One thing I always think is that Mariano REALLY is a good person, and you can see that by the fact that DOLORES is in love with him, literally the character who listens to everything others do. She even says in the song at the end that he writes poetry, takes care of his mother, etc.

Abuella got lost in her grief. She raised a team of superhero's so nobody would lose another loved one. Mirabel didn't get a gift to remind Abuella that they should be a family. Rather than get depressed about not having powers, she is the one that helps everyone to overcome the limitations and expectations Abuella put on them and they could be a family again.

The music hints at this! During the opening song (The Family Madrigal), her section is the same tune as "Dos Orugitas", which is sung over the flashback near the end. Abuela is "stuck" in that moment of grief.

Yeah, abuella kind of lost the entire meaning of the gift and Mirabel not getting a gift was a way to remind her what it truly meant (my take😅)

I sob every time I watch this movie! Mirabel’s song “Waiting On A Miracle”, Bruno’s little hand drawn plate, Mirabel and Isabella hugging, and Mirabel finally getting to open a door. I’m an emotional mess every time!

Bruno's hand drawn plate jacks me up every time. Like, he's RIGHT THERE just a few feet away from the family table, on the other side of the wall. Such a powerful way to symbolize how so many "black sheep"in families feel.

Bruno's vision showing the house broken and unbroken meant the magic had to be broken and restored. Abuela's trauma caused her to focus on the miracle that saved them instead of her family. When the magic broke it forced Abuela to realize she didn't have her priorities in order. Mirabel also had to see how her family felt trapped by their gifts. Her empathy for her sisters and the rest of the family provided the stable foundation needed to restore the magic. She reassured Antonio that if the ceremony didn't work for him, he'd still be accepted by her. I also believe she's destined to be the next matriarch and if she hadn't accompanied Antonio to his door he wouldn't have gotten a gift either. Mirabel selflessly came to his aid when he said he needed her, despite the reactions of everyone when she walked him to his door.

There is a film theory that Dolores wanted the family to lose their powers. What supports this theory is how Dolores picks & chooses when to reveal information. According to Dolores, she knew Bruno was living in the walls, but said nothing. She admitted to hearing Luisa's eye twitch, yet made no mention of hearing abuela's prayers about the house. She could hear the mice in the walls, but never mentioned hearing the house crack randomly. She intentionally told everyone at the table about Mirabel's secret. Likely to further sabotage the marriage proposal & but to also redirect the attention on to Mirabel causing more stress to the house. At the end of the movie, the house created an image of the entire family on the front door, Dolores looks unhappy in the image. Suggesting that the house is aware of how Dolores really feels

Out of all the reactions I've ever seen to this movie, you picked up on clues, themes and foreshadowing the quickest, on everything. Subbed! Except that Dolores had a crush on Mariano. It was hinted at during "We Don't Talk About Bruno" when Mariano is walking towards the house and Dolores sees him, then sings "He told me that the man of my dreams would be just out of reach, betrothed to another."

in my opinion i think delores did say something about bruno bc we know she can't keep a secret, in we don't talk about bruno she says to mirabel "i can always hear him sort of muttering and mumbling" so i have a feeling she said something when she was younger and the family just didn't believe her

Encanto is Generational Trauma the movie, and it's just so well done. It's such a heartbreakingly beautiful story touching on unintentional harm done to those who matter most in the wake of your own traumas. I will never not cry and laugh and smile and just melt watching this movie. When it comes to what gift would you choose, I'd actually pick Isabella's personally. Imagine the perfect vegetable garden you could grow with it. I'd serve up the juiciest tomatoes for my loved ones lol

I still cry over this movie lol. I personally think Mirabel's power is the whole house. Even Abuela said she needed help and that she was sent Mirabel. Plus every time Mirabel was stressing or feeling slighted by her Abuela, the house would crack...even getting worse the more stress she felt, finally cracking and breaking down when she felt hopeless and that her family was falling apart. I think she will be the new matriarch once Abuela passes, I mean..someones gotta keep everyone and the house together, and she already does so much for her family, even if they don't realize it at times.

I absolutely love this movie. I’m black and Hispanic and this movie reminds me a little of my family. I relate way too much as Mirabel. Besides not having a magical power. I always felt like I didn’t have something special that my other family members had. I remember when it came out I was maybe 15-16. I cried hard🤣. And still do when Mirabel says “ I will never be good enough for you”. Hurts my heart

one of my favorite disney movie that's modern too. the song we don't talk about bruno actually passed the song let it go, thank god lol. the grandma pissed me off in here. they should have given camilo his own song, he has the best voice. mirabel's magic was the whole house if you really notice her doorknob opened the whole house. the knocking on the wood is like for good luck.

She is not the keeper of the candle, because there is NO candle anymore. But, I believe that Mirabel herself became this "candle". Once her family was united by Abuela and the candle, and now she herself has done it.

The sad thing about Bruno is that since Antonio is 5 years old, that means that Julieta, Bruno, and Pepa were 5 (they're 50 now in the movie). Imagine the whole village blaming a 5-year-old for predicting something that was either a good thing or a bad thing happening.

This movie is easily in my top ten of all time, possibly in my top five. I find it infinitely rewatchable. The animation is great. If you look back at Frozen, for instance, it's beautiful, but almost all the background characters have the same proportions as Elsa and Anna, and that's oddly boring on the eye because it's unrealistic. Here they've got a much wider range of body types. Lin-Manuel Miranda's songs are good and Germaine Franco's score is sublime. The voice acting is great. Then there's the depth in the story. It just has everything.

I will just say that in defense of Dolores, she had to learn when to use the knowledge she knows from hearing everything. Which is y she never told anyone about Bruno being in the walls. Bruno also had to say as quiet as he could to Dolores could not hear him talking about his last vision. I also believe that the reason Dolores is so quiet when she speaks is that the level of her own voice can hurt her ears.

The song is basically about her troubles with her power and how it overwhelms her. The other song is "Rule The Quiet" by Lydia The Bard. That one is like a what if scenario. In this one, she snaps and was able to silence everyone instead, taking away people's voice. Both are amazing song artists
