Encountering Problems Rebuilding Frankenstein EJ25

I have a 2006 2.5i and I just hit 204,000 miles. AC went out, and it needs a timing job. Surprised the head gasket hasn't blown yet. Not sure what I'm going to about it. Trying to figure out some kind of a build.

Are you just trying to rebuild/refresh what's there or go with some kind of swap?

I want to work on my own engine but I know nothing yet and I’m intimidated

Before you ever turn a wrench, do as much research as possible. Videos, articles, forums, guides, anything to familiarize yourself with what you want to work on. If possible, it's also good to have someone that can help you when you get stuck or feel overwhelmed. I don't know how much experience you have, so I cant tell you either way, but I am also fairly inexperienced myself if that helps at all.
