who don't speak or read Swedish that well, we have included English subtitles in the video. If you would like to gain early access to our Sabaton History episodes and actively support this awesome project that we are so passionate about, you can do so by joining our Patreon community. There are some pretty cool perks when you become part of the Patreon family. Find out more and join here 👉 www.patreon.com/sabatonhistory

For those wondering about that performance of Carolus Rex at Sweden Rock. There's an audience recording of it somewhere. The standout moment there is while the band were singing the chorus in English, the audience were singing along in Swedish. This could probably count as the only time both versions were heard in one concert

As you discussed in the end if they can do more in Swedish, you realy should. Maybe not an entire album but add one song into it that is about Swedish/Danish/Norweigan history. Battle of Narva, Battle of Kliszów (Where Carolus Rex destoryed the polish hussar, crossover song), Swedens war of Liberation, or a song about Sweden during the napoleonic wars. Jean Baptiste Bernadotte, the French field marshall that fought for Napoleon only to become king of Sweden and then create the plan that enden him (whose family still rules sweden). I won't sleep well until a song about either Narva or Kliszów! is made!

When I read among the comments of the episode about the English version that the Swedish one is completely different I looked for a translation, and I have to tell, I prefer the Swedish one. I've always been interested more in history on an individual level. I really like to listen sometimes to music I can't understand (very helpful when I'm doing translations), and I'm sure it's a different experience for Joakim too to sing in his mother tongue. I'd really watch such a live performance once.

The military service in infantry was pretty much life long. There was no time limit for the lenght of the conscript service, so the men were kept in their units as long as they were capable of fighting, or peace came. Some studies have found that something like 80% of the men taken into the swedish army during 17th century never returned to home, mostly due to death. Cavalry was somewhat different. Horsemen were mostly volunteers who could finance their own equipment in exchange for tax freedom, and there are records of men over sixty riding to a war for almost tenth time.

The Battle Of Lund 1676 could work great as a song I think. So would the sinking of the ship Kronan. Karl X Gustavs war with the Danes where Sweden won what is now the southern part of Sweden could be nice, and the attempted storming of Copenhagen and the march over Stora Bält aswell and his victories against the Poles. The Battle Of Narva in 1701 would be perfect. A song about The Swedish Peasant Rebellions could be cool. The Battle Of Brunkeberg and other famous events during the Swedish War Of Independence would be cool since its pretty unknown. And Sweden during the Napoleonic Wars could be interesting, like the Battle Of Berlin in 1814 where the Swedish crown prince Karl XIV Johan was the commander of the allied forces and where he managed to defeat Napoleon. Just som suggestions I managed to think up from the top of my head;) Awesome hearing Indy speaking swedish btw. Keep up the good work!

There are many things you could sing about: The Finnish war of 1809(maybe the most important event of "Modern" Sweden and Finland), breaking off from Denmark, pagans, Some rebellion like the Dacke feud(Sorry im a Smålänning). The list goes on but you get the idea.

Underbart att göra videon på svenska och de svenska låtarna tror jag är nog de favoriterna många svenska fans har, alla jag känner som gillar sabaton har de svenska låtarna som favorit låtar, och många av dom föredrar att spela någon av de låtarna än istället för att spela en engelsk låt som dom tycker är bättre (tempo, text, mer intresant) Wonderful to make the video in Swedish and the Swedish songs I think are probably the favorites many Swedish fans have, everyone I know who likes sabaton has the Swedish songs as the favorite songs, and many of them prefer to play any of those songs than instead of play an English song that they think is better (tempo, text, more interesting)

Not only a meaningfull song for the age it's written to. But it's so applicable to modern times aswell! When I first heard it, I was in the army. Knowing so many who went to the war in Afghanistan, what many of them felt because of the public view on soldiers and the war. It's such a powerfull song! And on my first Sabaton concert at rockefeller in 2012/13, front row. Seeing the next song was "En Livstid i krig" starting singing, and everyone just sang along through the first verse and chorus before you guys even could start to play was.... uff! Det var virkelig et fantastisk øyeblikk! Tusen takk Sabaton, for dere har vært med meg siden 2009. Interesting hearing another language with such a comparable word order. I can only speak English, but I've taken several language classes and have gotten very used to having to wrap my head around very different word orders. Unless Swedish has a lot of words that sound like they're cognates with English ones that happen to also be in the subtitles despite Nordic languages having a strong impact on English thanks to things like the Danelaw back in the day (which seems like an absurdly convoluted scenario), there's a lot of similarity in terms of sentence structure.

Emotional... indeed. When Joakim sings: För kriget, det kan Förgöra en man Jag ger mitt liv för mitt fosterland Men vem saknar mig? Så se mig som den En make, en vän Fader och son som aldrig kommer hem Men vem sörjer mig? I swear there's a huge lump in my throat. In an episode about Carolean's Prayer Joakim says that he got goosebumps during the chorus. I totally get that, for me an especially epic music gives goosebumps too. I've read an article that people who get that reaction have different brain than the rest.
@SabatonHistory
@SabatonHistory 4 жыл бұрын
I get goosebumps from music often, and I've read about that too. Science Times says: "The study, entitled "Brain Connectivity Reflects Human Aesthetic Responses to Music" was published on Oxford Academic. It states that those who experience chills and goosebumps while listening to music have a denser volume of fibers that connect their auditory cortex to the areas of their brain that process emotion. The study suggests that the denser fiber in the brain means that the auditory and emotion-processing areas of the brain of those who get chills are better able to communicate with each other, thus the stronger reaction they have to what is called musical stimuli. Sachs also concluded in his study that those who get the chills have a higher tendency to experience more intense emotions than those people who do not feel anything while listening to music." www.sciencetimes.com/articles/24643/20200109/study-says-having-goosebumps-while-listening-to-music-means-your-brain-is-special.htm So I guess that may be true... You gotta appreciate that Indy did THE WHOLE video in Swedish. Absolutely amazing work. Sabaton History continues to deliver quality content as always. Thanks for this weeks video Btw Pär om du läser det här. I, for quite some time ( well, to be precise, since I saw *that* 40-1 fan video ) adored sabaton, but I always wonder what is the key componet, the core, that one thing thats makes this band so unique and diffrent than others. After all, there are many metal bands, and some, and I dare to say that ^^, even better at makeing music ;) . But none of them ever sparked my intrest in same way as Sabation did. And I think now I know why. Somebody under a video about "Inmate 4859" ( btw, I can't wait for a episode about this one wrote !) wrote a comment, to quote it directly " i love sabaton because they almost force me to satisfy me curiosity " It's not just the song that are great, it's massage and history surrounding it as well. You don't just write music about pices of history, but write them in a way that encourages people to look past it, and learn on their own. And it's a amazing fuel for always hungry history buffs like me.

It's so interesting to learn about history in different languages and different viewpoints. But also to find myself almost understanding some sentences without subtitles, and struggling with others - because I barely know enough Swedish to make a full sentence, yet still recognizing words is nice. And even though I know English is the bastard language, who nicked and twisted words to use, it interested me to hear the word 'bairn' (or 'bearn') used for children in Swedish, when I thought that was a pure Celtic or Scottish word for child. lol Yay learning!
