Brian Wilson is an American Icon a treasure of American song writing. What an angelic performance.

Of course, this classic piece was written by jazz pianist, singer/songwriter and actor Bobby Troup!

Brian with his arm around Carl is just as moving as the song itself. No dry eye here!

The high end is all Brian (yeah 11 years too late) has the characteristic metallic sound from his post 76 falsetto

Even with half a voice Brian blows everyone out of the water with his passion and genuine nature

I still listen to them nearly everyday. One of the best groups ever. No one could do what they did. Writing and voices unparalleled. Still my favorite.

Many people don't know that Brian Wilson re-worked this song in 1963 with lyrics as a tribute to legendary actor James Dean - The Beach Boys recorded it with brilliant and gorgeous acapella vocals and titled it "A Young Man Is Gone".
@magneto7930 Жыл бұрын
That was the version that I heard first, from the Little Deuce Coupe album. Eventually, they put out a live version of Their Hearts Were Full of Spring on the Live in London album.
@tknagano349811 ай бұрын
Actually the rewritten lyrics were by Mike Love. TK
@tknagano3498 yes, and they were actually very well written lyrics. I'm not a big fan of Mike Love but I believe in giving credit where it is due.

I've always thought Mike had the toughest part as bass was not his natural voice. Beautiful here.
@JaanusSaar3 жыл бұрын
Oh yes, his parts were often the toughest, and he did an amazing job.
@kelhenny12 Жыл бұрын
Yeah his bass is outrageously impressive. And people don't even know that's what he's singing in these harmonies because he doesn't look like he's doing it.
@cole6122Ай бұрын
Yeah he was kind of pigeonholed as the bass since he was the lowest voice in the group at the start, but he did a great job

this is probably the last time they really sounded like the beach boys they were in the 60s i love brians falsetto, not many videos of him like this past the 60s

They sang this at the inaugural George H.W. Bush Points of Light Awards Gala that I was fortunate enough to attend in September 2019 at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum in New York City, except in that case it was dedicated to George and Barbara Bush though, not the Reagans
@MarioEsposito917 жыл бұрын
this version is terrific just for that high note at the end that doesn't exist in both the previous beach boys version (1966 live) and the freshmen original version. guess who plays that high note. Brian. terrific band them, terrific musician him

Who is singing the top line? Brian used to (ex. when they performed and recorded this song back in 65/66) but at this point his regular voice was a shadow of what it once was...but his falsetto still sounded good when he wanted it to, ex. "Getcha Back." The song only requires 4 voices, so I wonder if maybe Bruce doubled the top line with Brian to help him out?
@Blend424 жыл бұрын
There is definitely a clear Brian on the high part. You can't mistake the "whinning" nature of it. He could still pull it out on occasion until the mid 90's at least- Here is a little from late 1988 - kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5-YiJx3r8qYY9k
