Irrelevant question: Why does that thing doesn't give the shard to the one who destroyed it? Is it random or it has some basis on which one it gives the shard to?

It gives to the hero on your team with the least net worth, that doesn't have a shard yet. So most of the times will give to the supports first since they don't farm.
