Thanks for all the great videos. The last one with pictures from Hällevik was a little extra exciting as I stayed there one summer with my father, five years old. I remember a long bathing jetty, maybe it was the one shown in the pictures. The year was 1951. We were playing in the water by the jetty. There were small flatfish that splashed underfoot and there were wheels from bombers that crashed outside the village during WW II, which we played with in the water. I also remember train journeys with a narrow-gauge train that went to Kristianstad and a retired skipper with a lot of cats who, when he got tired of them, stomped with his clogs and all the cats disappeared into a hole in the floor. We later moved to the west coast of Sweden.

Hello to RAN sailing family from France. We had a problem with our daughter and lifejacket when she was similar age in 1969. My wife made one for daughter's favourite Rabbit. No problems afterwards. Have watched all your episodes, like your new little boat. Richard

Hey Guys. Love your Vlogs. Down to earth people. I use a a Garden Trough on the long handle to clean my yacht bottoms while she's in the water. You can Snorkel on the surface and do most of the hull. It's heaps easier than a small hand scrapper. Fair winds. Kiaora.

I have been keeping the frequent eye on you folk ever since you pulled up anchor to cross the Panama Canal, I wanted to see what that experience was like. I'm not a sailor really but have enjoyed a bit of the scenery and I have really enjoyed Juan doing maintenance on the boat. First time I have seen a engine head rebuilt on the kitchen counter. 🙂 These days I have to admit that I have grown an attachment to Vera, she is just so darn cute! 🥰 Reminds me of my granddaughter at that age. But as I am more of a mechanical individual I am EAGERLY waiting to see some of this promised boat build! I hope some information about it comes our way soon. 😉🙂

My first "learner" boat was a 34' Jeanneau Melody with a modified fin keel and a tiller. I enjoyed it very much as it was fairly easy to singlehand and small enough to maneuver in tight spaces. It had the Autohelm 2000 autopilot also and it was so easy to use. Arcticus brings back some fond memories of my earlier days of sailing. It is a joy to watch little Vera frolic on the island and the whole family enjoying themselves together. It's what life was meant to be.

Hi Guys. Hearing about your battle with Vera over wearing her Buoyancy aid reminded me of the trials I had with my eldest boy. When he was Five, maybe a little younger he would wear his Buoyancy Aid properly. I caught him mostly but one time he was stepping off the boat onto the dock and he missed, falling between the boat and the dock. Fortunately I was with him and was able to reach down, grab him by the scruff of the neck and lift him out to safety.....I never had to tell him to wear his Buoyancy Aid again. Lesson learned and I was lucky no harm was done. Keep at Vera. She will believe that she doesn't need it until that one time when she does.

Loved finding out the word for blackberry. In Britain, we also call those 'bramble' - a word that comes from the old-english, and ultimately can be traced back, through the anglo-saxons, to the scandinavian/north german languages. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bramble

The swedish word translates to bear-berry but they are called brombar in danish and old norse. Thats where bramble comes from i guess 🙂

Was in your home marina this week, saw Articos moored up. Remember the Harmony 31 from the 1970's when 31 feet was a big boat, seem to think it turned into the Trintella. Sometimes smaller boats are more fun, less worries!! Will give you a wave next season if we see you, can't miss that doghouse. Good sailing and best of luck with your new house.

Have you tried the scare off the flies trick with a ziplock bag with a few copper pennies and half full of water. Hang in areas where the flies are. Has something to do as a predatory nature to the flies when they see the copper pennies through the bag and water.

It broke my heart when you sold RAN II but I really like the cabin space on Arcticus and she will make a fine replacement until you finish your new boat, as if my opinion really comes into it haha . Watching this video I wondered if Vera's balance seems to be better than her peers because of her living on a boat or not? I was just wondering out loud. I can't wait for the repairs and upgrades. Stay well

We enjoy every episode and we’ve seen them all! Check out Guy Clark’s song “Boats to Build” and I’ve written a song called “Our 4 Knot Yacht”. “ Our four knot yacht, she isn’t very fast. But that just makes our pleasure last.” That’s the first Line of the chorus. All the best.
@myblueocean22 жыл бұрын
Try this in reverse: don't put the tiller all the way but more like 45°. I find this works better for my full keel c. archer. Anything more just causes drag and little steering. For the prop, once its clean you can use fat (or parfin, wax) to keep it in good growth free shape. Too bad we keep missing us on the water ;)

Love your channel! Just wondering why you wear life jackets in Sweden, but I do not recall seeing you wear them in nice weather in the Caribbean. Is it because you don't have netting on the lifelines for Vera, as you did on Ran II, and you're both wearing them to set a good example for Vera? Also, what is on the reel on your port quarter?
