Nice plans, meaningful arguments and recommendations, and sorry for the long comment 😅. I am still learning things about enclosure designing, so if something isn't correct what I wtore about, pls correct me. Just few things what worked for me when I designed an enclosure for a car (at least for those drivers I worked with): some designers have an option for including cabin gain into the simulations - for example BB6 or speakerboxlite: back then for 1 of my friends I designed a sub for an 12 inch Edge driver which was C-slot-ported (L-port + 1 piece of extra wood), tuned to 25 Hz, but it was peaking in his car right at 20 Hz with opened window - when I switched on cabin gain, the transfer function graph showed this (also over the internet once i found the formula and tutorial how to find the cabin gain's freq of a car) - so, with cabin gain it is more easy to design a windy box. Usually for cars I design boxes in which the driver just touches it's Xmax at a higher freq than tuning freq + at 20 Hz on the driver's RMS power, using slot port with an area which gives 17 m/s max port air velocity (if I know right, in theory max port air velocity of slot ports up to 35 m/s is OK, just over 17 m/s needs to have properly rounded over edges to reduce / cancel the port noise). If the port needs to be long, then to keep the box buildable in the most compact way it is possible, design labyrinth port - on speakerboxlite is the easiest to design a labyrinth port i found to date (maybe there's an another designer - I don't know). Try out more designers: for example I designed a box which had net volume / tuning freq / port area / port length the most realistic by WinISD, another by BB6, also other by speakerboxlite, just the final designs I made on speakerboxlite using these most realistic specs.

Sounds like a fun build. Too bad you couldn’t use passive radiators since they don’t consume space in the box like a port but they can cost unless you have some old subs with no motors.

Help please, say a single sub needs 16 sq inch per cube, a single sub in 2 cube needs 32 sq in, does adding a 2nd sub double that and turn it into 64 sq inch of port area? So that each sub has its 16 sq in per cube? Sounds crazy for that much, but I haven't found an answer anywhere that says port area is per cube or port area is per cube per subwoofer? Dual x8v4 going into 2 cubes thanks

9:12 are you going by net before displacement of woofers and bracing or after like what the sub is seeing I'm guessing after just want to confirm.
@JerryAintloud2 жыл бұрын
i get measurements and find gross of enclosure volume, then subtract the port at outer demisions so i get the wood for port also, then subtract subs and an estimate of bracing. and what's left would be divided by 3 to see what each sub is getting. so I have to keep doing this til I get the enclosure and volume for each sub right where I want it.
@GTILOUD2 жыл бұрын
@@JerryAintloud right I followed what you said and used the 12volt calculator and designed a box that is 6.64 on sub side not counting port and after some bracing and subs the 2 15s should end up seeing 6.12 cuft and the port is 5.5" x 15" and 41" long tuned to 28fb. and 82.5 Sq in port area for 6.12 cuft 82.5/6.12 so I'm @ 13.5 cu in of port area per cuft and box is designed subs up port firing passengers side so it's louder for me. Definitely noticed that the lower the tuning the windier the build gets Jerry. I'm currently tuned 34hz in my slot port enclosure and my range with my Sundown Xv2 is 23hz on the low end and 57hz on the high end, pretty musical but not quite low enough for my taste so I'm thinking about 6th order out the trunk next. 🤔
