warping is always an issue with enameling. I generally try to give the metal form a slight dome before enameling. that helps it keep its form and prevents warpage. on this video i am not trying to show how to make a finished piece suitable for sale as a piece of jewelry. instead, i am simply demonstrating how to learn some simple techniques to create specific imagery. in this case, it was iintroducing the concept of a "stencil".

Lovely. But how do you deal with the warping of the piece? If this was a pendant for example, it is no longer flat.

Hello I just watched your video. I was given this box of enamel powders, sifters and thinner. I didn't know how it was used. Your video helped me with that. My question is can I use this with resin projects or anything other than firing in a kiln? Also is it even any good? The product is AMCO Metal Enamel 3990-19 Opaque Canary and other colors. There's even a white flux and a water dissolving tablet for antiquing. It may be as old as 1971, I say that due to an empty prescript bottle is dated 22 Jan 71 from the Air Force base here in Phoenix. If in your expert opinion it should be thrown out what are the best methods of disposal? Thanks, Michelle

TBAEC If you like the results, it is useable. There isn't a right or wrong. it is made to be fired in a kiln, but it's basically powdered glass, and if you want o embed it in resin and like the result then do it. If you want to throw it away I would just put it in the trash.

no, i did not. but you can if you want. there will be more videos coming out next year with demos of using holding agents and different mesh sizes when sifting, stenciling, and scraffitoing through enamel.

I seem to have a rim of the black around the edges that don't get color or get cleared with my initial fire. How do you fix this?

Hello Arlene, The black around the edge is usually caused by lack of enamel in those areas. This edge can be sanded and/or ground away leaving the bright metal next to it. A second cause can be over firing. Sometimes the black edge is a result of both, but it is not uncommon to see this on the edges. Our Jewelry Tech Team is happy to provide some guidance, if you like. What size screen are you using to get the fine particles out.

Hello Arlene, Thanks for your question. Generally around 80 mesh is a great particle size to achieve the best clarity. The fine or very fine particles can actually be used for painting and adding fine lines of color.
