Really well researched video, dogs are one of the most varied species on Earth, and not all breeds are recognized in all regions, so a fully complete list is probably not possible. Having said that, as someone who has been around and worked with dogs for many years, I think this is one of the most comprehensive lists I have come across, and is a true labor of love! The epicyon looked just about big enough for grown person to ride, same with the alpine mastiff.

The videos a bit misleading. Epicyon may have weighed as much as twice as that if the alpine mastiff. Epicyon wasn't a canid, it was a canidae in a clade called the bone crushing dog meaning coyotes, foxes and wolves are closer related to our dogs than epicyon. Epicyon filled the niche of big cats, apex predators in their day. They had bones far thicker and a stronger bite than modern dogs, just like big cats.

Anything within the family of Canidae, including all subfamilies are canids, however borophaginae is a subfamily containing canids that are so distantly related to the ones we see today that they wouldn’t be able to breed, and wouldn’t behave or look much like any canid we see around today like the regular foxes coyotes jackals and wolves etc.

Malakli is a fierce brawler but I wish it was modest and durable as kangal dogs. Most of them end up with back issues around age 7-8. My uncle had a middle sized male about 100kg. He was good at chasing wild boars. Boars would show up in mornings to eat melons. And the booming bark I'd never forget

The dog in the video is definitively a golden (american and european goldens don't have the same type) Hovawarts are mostly solid black or black and tan, blonds are a more seldom. And hovas have a totaly other temperament than goldens, they are guard dogs. In old german hova means farm and wart guardian.

Kangals are healthiest, biggest, strongest, smartest dogs I've ever seen. They understand everything that is going on around. They can be your true friend as much as people. They are not the healthiest that's the Australian cattle dog they are not the biggest that's the English mastiff, they are not the strongest although they are reported to have a high bite force and they are certainly not the smartest that's the Boarder collie without question. I know who the alpine mastiff go extinct!!! Alpine mastiffs are extinct in 1815 due to excessive crossbreeding with other large dogs in europe. Therefore, these dogs totally disappeared before the mid 19th century.

Great video, much work put in it, but I think there is a mistake. Belgian Malinois is definetely not bigger than german shepard, those are two dog breeds used by police and special forces all around the world and I've seen many many of them, and I can say 100% Malinois are slightly smaller on avg, they are muscular so they can appear big, but are actually much lighter than GS, I've also seen many GS that are way above avg size, and I mean beast size, but I've never seen oversized Malinois, but mby because GS are more popular idk.

Why was species from the genus (Leptocyon) subfamly-Caninae. Also genus (Archaecyon), (Epicyon), (Aelurodon) subfamily-Borophaginae in the mix? They are not human influenced breeds but long extinct species. Also although Fuegian dog was domesticated they aren't in the genus (Canis), but are a domesticated South American subtribe-Cerdocyonina "fox shaped dog" a domesticated Culpeo fox-dog (Pseudalopex culpaeus).

Don't get a toy dog with short legs if you have stairs. They've been inbred so long they can't get up or down them anymore, sidewalk curbs are a problem too. Too many breeds have health and medical problems because they're been bred too much for specific reasons, the German Shepherd's hind legs are almost 1/2 the length of their front ones leading to hip and back issues and dogs bred for pushed in faces like bulldogs, pugs and boxers have sinus and breathing problems their whole lives. Stop it breeders, you're breeding them into extinction.

Irish Wolf Hounds are quite a bit heavier than what is claimed here. Females are typically between 150 to 160 lbs. Males typically 180 lbs. Irish wolfhound height is about equal to Great Danes but wolfhound body length can be significantly longer. Making them giants when standing on two legs sometimes up to 7 feet.

You will be shocked if you ever see a prime Malakli dog up close, you all have probably seen Irish Wolfounds, Great Danes, they are perhaps as tall (but these can get even taller), but the sheer MASS of the dog will shock you, it is huge, wide, muscular, with a Grizzly Bear sized HEAD, its like seeing a Polar Bear.... and the demeanor/attitude/stubborness is insane.... I love dogs, had dogs (Rottweilers) all my life, but its the first time i got scared/uncomfortable going near a dog (saw one in Turkey on vacation), dude holding him had a horse type of leash/chain/harness system and was dragged along and looked like a midget next to it, what the heck is this creation! and why is it not more popular, it should be allover the Guinness World Record book.
