Enabling android auto and apple carplay on Toyota

You can probably use the dongle adapter to get CarPlay in the highlander but it is not available from the factory

I have a corolla 2020 and I dont have the projection setting function. May be my car is not equipped for it? Every time I click in projection, it tells me I need a USB cable. Which cable would that be?

If you are trying on a Corolla you wont have projection settings on the first screen where it is it will just show CarPlay

Had to be a data cable. Some are charge only and they dont work. Also you have to enable carplay or android auto on the radio for it to work

Question about this I'm buying a 2020 or 2021 Tacoma when inventory is available. If there are 2 drivers and one is an Android user (OnePlus) and the other flies the apple flag can you enable both apple car play and Android auto at the same time so that way when each user plugs in their phone it identifies it. I expect you can use only one device at a time.

It would work with the phone plugged in. They can both be enabled but yes only one at a time.

The 2020 Corolla is out now and has carplay but not android auto. I would suspect the 2021 will have android auto

You are right. They do the carplay patch to add CarPlay. Then it projects the info from your phone to the screen. I am personally waiting for the android auto patch for my parents rav4. It's not available yet.

Apple Carplay is in the 19 standard. Android was in the Camry until 2020

I have 2020 highlander and I can't seem to set up android auto! It shows projection button and I have downloaded the app as well and still won't work. Do I have to use USB cable? I've been trying to use the phone charger to connect to the USB port and that's how they all showed on KZbin clips with regular charger. I need help!!

Had my note9 working with my rav4 2020 but my wife's note10 is not pushing thru on the android auto. Tried fixing her android auto but its just not working with rav4's stock stereo. Tried using both our phone with her CRV and both our phone's android auto connects.

CarPlay is a Apple product. Google has Android auto which has some similar features. You have to download the app for android auto to work and enable it on your Toyota to see the app.

Every car is more tech equipped in every brand. The good news about Toyota is that you dont have to use most of it. If you dont want carplay shut it off, the safety systems like blind spot and pre collision and lane departure you can even turn off. Even some of the eco systems can be shut off.

Make sure you have the android auto app installed and running and that you have followed the menus options in the app to get started. Also make sure you plug in your phone with a data cable to the port below the radio. Having a charge only cable or plugging into the wrong port wont allow it to work.

So in order to use Android auto or Apple car play you have to connect your phone to the data port thereby eliminating the ability to use a USB stick to play back your audio files because there is only one data USB port provided. Since Toyota is eliminating all cd drives in their vehicles they are making it difficult to play back audio files, unless you store all of your music in your cell phone. What a convoluted pain. Toyota should be ashamed.

It's due to the amount of data that has to be transfered for carplay or android auto if you tried it over bluetooth it could be less reliable.

@@stevenwelchtoyota but like I said, because of the fact that there is only one data port available you are limited in only being able to use one feature at a time. For example, If you want to use the data port for music file playback you have to physically unplug your cell phone from the port and visa versa. At least if they had more than one media port available that you could select from the media screen that would alleviate that problem. And continuing to provide CD players such as what Subaru offers in many of their vehicles would be helpful. I have read many complaints from other drivers concerning this.
