Did you drill and bolt from the outside or drill and screw from the inside? I see a lot of big angle supports; were these part of the original trailer or custom added by you as part of your shelf project. Very nice, always impressed by handy guys like you that make you great and easy. Just wondering because this is impressive.

Amazing Job!!! This is the best design I have seen. I plan to replicate for some bunk beds. Do you remember what gauge/size of angle iron you used?
@rmcustom95732 жыл бұрын
The most critical clearance in this entire design is where the shelf pivot, pivots into the angle-iron on the wall. Both sized angle-iron needs to be drilled out near their width center for that one pivot on each end, allowing for the shelf angle-iron to “clear” the wall angle-iron when the shelf angle-iron is closed “into” the walls angle-iron ! 2” on the wall….and 1” for shelves. Always give yourself EXTRA room, therefore extra clearance !

pnolans Correct. I tried to keep it simple for the ministry I built it for. It was built to be used by women in a girls ministry so I wanted them to not have to use tools to deploy the shelves. I'm in Idaho and I have friends that build trailers.... I dont recommended that you put extra weight pulling on the ceiling. It can take away from the integrity and snow load. That being said I do like your concept of fold up shelves, even if I would put legs under them.
@Poke_The_Bear3 жыл бұрын
This is a florida trailer with light bins on the shelves, otherwise I would certainly agree with you. If this ever goes into production there would have to be some supports across the roof from side to side supporting itself as well as some other design changes. Thanks for the input

@Poke_The_Bear4 жыл бұрын
Renee Wierz we used large eye bolts and cut off the threads to keep the loops. We left a small amount of shaft and welded it to the ceiling truss beams. This particular trailer had arched, rectangular tubing so it was plenty strong enough to support the type of weight they wanted to hang from it. Unfortunately some of the I shaped ones that come in a lot of enclosed trailer are not strong enough (my opinion)

After more than a year in service I personally was able to view this trailer loaded to the gills as it is normally used and the results were exactly as designed for their needs. Absolutely nothing comes off the shelves while driving loading the shelves and securing that way. I do have another design that when shelves are deployed there are also flip up containment walls that interlock at the 90’s and can be made to any height to accommodate the customer. Find something on KZbin or elsewhere that has a better design and forward it over as we’d love to see other’s inginuity. Thanks for viewing and commenting.

Mike Ritchey the wall frame brackets are drilled, tapped into the interior metal frame skeleton of the trailer. We tapped into the steel skeletal framework due to the fact that the wood is merely very thin vermeer plywood and certainly wouldn’t be able to support the weight of a load on the shelves. None of this is engineered but I erred on the side of caution (probably a bit overkill to be honest.) and so far so good. No concerns from the customer at all.
