But this is not wise. There is high unemployment rate even with graduates. So, removing the degree requirement will not do anything. Make job opportunities for graduates, then about non-degree job seekers
@GarthLyle9 күн бұрын
How does one make job opportunities? South Africans like to throw the term around but what actual solutions do you have
@Magz-1019 күн бұрын
@ It’s very simple. 1) Stop issuing tenders worth hundreds of millions for Maintanance work. Why issue a tender for IT services when government can hire own IT people and provide job opportunities? 2) Support Industrialists to encourage them to manufacture goods on shore. For example, impose tariffs on imported Chinese clothing and incentivize locals to resurrect the local textile industry, thus creating jobs. Do you need a longer list?
@GarthLyle9 күн бұрын
@Magz-101 point 2 is very good and I agree. On point 1, you need the skills and that is usually outsourced as the government does not have the man power or skills to cover that gap ? That is the point of tenders. It won't work and create jobs unless for example they run a program to upskill people to address that need.

Job opportunities should be based on skills intelligence and expertise and not entirely on a piece of paper with an exception of a few in critical shortage " Certificates are meant to be framed and hung walls whilst intelligence is something you carry with "" How can one acquire experience when one is not given the opportunity to prove oneself? Knowledge and Experience is amassed over a given period of time and is certainly not achievable over a short period. Enthusiasm and passion to learn is the key to unrevel any situation cross frontiers of unknown Territories and achieve you dreams with a positive mindset. Without the above propensities your degrees are worth nothing. How long are you willing to stand in the long or wrong queue ?

Ah, an intriguing proposition. However, removing degree requirements for jobs as a panacea to unemployment reeks of logical fallacy. Degrees, much like faulty glasses, are tools to filter qualified individuals. Without them, how does one ensure competence? By this logic, why not hire a surgeon who merely watches Grey's Anatomy? While admirable in intent, this approach neglects the intrinsic value of education and risks diluting professional standards in a misguided bid for accessibility.

They should remove work experience instead. If you remove a degree what else do you need to replace with? A one week or a one month certificate endorsed by companies? They don't want to train people with a 3 or 4 year degree but they prefer to employ and train again people with one month 'international certificates". It's all about getting employed, trained or experienced. Certificates are creating chaos for qualified individuals with degrees who couldn't afford or have less resources to access these certifications courses to enter into their respective industries. Tour de Babel.

For positions that do not require a degree - I agree, but for those that do require a degree - the requirements should stay. There is a reason why - when a job specification and ultimately a job description were drawn up (for that position) - a degree was deemed a minimum requirement. If you would like to be an actuary for example, a BSc in Actuarial Science is a requirement. The same goes for other fields such as the accounting profession, engineering, medicine, etc.
